Children of Men killed a movie night once, it started quite chipper but by the end everyone was grim and silent and the unanimous sentiment was "I feel weird" and everyone left to be alone

Most of my favorite movies land on roughly this exact emotional beat.

I like a movie to leave me feeling uneasy, a bit empty, emotionally drained, and unsure of my place in the world.

    Basically... Election night.

Nothing kills me. I'm immune to 179 different types of poison. I know because I ingested them all at once when I was deep undercover in an underground poison-ingesting crime ring.

I would gladly watch a movie that was just Jason Statham's character from Spy telling improbable stories about his career into a camera for 90 minutes.

I think it'd need to have some kind of fun thing going on in the background?

Like, it's a movie about a dude telling stories backstage during the filming of an episode of The Muppet Show

    What's everybody's best-ever movie marathon

Mine was Universal Sunday, wherein we ran the full series of Universal Soldier movies. From a fun 80's Terminator knock-off, to one of the most comically-bad low budget action flicks I've ever seen, to a "wait, is this one... okay?" shot-in-Eastern-Europe straight-to-DVD piece of dadbait, capping off with a legitimately great action movie

A real roller coaster. Got pretty drunk, got a little high, laughed so hard during Universal Soldier 2 that I wept, was so moved in Universal Soldier 4 that I cried.

The night we screened all three In The Name of the King movies is both hard to forget and even harder to remember

Ray Liotta was an evil wizard, Dolph Lundgren played a walking PSA about chemical warfare, they left a dragon flying around Budapest

All attractive female characters are plot devices, but that's depressingly common on all bad movie nights

A friend and I had one really weird Saturday where we alternated National Treasure movies with Ghost Rider movies. We made it through all 4 and had a pretty good time, but that was a hell of a journey.

We did five Resident Evil movies in a night in anticipation of the sixth.

Shots of Midori and Campari (layered in order to recover full health) were the signature drink, which let me tell you, not a good idea.

The Back to the Future trilogy, on a weekend.
I kept track of the departure and arrival times, and worked out that Marty McFly experiences 14 subjective days in the course of 1 day, 9.5 hours by the clock in 1985.
(And a very exciting two weeks it was, too.)

Probably the best(?) was when I did the extended editions of all three LotR movies on my laptop while lying in bed all day long.

Most of the marathons I can remember were like "Watch an MCU movie or 3 episodes of MCU shows per day for a month", or watching a Fast and Furious movie once a day, rather than all at once. I did most of the Toho Kaiju films this way and had an absolute gas.

My friends and I did all of the kevin smith movies (Except Dogma, which we already watched as a group before) Which, at the time, was just Clerks, Mallrats and Chasing Amy, but I don't recall anything particularly noteworthy about that marathon.

One of my friends maintains it is “the most authentically British action movie ever” based on the car chase scene which is mostly Clive Owen trying to get the car started by pushing it in bare feet through the mud.
    Hard to argue.

I mean, any combo of Friday the 13ths makes for a good marathon. If I was doing 3 of them again, I'd likely run 2, 4, and 6.

For me best marathon was "Trilogy Tuesday" way back in 2003. It was Fellowship and Two Towers followed by a showing of Return of the King a full day before it's opening. The AMC theater it was at bussed in like 200 pizzas in 2 waves for everybody and I spent like 4 hours before it started outside in the freezing cold with other nerds playing LotR Trivial Pursuit and drinking spiked hot chocolate.

Holy shit, was that really 17 years ago?!
