    We could have programs for:
    1) People desperate for money because of homelessness/hunger/drug addictions
    2) People who have psychological problems that make them do weird shit
    3) People who have some sort of social or personality disorder that makes them malicious assholes

But too many of #3 have been shutting down these programs or shipping people suffering from these to Seattle and other big cities

Exactly that, and it complicates 2 and 3 that it's almost impossible to provide long-term care for someone who doesn't want to comply with a given program.

You're missing Incenjuar's point. If you want to be mad about (3), you should be mad about the (3)s who are in power and are making sure that the rest of us stay desperate and hungry.

I am, though? I can be frustrated about more than one thing at a time.

It's also important to keep in mind that a lot of bad life/health situations lead to a lack of impulse control.

People often have a wide variety of really bad impulses which they suppress. If these build up, they have healthy outlets for them.

This impulse suppression breaks down really fast when you're tired, hungry, frustrated, scared, sad, angry, uncomfortable, in pain, and lacking in healthy outlets.

Worth noting generally: at no point in this thread have I advocated for "bootstraps" nonsense. I vote as progressively as is possible, and the amount I give to the local food bank would genuinely surprise a lot of people in this thread, I think.

That doesn't mean I just shrug my shoulders and go "lol late stage capitalism m i rite" when repeatedly targeted by criminals.

I totally understand being frustrated. You're actually specifically experiencing a fraction of the situation that homeless people feel! Lack of security, unable to protect your belongings, and no expectation that things will get better.

It's something Narwhal brought up once or twice that really stuck with me. He was talking about how his homelessness largely stemmed from deeper mental/emotional concerns that weren't being properly handled. There are huge issues with our economic system, but there is also a huge issue with the way we try to ignore any sort of mental/emotional concerns, and treat anyone who fails to effectively sweep it under the rug as people have failed to properly integrate with our pseudo-Protestant society.

Shit, I'm barely hanging on and I have a roof over my head and a secure job (for now).

Add the stress of being on the street and not knowing where my next meal is coming from? Fuck.

Yeah it was just a joke about how that (while extremely common) is not at all a well adjusted way of dealing with it.

Ditto hard drug abuse. People very rarely fall into addiction because someone randomly offered them meth at a party, there are precipitating issues: unmanaged mental health issues, lack of a social support system, aforementioned financial anxiety/terror, etc. Addiction is a less powerful force on its own than we think it is.

Even for their poorly run campaign, I'm surprised that they'd waste money on Trump ads in WA.

You don't even need to go out of the state. I mean...Eastern/Central Washington is still a thing.

The only reason I can think of is that if they're paying a national network to run ads maybe they just wouldn't save any significant amount of money by excluding some states.

But don't matter for a presidential election. I mean as goes king county so goes the state, and I don't think King has suddenly become a Trump + any ad directed anywhere near wash, ore, or idaho is a waste of money and resources.

Another aspect that I was kind of thinking of when I made that post is the networking between people who live on either side of the Cascades. If a person moved out of their Eastern Washington home to live in King or Snohomish county, they'd still have connections (either family or friends) who may still be back in Eastern Washington. Next time the person who moved gets on the phone, they're going to hear about the ad and might take the information seriously.

I've seen it happen with a few classmates I met from my time at Central...and it still disappoints me that they're falling for the scare-tactics/propaganda.

Another thing is that the message in those ads will resonate with the Red-vote folks who're doing what the Blue-vote folks are trying to do. I keep hearing about people in Dem-strongholds planning (or actively) moving to Red states/strongholds to try to turn those areas more blue (or purple). Repubs can do the same (and, from what I've seen, are doing it). Those ads are meant for them to broadcast to their social circles.

But yeah, King isn't going to be flipping red anytime soon...but it could become less blue.

The hardest parts are making sure I fill in my bubbles just right and remembering how I signed my name when I registered.

Shoot, even the ballot drop box is a 5-minute walk out my front door.

Sometimes its a little hard to find a spot to park at the local community college because you have to walk to the actual drop box so one time I had to drive 10 minutes to the other drop box in the middle of the parking lot of the county courthouse.

It really is pleasantly easy to vote in this state.

As an Indiana native and transplant (and I say this, earnestly as a minority.) here, who shortly has a plane flight to central Indiana, northwest out side of Indianapolis, who will be spending two weeks , in the , as "The Division" players label it, the Dark Zone , In the Midwest of the fucking epicenter of Election Dragons Belly (Fuck you Mike Pence! And I apologise, on behalf of my dumbass Home State's idiocy.) election night.

I'm just one of the few, fortunate ex Indiana natives, whom have pretty chill relatives, because In land of "Fox News", being Michigan's boot, and encouraging that State's batshittery, Indiana is the source of this country's derp, bar none!

It's a GODSEND Washington State , and pretty much the West , encourage Mail in, especially with the shit going on with Trump's personal "The Division", going around intimidating with their Taciticool shit like it's fuckin Fallujah here.

And don't worry, I, made sure to take both Flu and Penumonia shots, a month In advance. I wasn't gonna fuck around this year, and the DERP fest of the Midwest is enough for me, to inform, and encourage my employer back in Seattle, "If you want me to take a COVID test, by all means, I'm for it."

And people wonder, "how are you able venture through eastern Washington and Oregon and not be phased?" Because I was born and raised in Indiana. We are trained and ingrained to meld in with that region.

Good news from a professor who specializes in elections.

The Washington State mail ballot return rate is running 3x what it was at this same point in 2016. They're a state that accepts ballots after Election Day if postmarked by Election Day. Seems there will be fewer of those ballots this year https://sos.wa.gov/elections/research/ballot-return-statistics.aspx

The City of Bellevue just issued a weapons ban downtown and declared a civil emergency due to "an imminent threat of injury to persons or property during protests tonight"

There's a protest downtown. I haven't heard about any violence associated with it, though I guess it's possible that some proud boys were talking about heading down or something? It's likely boilerplate language required for the Mayor to actually issue the weapons ban.

Considering murder hornets were involved, I'm guessing the suits consisted of plate mail and kevlar?

EDIT: Boooo, there's no plate mail at all. But at least these beekeeping suits actually cover the whole dang body instead of leaving a bunch of easy ways in for stinging critters to get stuck up close to tender flesh.

There's a tiny home camp underneath Magnolia bridge, the entire multi-mile long hillside along 15th/Elliott is blanketed in tent complexes, drive along towards downtown and you see the camps along Denny by the KOMO HQ and then Denny park. I've a ground floor unit in Magnolia and I've had people trying to get at my bedroom window as early as 11pm. On work days I leave for work around 5am, and I'm frequently driving past guys coming down the hill from the neighborhood with their loot.
