oooh I could take this time to clean up our laptop. that would be useful.
gonna get a new desktop after the official wedding which will probably be postponed now. it's a decade old now! still going strong!
my work laptop, at this very moment, has been locked up for two hours frantically processing some guy moving tens of thousands of tiny xml files from a onedrive project

My colleague in Shanghai is saying that everything is back to normal now except for Hubei province.
My gut feeling is also that it is turning around now, this is based mostly on how sweet this WFH week was and that it can't last.

I bought Outer Wilds and started it last night. I don’t actually know what I expected as I didn’t know much about the game other than that it was in space and I like space and it wasn’t Outer Worlds which I don’t think I’m up for playing right now.
It’s neat except I managed to end up on the other side of the solar system from my spaceship somehow with no way to get to it.
But i guess that’s ok since you can just die? I think I’m going to like this game.

I read a report from Beijing just yesterday where live was still very stymied.
You need papers for every bit of travel, and can only commute or go to commercial districts.
All travel is logged.
Restaurants are max 2 people a table 6ft between tables.
Speakers everywhere telling people to keep distance and not spit on the ground (Something older Chinese do a lot...)
So now that everyone's working from home Dream spends all day on phone meetings in our kitchen so I get to catch bits and pieces of MEP engineering meetings in the background. So I only barely understand what they're ever talking about. Right now though, they're talking about coordinating shafts, and it sure made me giggle.

I've gained like 5 lbs in the past week because it turns out my consumption increases linearly with the amount of food I have in my pantry
I started a diet a month ago. The good news is I’m down ten pounds. The bad news is I’m always fucking hungry and all this stored food is right goddamn there

I'm having a Netflix reaction to having more food than usual at home.

Are you calling my colleague a liar?
I am just trying to say that if China is 'rebooting' it certainly isn't doing it evenly.
Apparently they see local risks.
And with good measure, because even if they have contained their own outbreak (mostly, they are still trickling cases) now the entire world is infected so they can't really open travel.

Google how do I make my company stop doing a capitalism and close during a pandemic?
I am normally terrible at not overreacting to things but I'm actually doing pretty well. Shuffling memes between forums, discord and facebook is helping. It's not meme theft it's arbitrage.
Outer Wilds is very good and occasionally frustrating as you mess up a thing and have to go into another cycle to try again.
When I learned how the death mechanic works, this became my greatest fear.
I booted up Outer Wilds again last nite for the first time in a while because of this thread and I forgot how if you slip up just the tiniest bit you might go flying off into space and die horribly, and so I did indeed slip up and die horribly
BUT the nice thing is that once you restart you can immediately go straight towards your objective and just speedrun straight into where you were before. I got to the point where I was just crash-landing onto planets and scurrying about finding/doing shit without much worry about getting out alive
I just wish you could save a custom marker on a specific location on a planet somehow

On that note though it’ll be “interesting” to see what freedom-infringing measures accidentally stick around in various countries.

I was thinking that too but then in addition to takeout I'm also just munching on cereal or pb&js or gnawing on a stick of pepperoni
I'm going to start putting meal times on my calendar or something
Curse our agricultural revolution!!! I could've been thin...
yeah hah we got cereal and pb and js too.
my bagel place is still open so I'm still going every morning, keeping a distance. I have to go to the clinic anyway and we do it on the way home every day. now that we won't have to do that maybe we'll change it up but idk. it's a nice ritual and doesn't expose me to anyone (we can comfortably keep a distance, I wash and sanitize all the time anyway_)

If I'm going full darkest timeline I think we get out of this with checkpoints being a far more common sight. Get ready to get asked "papers please" quite a bit more. Gotta have record of your zone being clean and a recent covid test in order to travel between zones with zones getting locked down when an outbreak occurs. Yet again that's just the dark cyberpunk nightmare future. Cause really, checkpoints is what our existing cyberpunk reality has been missing.
