They've enforced a clock in and out tool at our company...it's kinda weird for salaried folk...apparently to track for OT but seems like BS.

Whenever you clock in or out it tries to capture the location from the device you are doing it from

I'm taking a little bit of perverse glee in seeing a ton of email come through and some popups about not being able to connect to things and I'm just able to ignore it all because I'm on VACATION, DAMNIT. Yaay! I need to do this more often.

I haven't had lunch yet because the microwave is in the conference room, which has currently been co-opted for management bullshit that's only tangentially work related from what I overheard before they closed the door an hour and a half ago.

I'm about to start eating this fried rice cold because I have no idea when they'll be done

When they did my final payout [my not manager had to call the corp hotline about if he could write a check that large I feel this is one of the many reasons I got my final check mailed to me] one of the managers in the room made fun of the sick leave I had piled up {only called out twice in my 12 years once because my father died the other I was blind from getting hit in the head and it swelling} I have yet to cash it because I got direct deposit. and I was warned they might put it in that way so I will see later today

Part of me got caught in a loop of sad thoughts knowing I had been there for longer than I was in the corps last night like real sad mortality thoughts

Hang in there man, you made it this far. At least it sounds like you got a decent sum from the sick leave payout.

I'm starting to feel much better after having lost my job; motivation is slowly starting to rebuild once again so I don't feel as listless and worthless as I did the last few days, and there's still plenty of other work around here

Plus I have an amazingly supportive and loving family to help me if I need it, so I'm extraordinarily lucky on that front

But CHRIST is filling out the Unemployment and Masshealth forms a fucking drag

The NM ones are daunting. As looking for a job as required is a pain because riding around the area on my bike is limited due to the heat and poor conditions of the roads/bike paths
I just have a dog and my brother whom harps on the ugly fact where we are

Sweet jeebus yes. When I lost my job several years ago and the subsequent hoops I had to jump through to file for unemployment gave me a healthy perspective for how painful the whole process is. Especially when I ran into the issue that my unemployment benefits were too high to quality for food stamp assistance. I was making too much money on unemployment.

Still wrapping my head around that today, especially considering the unemployment checks I was getting were not enough to actually cover all my bills. Thankfully I had some savings built up, but I was effectively negatively income for about 3 months until I found work again.

Always pisses me off when I hear about folks bitching about how X ethnicity or group just "signs up for free unemployment and never has to work" etc. It's like bitch have you ever applied or been on unemployment??? It fucking sucks! it's not enough to live off of, it just barely keeps you treading water with your nose sticking out to suck a few breaths of precious oxygen before you sink!!!!

No lie, when I quit Wal-mart I got color back in my skin, my back stopped hurting a few weeks later, and I could breath better.

When my wife was fired she lost 10 pounds, had the color thing happen, and started sleeping better

Only one more day of jury duty, and I might be able to get out of it because we aren't actually voting on anything that day.

Also, my fellow-jurors-are-shit-people anecdote of the day: One juror refusing to vote on someone drowning their cat to death because... who cares about cats, I guess? (she actually laughed multiple times while the case was being read)

I'm actually moving from "these are terrible people" to "these are actual dangerous people and I hope I'm never in contact with them again."

Got an email from the NEA (National Education Association) about voting on a poster. Sure, why not.

I of course vote for the most WW2 Soviet looking poster of the options, of which there were several.

Note that if anyone wishes to voice specific complaints about particular steps of the online application process for unemployment that were notably shitty and frustrating I will absolutely be taking that feedback and making it so that our clients should (hopefully) never have to experience that.

I can do that. That's, like, a not-insignificant part of my job now.

I've been on vacation for a week, and today it was like a huge weight abruptly lifted off my shoulders and I could breathe.

We're flying home tomorrow and I'm back at work the day after that.

Two weeks of vacation in a year is not nearly enough. Fuck this country and its backwards labor laws.

It's almost definitely for tracking benefits. It is dumb. But otherwise the company has to lumpsum salaried benefits and they feel this will save them money?

When I applied in NJ a few years ago, it was easy enough. They didn't pay for a bit, the first week wasn't paid, and it wasn't enough money. But the online forms weren't bad. It's weirdly so very state specific.
