BTW, of the current crop of intro decks, Azure Skies (mono-blue fliers) is arguably the best.
Yeah, it's not going to go toe-to-toe with a real deck, but there are worse things in life than a deck based around Cloudkin Seer, Frost Lynx, Spectral Sailor, Winged Words, and Windstorm Drake.
I really wish I could get the new intro decks as they are introduced
Last night I was watching my partner play unranked. She literally signed up for Arena yesterday and was playing unranked with one of the mono-color intro decks (with me coaching her).
She won about 50% of her games. Yeah, she encountered a few people playing serious business decks in unranked, but mostly they were other intro decks, and a few meme/experimental/goofy decks.
Don't new players go into a new player queue for a while?

Yes, you are protected for awhile, then go into a new queue.
I think I will try to combine those cards with the Murderous Rider, Enter the God Eternals, and Ashiok (which doesn't work great with the garg, but a 5/4 flying defender for two still plays in a mill deck). Maybe use a cheaper counter, as well as the new faerie(fae of wishes) that lets me draw up sideboard answers. A bond of insight or two in there and then some general midrange dimir stuff (thought erasure) and I think i'd be pretty happy for casual play.
Edit: I don't usually play wall of lost thoughts, but secretkeeper's option to come out on turn 1 as a blocker might help keep turn 2 spectacle shennanigans in check.
Edit 2: Other new cards i'm looking at, for inclusion: Sir Konrad (lol), Revenge of Ravens (sideboard fae target), Into the Story (bad w/ Ashiok though)

Ah, I was unaware. Thanks!
every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.
WotS Ashiok is what makes mill playable right now, which is counterproductive with Vantress Gargoyle.
Vantress Gargoyle is more of a Modern/Legacy card against graveyard-heavy decks that can be slotted in instead of Rest in Peace or Leyline of the Void.

If you're trying to mill them out why do you care if your gargoyle can't attack? As long as you keep 4 cards in hand to block it seems fine.
AT level 95, entered code, said it was accepted, still level 95..
I think there's a bug where if you're like 95 with some XP it calculates you as something like 95.2 so the code fizzles. Probably best to contact customer service.
i mean the thing is, ashiok and these mill cards are all cards that, on a literal level, mill, but they're also focused on different angles
ashiok is designed specifically to hate on graveyard-utilizing strategies, and gets a little mill so that you can be a little proactive about it rather than needing to save them in your hand for when the cards are in the opponent's graveyard (at which point it may be too late)
meanwhile many of the mill cards in this set are supporting cards like the Gargoyle and Drown in the Loch, cards that are very efficient if the game is late and graveyards are full, but rather poor early when they are not. so you have several cards that mill incidentally and poorly as a method of turning those cards online a little earlier, at the cost of playing slightly less optimal cards like Didn't Say Please (note that Overwhelmed Apprentice is not on this list as that card's actually pushed really hard to work with Garg and DitL).
as a result a lot of them have the problem that they're not really focused on being part of a mill deck, they're just part of regular decks that can take minor advantage of mill effects, but are still trying to win traditionally. which isn't meant to discourage people from building a mill deck to have fun with, of course - just to point out why these tensions and anti-synergies exist

Weird. I was level 98 when I used the code and still got my 5k XP just fine.

It's one of those things where it doesn't really matter enough to do anything since I can hit 100 anyway.
hey i just hit level 100. Turns out it was pretty forgiving once we got this last 5 level code (probably because of the community outlash at the start) but if i can do it while missing a few quests and probably 10-20 weekly wins and playing once every 2-5 days then it doesn't seem like it'll be too bad if they don't overtune or overcharge for the next ones.
If anyone is still trying to figure out value I didn't keep any real stats but I started the set under the gem cost for the pass, earned those gems through 2 drafts, and now at the end of the set plus the gems earned from pass i'm sitting at 5400 gems and I had exactly 1 good draft in this format i just never really figured out, with mostly bad decks and 2-4 win runs.

I should have played more draft as I'm sitting on like 70k gold but I made back my pass gems so I am happy to funnel into the next one, especially now the XP curve seems sorted out.

Depending on your play habits that’s possible, if not very likely. Minimum play (only playing once/week) is slightly worse with the new system — 5250xp or 2.5 packs a week vs. 3 packs a week, ultimately landing on 31.5 packs over 12 weeks vs 36.
However, the 9k XP from promo codes evens that up and the 6k XP from winning one game in each Brawl gives the new system a slight edge.

also what the hell is this sudden influx of monoblack discard decks

I can't believe I'm actually having fun in Ranked.
Even when I lose, it's usually against a deck that's just fun to play against and see what it does instead of some insufferable Teferi "You don't get to do anything" deck. But I'm still in Bronze, so maybe that'll change later.

I can't remember if it was here or in SE++ wondering about when we get the new starter decks, but here you go
100% chance the community will complain about this. 70% chance WotC will follow their usual MO and change it to everyone getting the full decks. Which they should.

I don't get this, we're not missing out on any cards compared to getting the deck via the new player experience. Just because we've been playing longer we should get a better deal than a new player?

I'm not like super upset or anything, I just wish that had been clear as I was specifically not finishing any sets of shocklands because of this.
Plus just, of course I'm gonna be sad about not getting free shocklands. Not mad or anything but.. dang. Sucks!

Yes, you are protected for awhile, then go into a new queue.
Is it viable? Probably not!
Am I gonna try it anyway? You bet your ass!

thud's back!
Also FiveBonusLevels gives you exactly that if you need them. Which I don't (hit 98 last night) but hey.

Cube draft - that explains Griselbrand, Jin-Gitaxis and other big splashy creatures showing up in Momir.

are people going to combine Folio with Narset to just draw a shitload of cards every turn

Now that you say this pretty sure it did for me since I didn't get much when I punched it in.

I'm not going to get the same amount of weekly packs as I would have before the XP track I think.
However, the 9k XP from promo codes evens that up and the 6k XP from winning one game in each Brawl gives the new system a slight edge.
Brawl is a new format similar to commander.
Weird I had that experience yesterday too.

This is my stance as well. Earlier, clearer communication would have been nice, but I'm just going to shrug and take what I get.
