It seems like there's an awful lot of thought put into working out accurate time lines in comic books considering how many time altering mcguffins and characters are in play in both DC and Marvel settings.
Because comic fans are nerds.
(And comic creators are, increasingly to almost exclusively, drawn from this same pool.)

I was completely satisfied with Al Ewing's explanation from Ultimates #5
"And why do certain events have this peculiar gravity?"

"I mean, World War II doesn't have it, but Reed Richards defeating a Skrull invasion by showing them some pictures he's cut out of comic books does? How does that work?"

Hot take: get rid of the shared universe. Every book takes place in its own timeline.

Nope, hate it.
The cohesive shared universe that interacts with eachother and have been going on for the better part of a century are a huge part of the appeal of comics for me, as well as a lot of readers.
There's nothing else out there like it.

Hot take: anchor your comic book universe to a specific year for its beginning and than let your characters age in real time.
Also, let them pass on their titles and create proper legacies.

I definitely wish comics would treat continuity more like Tokusatsu does, IE, there is a shared universe and continuity when we want there to be one and when its a problem there isn't
I like the continuity but I hate people freaking out and trying to peice together where X character was at X time and editors boxes explaining that this character is over in this book this month, etc
when you wanna have a crossover just do it, its fine
BC has been reporting that DC has a big publishing initiative planned for 2020 titled 5G for months. They claimed to not have much more info than the internal title, but repeated confirmations it was a real thing and going to be pretty big.
At NYCC DC revealed there have been 4 generations of DC heroes and periods in the timeline. Apparently, 5G stands for the 5th Generation and per BC they are looking to do a complete shake-up of all of their major heroes and put new people in the mantle and the existing characters like Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent either retiring or otherwise being taken off the board.
They claim that Luke Fox will be Batman and Jonathan Kent will return to the present after spending years with the Legion in the future and take over as Superman.
With Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern and potentially more slated for replacement as well.
BC has had pretty damn accurate leaks with DC for around a year or two now so it seems like this might be legit

That was the original pitch of Marvel in general and is the reason why Peter quickly left high school and the Richards had kids that grew into little kids, then Marvel realized they were selling gangbusters and wanted to keep the status quo.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
He is a very good choice and we are both very smart
shit i missed this convo!
My choice is Colin Ferguson, my movie pitch is a reporter interviewing a billionair philathopist played by Ed Quinn.
The reporter is performing the interviews at the billionaires corporate building and she is trying to gather some dirt on the guy because he is too clean.
in between interview days she keeps running across a raving homeless man (Colin Feguson) who keeps feeding her crazy ideas about who Quinns charector really is.
Eventually you get to the reveal (reporter is unnamed until the reveal) that report is Lois Lane, and the billionair (through flashbacks) reveals his real name is Vandal Savage and he had been acquiring wealth and technology to poise himself as the shadow ruler of the world.

multiversal resonant anchoring, obviously.
Events that happen in nearly every version of the world are fixed in time, while events unique to one particular universe or a very small number of universes can slide as they're not being tied down by other realities versions of the same event.
Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo did an interview with Newsarama that is the usual vague teases of future stuff but when viewed through the lens if what BC says is on the horizon, this stands out as pretty intriguing:
So yeah, they're trusting us with some really fun stuff coming up. I'm very big DC fan, very big Batman fan, Superman, Wonder Woman... So I hope fans know that as crazy as we go, like with Metal or whatever, I'm never out to do something that's salacious or just shock value, trying to hurt the characters in some way. I would never do that. It's really about trying to do something you haven't seen before, but speaks to the core of why they matter right now.
You have to change stories. They're up against things that are important for this moment, for our kids, for us. That means sometimes challenging the readers, but always staying true to more of the characters. So yeah, we have some crazy, some super crazy stuff coming soon. We'll probably be announcing it in the beginning of the new year.
i think the BC story is pretty reasonable and likely, with the obvious caveat that i don't predict anything to necessarily last unless focus testing shows it does bonkers good

Oh yeah, I think the most likely scenario is it sticks around for a year or two and then the old guard gradually gets slotted back in, barring any huge breakaway hits or easy synergy wins like making new Aquaman pacific islander.

This is just All New, All Different Marvel again. Are people gonna freak out in the same negative ways? It didn't seem to help sales of most of those books.
The Luke Fox thing is... uh huh. Nothing in recent history even close to justifies it. His takeover of Batwing immediately killed off that book. So yeah, give him the franchise tag, why not...
Gotham City Monsters continues to be a rad story and I like the Red Phantom a lot
The Batman's Grave got off to a great start, Ellis and Hitch are both in top form and it is the most Detective a Batman book has felt since...probably Black Mirror?
Event Leviathan is wrapping up and while the ending is logical and decently satisfying, it isn't as exciting as I hoped
Leviathan seems to be a previous Manhunter. My guess would be Mark Shaw?
The highlight for me was Superman which was an all Jon Kent issue featuring his reunion with Damian and it was all very cute and fun
Then they go hero their way through Gotham and talk about what Jon went through and debate him joining the Legion.
I liked Kid Jon a fair bit but Bendis is making me really like him as a proper young adult lead character
Set photos from The Suicide Squad. They are going Full Comic Book with this and I love it
Fillion is apparently playing

Sorry this take was way too mean and cynical. I could post my reasons but those would just be excuses.
