The Bechdel gag had me fucking dying. I think this is probably the hardest I've ever laughed at this show.
There was no deeper meaning or relevance to this episode, but it was a constant stream of really funny, really clever jokes, so I'm cool with it.
Same here.
I was almost in tears. I can't remember the last thing that had me laughing so hard. Chalke and Grammer totally nailed the speech pattern that Roiland uses for those kinds of bits.
But it delves so thoroughly into being its own commentary that it's impossible for me, as a passive observer, to join in that conversation without feeling like I'm being mocked by it, its fans, or even its critics. I'm open to the idea that this might be a good thing. Maybe disarming any probing analysis is what has made it so appealing. I'm forced to just sit back and let it pass through me.
Still, I have to acknowledge that there is this nagging thought in the back of my mind that this style is just a mechanism for producing shallow novelty. If the show is only commentary on itself, it doesn't have to concern itself with actually being about anything. It continually produces a false sense of insight and cleverness with a seemingly endless nesting of self-references.
Ok, now that I've expressed that publicly, I'm just going to commit to being in love with this show guilt-free.

My only complaint is that you can't actually buy the train.

I love the food commercials, but its so weird they're even allowed to happen.
"Buy Carl's Jr. burgers! They'll rob you!"
"Buy Wendy's Food! It'll beat you up in a subway station!"
It works though, I really want a Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit.
I remember when Jack in the box got a ton of people sick, and the ad campaign to revitalize was a mascot that harassed people, broke into their house, and force fed them their product.

Speculation:
I think I've realized that our Morty has actually
been replaced by Evil Morty. How else did he get a big train set, recently, from the Citadel? They haven't been there on-screen in ages. It's probably just "fuck canon" but maybe it's the slightest of teases to set something up down the line.
I thought about The Simpsons, but I really don't remember them being everywhere in a short time. For the longest time it was just Butterfinger. Edit: I had completely forgotten about that hotel thing.
Just in the past 18 months we've gotten Carl's Jr., Wendy's, Pringles and AT&T.
The Simpsons didn't need to cross promote, they were doing Star Wars levels of merch at one point. They had a Michael Jackson song and you could find a Bart Simpson T-Shirt in even the dodgy markets in Spain.

This episode is an example of how the show explicitly doesn't want to do any of that kind of stuff and seems to find it repulsive

Which I dunno, I think is kind of a weird thing to do. I'm not against it if they hate doing it. At the same time, they're the ones who did it and set the bar. They didn't have to, in the middle of an episode full of nonsensical improved skits, go and specifically reference the emotional ending of a previous episode. But they did, and everybody agreed that it was fucking amazing that they did so.

When the "marketability", "relatability" and "story potential" meters all topped out and we got a huge showdown of all the ricks in the citadel, a big crowd of meeseeks, the male gazorpeans, and running it all, evil Morty.
I clapped. I clapped when I saw the evil morty.

I am pretty sure that capitalist rick's speech about how buying and consuming merchandise is your only purpose in life was a very large middle finger at network execs

“Buy Pringle’s! Reality is a lie!”
They have little pink bows!
Wait, does it? Right when the episode aired it was a dead page.
EDIT: Huh, yup. Guess they fixed it.

Is that Rickety Cricket?
(Rick also pops up briefly in an AT&T ad.)
Apart from the Simpsons?
Or the action figures.
Simpsons did it.

What's the deal with the train? A train of thought?
