Question for you all though: if after your first guess there are quite a few easy words within reach, do you take the risk and guess one hoping for success on your 2nd attempt (like I did here), or do you play more conservatively, trying to choose a word that further narrows the still-large solution space, to reduce the likelihood you'll blow out to 4 or 5 guesses?

Many times I could have guaranteed it in 3 or 4 with a consonant-eliminating guess that has no chance of being the answer, but if it's a 1 in 3 or 50/50 I'll just go for the guesses.
On a semi-related note, I've been playing the Word Master Wordle clone, which has a dictionary of valid potential answers about 4 to 5x the size of Wordle's. This changes the strategy pretty substantially. The slightly more obscure dictionary and addition of plurals ups the difficulty notably, and if you approach it with Wordle hard mode rules you'll find yourself in situations where you literally have to get lucky to escape with your streak intact.
I lost pretty lengthy streaks to LULLS, DUFFS. Got lazy and lost a 119 streak to FOURS, after having guessed HOURS/POURS/YOURS/SOURS (100% preventable). My usual opener is RATES, because with so many ES / ER / ED endings on the table you need to do know as soon as possible if you're in one of those situations. (Just think for a second how many options something like _ Vowel _ E S has.)
Most bullshit word? RADII. It threw me NANNY on #199, which was fucking terrifying. Triple same consonants are utter horseshit and take me to 5 or 6 every single time, just a total nightmare.
