Omigod this is literally Dark Souls Metroid DMC Uncharted Sekiro
I am HERE for all of it
Bonfires? Check
Metroid Prime map? Check.
XY button combos? Check.
Platforming? Check.
Intense combat where parrying and dodging are super important? Check!
It’s going to be fun watching the rhetoric for this take a sharp nosedive once “shiny new Star Wars” wears off.
It’s fine. It’s nowhere near a Souls just because it tweaks some gameplay conventions. The combat is not close at all to the crisp, responsive glory of Sekiro. It’s a Star War. Settle down on these comparisons.

I dunno; the animations for Cal will need some serious work for the inevitable sequel, but for Respawns first attempt at Souls Like combat I think they've done a good job. I think Nioh 2 will be the king of this kind of gameplay for the near future, but for a game set in this world to do these things as well as it does I don't think they need to worry about any backlash. It's just a fun game.

I’ll put my hours played in games in the Soulsborne vein, including Sekrio, Nioh, etc up against anyone’s. I strongly disagree. Opinions, they are fun. Telling people to stop comparing a game to something because you don’t like the comparison seems to be an unfortunately strong reaction.

I eagerly await years worth of Fallen Order hit/hurtbox porn, then.
This game is fine but it is nowhere near that level of polish. It’s not even close. It’s a serviceable third person action game with sticky platforming, better-than-average combat, and a very good license for the setting.

Okay cool thanks for sharing and shitting all over us having fun
Am I the only one who doesn’t really like the dark souls sekiro style combat? It always feels clunky and I hate having to commit to animations as a gameplay feature. I enjoy them ok and I get why people love them, but they are so not my jam.

It's not like that kind of combat. It's not attack-priority. It's much more CAG than Dark Souls. The Dark Souls/Sekiro comparisons come about more in that parrying is important, enemies are very strong, there are bonfire-equivalents that respawn enemies, shortcuts abound in the world, and exploration seems to be important.

No, you're not alone. I enjoy the Souls games for their atmosphere but I've always been surprised by how highly people praise the combat because, like you, I feel like it is very clunky.
Sekiro felt CRISP, on the other hand.

How does the combat compare to Sekiro? I’ve been in the fence with that because I never got into soulslikes. If I like this I’ll probably grab that at some point.

See my post above. It's only like Sekiro in terms of parrying. Otherwise, it's like a light CAG style. You can cancel out of attacks, no animation-priority.

Pretty much exactly what I was hoping for. Mmmm. TWO HOURS TO GO.

I myself would have preferred it be a bit more forgiving on the combat, but I'm willing to give this a try. I had decent fun with god of war, if it's around that level I'll be fine.
Picked it up on Xbox from best buy. Didn't see any pre-order bonus code. Is there a pre-order bonus for physical from best buy that anyone knows? And knows how to get?

I think with the xbox and PS4 versions you have to pay extra for the deluxe edition? At least thats what the gamestop employee and I discerned earlier.

Ah okay. I didn't do that, just assumed there'd be some pre-order doohikey. Oh well.

I wouldn't take my word for it. It was quite confusing and the Gamestop employee didn't seem very confident about it either. The PC version is the only one I know of that definitely get's the PO bonuses in the standard edition.

You guys keep saying "bonfires," and I keep choosing to hear "checkpoints," so if I discover that I turn "Sith" every time I respawn and have to keep farming "holocrons" to keep "force ghosts" from randomly turning up to "murder the fuck out of me", I'm gonna feel pretty silly.
Okay after I got killed by those animals several times I'm turning the difficulty back to normal. Woof that's rough. So far feels very uncharted, lots of fun and I like Cal a lot! Oh, and I'm on an Xbox one x and occasionally getting some framey moments which is a little bit of a bummer, but not enough to cause big issues.
It’s been ages since we got a great single-player Star Wars action game, but Jedi: Fallen Order makes up for a lot of lost time. A strong cast sells a dark story while keeping things fun and loyal to Star Wars lore, and fast, challenging combat mixes with energetic platforming, decent puzzles, and diverse locations to explore for an all-around amazing game.

It's far from my favorite in the genre, but there was nothing for years, then only DS for years, so I liked it well enough. I appreciate the added complexity DS brought to the table, but I still prefer Ninja Gaiden as everything was sharp and fast; because ninjas, but also because it didn't need to be balanced against a spreadsheet of stats and gear configurations.
Oni (or my memory of it) is still probably my favorite CAG. The later missions where you had all of your counters and such unlocked were a pretty optimal blend of tempo, tactical agency, and crowd fighting.
I'm definitely interested in this game, but I think I'm going to wait for a 30-50% discount before picking it up. I like what I'm hearing about the story, but the technical/animation issues give me pause and Brad has gone in hard on games before that did nothing for me.

Has anyone heard a length estimate? I wouldn’t know what to guess with a game like this.
So, uhh, for anyone curious about difficulty, on Jedi Master, this little miniboss ogdo bogdo took me like an hour to beat. Pretty glad I didn’t give grandmaster a shot.

I heard there was some sort of bug boss early on in the game that is less of a difficulty jump and more of a difficulty cliff.

I messed up and didn't pre-order the one that had the purge trooper figure though. They didn't have extras.
