Demonic Tutor is better overall but Vampiric Tutor is better for decks that just need one specific card to win the game. I wouldn't necessarily expect Vampiric Tutor to see play if it was legal in Modern, for example, but it's busted in Legacy and Vintage.
Wait since when is Vamp Tutor banned in Legacy?

Uhhh... 1999.
This invokes big time Mandela Effect in me.
Time Mandela was also printed as Time Walk in this dimension

Fun fact, the one pack of visions that I bought when I was twelve had a vampiric tutor.

If that had been me I would have been like “bad card, I don’t wanna lose life”
I never liked any of the Mirage block tutors because it costs you a draw and doesn't give you the card right away. I was on Team Merchant Scroll.

I may have cast Enlightened Tutor into Scroll Rack or Oath of Druids more than any other interaction in Magic. My playgroup hated that deck. Spike Weaver was my only preboard target and I just kept recycling Armageddons until they drew a natural 60.

I used to play a deck back then that would use Enlightened Tutor in a deck with some CoPs (I think black, red and green? whatever were most dangerous in the meta at the time) and other enchantments that could just utterly screw certain decks by messing with their lands or having big negative effects against a certain color, along with Sleight of Mind and Magical Hack so that those enchantments could screw anything I wanted instead. A bunch of counterspells. Mystical Tutor to grab a Sleight or Hack or counter as needed. I honestly don't even remember what my win condition was, but it was probably just a single creature in an awful control deck. The only deck my friends or folks at the shop hated playing against more was my land destruction.

Or maybe you played Magical Hack with Karma as your win condition. Lord knows I did that.

Well it does do things, I do want a sac outlet, so it can do double duty. It's probably not worth tilting my mana curve up though, and just kind of subbing out two good cards for meh cards.
Also, why Beseech over Diabolic Tutor? In mono black I see Beseech can be one cheaper, but Diabolic seems easier to cast in Orzhov.
Well, I mean, how many tutors do you want to run? Demonic Tutor is the gold standard, and there are people that don't hate the card disadvantage of Vampiric Tutor.
I'd say one-ish.

I'd recommend shelling out for a Demonic Tutor. The card is extremely unlikely to lose value, and is the cream of the crop for tutors. In any deck with creature recursion, I'm also a huge fan of Rune-scarred Demon.

In my early magic days, stuff like dragon whelp and shivan dragons were insanely valuable, you could basically get an entire deck from someone for a shivan.
This changed once someone informed our playgroup that the pumps on shivan and whelp went away at the end of the turn.

I'm thinking about the one that sacrifices a creature and does the same thing. It's cheaper dollar wise and the downside is an upside in Teysa.

i traded a shivan dragon for a scaled wurm, because the scaled wurm is bigger, and in a better color (green).

yeah the misprint Serendib was in Revised, which got printed a lot. I had a set of them but I don't remember what deck I shoehorned them into. I certainly didn't have like... a blue aggro deck or anything.
One time in band class the box carrying my cards fell out of my pocket and they scattered on the floor. The teacher was like hey are these yours, and I was too embarrassed to say yes so I just told him I had no idea who's those were and left them there as the bell rang.
This would have been around '97
I comfort myself by reminding myself I was too stupid of a kid to actually have any good cards.
New Secret Lair up for sale right now? I don't think there was any preview of this drop. It's slime themed, and has some very Adventure-timey art from Wizard of Barge. The cards are non-foil and the cost is $29.99:

Yeah Frozen Shade was one of the "best" cards in Revised if you didn't know the effect was until end of turn.
templating bad
it was actually still one of the best creatures even if you knew

Frozen Shade was the original IIRC, and like the dragons it didn't say that the pump expired at the end of turn (until 4th Edition), so it effectively had "B: put a +1/+1 counter on Frozen Shade."
Yeah my first real competitive "deck" when my group of friends had nothing but Revised, Dark and Legends was like, 4 Rituals, 4 Hypnotic Spectres, 3 Mind Twists, 2 Sol Rings, 2 Frozen Shades, 3 Terrors, 2 Erg Raiders, 3 Black Knights, a Howl from Beyond and 16 swamps.
I know for a while there was a Jandor's Ring in there but I lost it to ante.

Arena says Core Set Mastery expires in 30 days. So we have a date for Zendikar Rising.

My friends all said I was nuts for not running Sengir Vampire, the best black creature, as I killed them or robber their hand of vital nutrients before they ever got to 3 mana.
A later incarnation of that deck ran 4 Hymn to Tourachs and 4 Ghazban Ogress.

Especially if you're the blink deck. Aminatou - 1 on talisman returns it to me with 3 counters every time.

I am the kid who traded wrath of God for a fucking Serra angel
The only reason I didn’t trade it for a junk rate is because I misread it.

Was is the misprint serendib? That's way more than a Bayou now
Edit: nm seems like serendib was much more common than the similar hurricane misprint.

I ended up trading it away for a playset of Mind's Desire and some other storm cards that are collectively worth one or two bucks now.

Another new Secret Lair coming August 26th. Basically dogs on non-dog cards. $29.99 for non-foil, $39.99 for foil.
They confirmed the dog on rest in peace is indeed still alive and just resting.
