TBH just like Vermintide I'm coming to realize the number one thing that loses you matches is keeping 100% stamina.
You can dodge with your guns and utility out.
You can dodge actual bullets from the traitor guards and scum gunners.
There's basically zero reason to ever be at maximum stamina at any point. Shove more, dodge more, parry more.
Which is annoying, because the Psykanium lady specifically says that you can't dodge with your ranged weapon out, so clearly that was changed at some point but they never updated the voice line. There's a number of things like that, like a lot of the Penances sound downright impossible, i.e, "As a Skullbreaker, knock over 100 enemies in a single bull charge on Malice or higher". But they're just incorrectly worded; its not "in a single bull charge" because I'm now sitting at 16/100 for that penance, but I've definitely knocked down more than 16 so who knows what the actual criteria is for it to count...
*edit* Looks like something went wrong with the patch that was supposed to go live today, so they're delaying it till tomorrow. In the meantime I seem to be completely unable to launch the game at all, so something's fucky.
*edit2* Apparently there's currently a blizzard in Stockholm, where Fatshark's offices are based, so part of the issue may be that their office is buried in snow.

As I'm sure that some of you have noticed, fatshark is REALLY bad at explaining gameplay mechanics. I mean REAAAAAAAAALY BAD at it.
Dodges in tides games don't provide i-frames. You need to physically dodge the attack. However in vermintide, the act of dodging will disrupt an opponent's ability to track you. Let's say that you're staring a Mauler in the face and he's about to swing his axe at you in a giant overhead swing. If you side-dodge, then the game will provide a relatively generous window where the opponent won't attempt to adjust their aim to hit your new position. This is why back-dodging is often more hazardous than side-dodging. When you dodge backwards, the enemy doesn't need to adjust their aim. It's simply a question of whether or not you're still in range of the attack. But with side-doding, then you throw the enemy's aim off and can cause the attack to miss while staying close enough to maintain your own offense.
In Darktide, ranged weapons are supposed to have a lesser version of the dodge. You can still dodge, but the act of dodging won't inhibit the opponent's aim. So if you dodge away from the enemy and physically get out of range of the attack, then you'll be safe. But if you just side dodge around the opponent while your gun is out, then they're supposed to keep tracking you and hit you so long as you stay within range.
At least that's how things were supposed to work. This change wasn't well received and I both haven't tested to verify that it indeed does work this way in the current build, and I haven't kept up with word from Fatshark regarding whether or not they'll revert this change from Vermintide.
Got a lightning staff to try out.. Not overly impressed TBH. Cool looking but not very strong from what I have seen.
Lightning staff has by far been my favorite so far. In my experience it isn't the best at quickly killing things, but I feel like it has some godlike crowd control potential. Squad of traitor guard are dug in behind some sandbags? Zap the first guy who pokes his head out of cover, and his entire squad gets shocked and stand up to be torn apart by your teammates (or another cast or two of lightning). Ragers are sprinting at some teammate? Shock them. I think it interrupts the plague hounds too, but it's hard to tell with those things. It's not very lethal but it's great to shut down threats in an eyeblink so that they can be safely dealt with. At least on difficulty 3. I'm unsure how things will scale beyond that.
Personally I just hope there isn't a wipe between here and there if only because I'd like to not have my work today invalidated. Its something I know can happen but I don't want it to happen.
My impression on whether or not they'll wipe is that they're just keeping their finger on the button in the event that someone completely breaks their leveling system by finding an infinite money exploit or something.
Made it to level 30 after being really kind of sour on the game in the early going. By the end, this is a better game than Vermintide. . .or will be. One, the aesthetic is just more pleasing to me. I like the weird medieval (with the "Church-Ship" and books and weird waxy-penants) mixed with modern (everything else) vibe, and also the bleakness of the entire setting (although I'm glad the characters don't see the world as bleak, well some do, but the "good life" seems to be dying in service of the Emperor).
Two, the level design and combat options are really a lot better than VT2. The snipers in this game fucking suck, and Fatshark needs to Google "range of a shotgun" - but overall, I like the way this game does the beat to beat combat more so than in VT; it definitely feels like an iteration - even if slightly. Hopefully the systems they've been holding back (there's way too many nameless NPC's manning detailed kiosks in the game for them not to serve a purpose; same with this crafting dude in the back of the ship) further build out on this, including an endgame grind.
. . .one negative is that lack of class variety at launch. Just really blows it is going to take an entire year for all the classes to get another sub-class.
Fucking hell if I have to do one more hab dreyko I'm going to lose my fucking mind. I wanted to finish a quest for 15 missions and I think my last 5 to 6 were in there
If you're running Malice, there's really only a handful of options at the moment. I do like that I'm learning the map layouts at least. Tomorrow should be a nice refresh (not sure when servers are coming down).
If you think fatshark doesn't understand the range of a shotgun, wait until you hear about the other things that they don't understand. They seem to think that the act of aiming down the sights causes all of the pellets to condense into a single slug that follows the same trajectory. At least that's how it worked in the october build. Either Psykers can't get them in the live build or I haven't found one yet.
edit:
That's my biggest complaint about fatshark. There are countless IMPORTANT things that they just don't explain ANYWHERE.
I've got one weapon that applies "Brittleness" to armored enemies. I've got another one that has something called "Shattering impact" that applies "+3 rending" to armored opponents. I think one of those two effects decreases the effectiveness of enemy armor. Probably. Can't say for sure. I might be completely wrong.
But back to that shotgun. Does the behavior of the pellet spread changing if you fire it from the hip vs from ADS make an ounce of sense? NO. Is it an important detail to know when you take it into combat. HELL YES IT IS. Does Fatshark document this detail anywhere? NO.
There's supposed to be some kind of weapon crafting/upgrade system. However it's disabled at the moment. In the october beta, we could pick up plasteel containers in the missions that were supposed to be a resource for crafting. Those pickups are disabled in the live build because I suppose that they hate us and don't want us to accumulate a stash of plasteel in advance of them turning crafting on. There's also a barbershop in one corner of the Mourningstar were we can redesign our characters, but I'm not sure how exhaustively they'll let us recreate them.
So had a weird situation yesterday, where one of the players wanted to sprint run through the entire level, and just let the NPCs spawn behind us.
For the most part it worked, until I was surprised by a traitor spawning in front of me so I took a swing with my axe, which seemed to activate all of them.
So I found these two rifles in the shop. One provides +damage and the other provides +ranged damage. The fact that there is a distinction here gives me pause and raises questions.
A lot of these weapon traits make me feel like I'm looking at those AI-Generated Magic the Gathering cards. Individually little bits sort of make sense, but things get weird when you try to parse everything together.
Absolutely there is crafting in the game. There's also definitely more systems to the game, because those "Reach Trust Level XY" alerts make no sense unless they are breadcrumbs to the next gameplay system. The cutscene for Trust Level 11 had the requisition guy in it, and Zola basically says "Hey, the repeatable random contracts are now available in the game. ..er, I mean for the Emperor!" I'm saving a Zealot run for launch and it'll be interesting to see if my impression of the lower level grind is still there are launch.
. . .also, the music the music in this game (particularly the main theme) is fucking fantastic and goes so well with the game you wonder how terrible anything else would sound. The author is Jesper Kyd, who also worked on one of my favorite soundtracks, Borderlands 2 ("Crisis Core Angel" and "Lynchwood Combat" are really fantastic tracks on a fantastic soundtrack) and it honestly shows. Like some of the tracks in this game feel like they're playing to a full stadium during a coffee house gig.
The ogryn grenade gauntlet is my favorite thing so far. A grenade launcher that doubles as giant brass knuckles that also has an attack where you punch something and launch a grenade inside of it? Yes please

I don’t know about you guys but I really hope we don’t see a return to Vermintide’s loot box-based upgrade system
I don’t think you could even spend real money on them, they were just so slow and so frustrating to acquire higher end ones that it just pissed me off having to engage with it

Yeah I prefer the way darktide does it even if it can be annoying to get a new gun at times.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

That's an old Left 4 Dead strategy. If you just kept running, the Director really just couldn't keep up until you finally hit a setpiece where you have to defend. You just need teammates on the ball to not get hit by specials.
Yeah. Vermintide 2 had the same issue. Sprint fast enough without defeating the enemies, and the director starts choking in terms of culling the enemies behind you. IIRC Fatshark eventually fixed the issue via a combination of improving the director and the introduction of green flame "boss walls" that would prevent future pacifist speed run attempts until after you defeated a monster that had spawned in your path. Said monster fight was usually doubly obnoxious since that landslide of mobs behind you would probably catch up.
