have you ever gone out and bought a game after you read everything about and you got all excited only to play it and realize it wasnt worth your money?
mine would have to be spiderman 3, i missed the PA strip on the subject and bought it. only to realize that the controls are awful, it looked horrible, and it was just a huge piece of crap.
feel free to share your own game horror stories.

this thread is bound to start some arguments. as really its boiling down to personal opinion.

I loved the first game, read the reviews for this one, they weren't too high. I thought they just didn't "get" Wario Ware, but it was my most disappointing purchase I've made since "RPG Maker" for the Playstation.
Wario Ware's games just didn't feel as frantic, fast, or well timed as the first, and the extras weren't nearly as cool as Dr. Wario, or Pyoro 1 and 2, or Paper Airplane, or Jump Rope, or Skateboard.
RPG Maker was ridiculous, every sprite you made took up one save slot, I love making sprites, I can't save anything else! Very lame.
What a piece of shit.

I'll always be one of those that thought Advent Rising was amazing. Framerate aside, the game was a fucking blast. No game made you feel like the badass Advent Rising made you into.
For my part, I'll throw in Vanguard. The diplomacy game is great, but the rest is rubbish.
Oh man, I completely forgot about that game.
Unreal 1 pretty much lived up to its name, it was amazing, one of the most engrossing shooters ever. I have no clue what the fuck they were on when they made the sequel.
I was so excited about that game, and I was just coming off of a long UT2k3-induced high. I wish I had read more reviews, read more opinions, watched more videos, etc etc before buying it.
Blech.

nth for KOTOR2. I still liked the game, at some level, but that ending was useless. They turned a 30 minute unsatisfying ending cinematic into a half dozen lines of even less satisfying dialog with the main villain.
Not to mention that the higher level cap basically broke the game. By the end I was just running around spamming Force Wave and annihilating everything, and I was a weapons master, not a consular.
It's premise is pretty good...organic spaceships that you add weapons and all to by genetic engineering and mutation....the ships look pretty cool, but the mutations and all are pretty straightforeward and standard, i.e.: the same for all ships in appearance..just location is different according to the ship model. I'll try and play it more later and let you all know...cause I bought it under the thought that: "Hey I bought Freespace 1 of a Toys 'R Us shelf and it ended up being a gem and led me straight into FS2...maybe this will be similar."
EDIT for Kotor II: It was incomplete and the ending annoyed me too....but it was still a decent game and lived up to (for the most part) the Kotor name IMO.
Fable, FF8, Star Wars Galaxies, Neverwinter Nights, UFO: Aftershock, HoM&M4...
The list goes on and on and on...
Let 'em eat fucking pineapples!
Man, as soon as I saw the screenshots, and saw that it had worse graphics than BG II, knew something was up.
I'll also put in another vote for KotORII. Man that game is a near travesty compared to the first game.
And then Kotaku says it's got a game-breaking bug in it, so I have to wait until they release the fixed carts before I can even resell the game.
I don't understand how people can say good things about a game that lets you get stuck inside multiple walls/rocks/holes if you decide to explore, freezes and crashes every 15min, and randomly decides to erase you save a few times just for that extra kick to the pants.
i second fable. Fable was supposed to be this gigantic rpg world where everything you do effects everything. it turned out you could give people the finger and yell to be more evil....its like....old man simulator...

It does surpass its predecesor by reaching the realm of mediocrity, though.
I've played through the game 6 times now. It has bugs. It has a bad framerate, particularly in the first hour (once you stop using guns, the framerate gets a lot better, but is still bad). But it was still more fun than most games these days.
I'll admit that after playing through 6 times, which is about 50 hours of gameplay on this one, that I never once got stuck inside a wall/rock/hole, it never crashed or froze, and it never erased my save. I do know that my view would get stuck on occasion, which was linked to using Lift on an environment object. Since Lift was the most boring of all the powers, I never used it anyway, but that issue was there.
In the end, the game was just fun. No other game let me jump on an alien's back, break his neck, then ride his carcass to the ground in slow-motion while I shot his two buddies in the face. That is what the game is all about... pure badass at your control.
U2XMP though, best multiplayer EVER.
Its all opinion. 2 of the games listed here, FF8 and Black and White, are two of my favourite games ever.
What if you are just the exception?
That game blew out the ass. I had such high hopes for it too.
if you were a PSX owner back int he day, you remember the built up and massive let down that was this game.
You don't get "greatest hits" releases for games people don't like.
