also lol good lord your managers are such whiny babies

    re quitting

The new job starts in 13 days. I thought it over and decided I was willing to give up to one week’s notice. That way I have time to arrange my office setup to my liking, and I have time to start some positive habits around sleep and diet and etc before I begin working from home. My plan was to work those shifts, curious about the experience of working a low stakes week where I could leave at any time if unhappy.

So I brought two letters of resignation: one effective in a week, one effective immediately. I barely even got a sentence out about having received an offer when the assistant store manager got shitty, basically accusing me of doing my big vacation as the beginning of my quitting- ‘so why didn’t you put in your notice before vacation if you were planning to run out on us’

At that point I took both letters out of my pocket, made a show of glancing back and forth between them, and said ‘if that’s how you feel, I’ll be giving you this one’ and handed him the effective immediately letter. Walked away before he even read it.

Chu did you tell them you had a leaving present for them and dig around in your pocket as if to get it and then just pull out your hand to flip them the bird and say here it is fucko and then go YEEEAAAHHHHHH right in their face?

Because if you didn’t you should schedule another meeting where you can do this.

I want to be clear that I hadn’t even gotten to what notice I could provide before he cut me off. I’d just said hey, so at the tail end of my vacation I accepted an offer from a job I’ve been purs-

And he cut me off to say what he did. For all he knew, I was about to offer two weeks. In reality, I was about to offer one week. But now he gets nothing. Fuck him. He’s salary so I hope he needs to work extra to cover my sudden absence.

it is not surprising when bad managers are also bad at accepting you pursuing another opportunity but they just put themselves in a bind by being shitty to you about it so

not your circus anymore. go take a nap, you earned it

Holy crap! We too have a lot of folks scheduling their retirement before we're required to go back in the office in Jan.

Good thing is that hopefully there are some folks who would want that job security and get hired on quick. Trainings gonna be a bitch though.

This was always on the horizon as boomers hit their mid 60s we were going to have a lot of retirements, the pandemic likely accelerated it from a 5 year period to a 2 year period.

Chu if this is too much I apologize in advance and you don't have to answer, but what is the first non debt/medical/dental thing you are most excited about buying

like first fun thing or one you most feel like sharing

    The crucial things:

    -teeth
-car (I’d like to pay it off early as it’s my highest interest debt. Once I pay off my car, my student loans are my only debt remaining.)
-I’d like to restore regular visits with my PCP for adderall and also a talk therapist and maybe a psychiatrist to try SSRIs again?

    In terms of fun stuff:

-I want to get a real desk setup instead of just two monitors side by side on an IKEA table. Maybe a nice standing desk (a motorized one so I can sit when I want to, to ease myself in). Maybe a dual monitor stand or a KVM switch or something. But also I get a 100 dollars per month stipend to improve my home office so I could just wait a bit and do this without touching salary money.
-some travel. I haven’t seen my Boston or New York friends in a long while.
    -maybe a manicure/pedicure??
-I want to up my charitable giving a good bit, more money to veteran suicide prevention, funding resources for abused women etc.

Just got a call from the hospital

Stepdad is doing fine, his appendix had ruptured so they took it out. They’re keeping him until tomorrow.

I forgot they could do things like an appendectomy there, it’s just a little community hospital and normally for anything more than a few stitches we go in to Spokane.

Well if you're lucky you have it removed before the actual rupture

The problem is it often just feels like a really bad (like really bad) stomach ache until it's at the bursting point.

Also you could be like me and have it removed without insurance so it costs over $10k instead of the $2.5k the hospital would have gotten from insurance because our medical/insurance system is completely fucked up and has been for decades!

he's living normally. he just has to go see a NETs specialist out of state about every month and go to the local cancer center for labwork and treatments a few times a month
all the little old ladies that work at the school donate leave to him so he still gets paid.
he had surgery a few years ago and like the only doctor thats a super expert in his particular type worked with the surgeon team and they removed like dozens of small tumors anywhere near vital organs and basically doubled his life expectancy
