Wonder if this reveal means she's going to supplant Jingliu's spot in the next patch with Topaz. They could be trying for a Halloween season release.
Nah, they are revealing characters for the patch after the next. Jingliu and Topaz were on the closed beta, they aren't going to add an untested character.
ETA: It's the same pattern always. When patch X is getting to near end they reveal X+2 patch characters because soon those will be on the closed beta server and the leakers will leak everything about them anyways. This way they control the reveal information and timing.

Cleared SU 6-4 with Team Landau + Himeko. It went about like you'd expect except for coming back from an auto-battle after the first Elite room to find Himeko dead in what I can only assume was a hazing incident.
Does the Silvermane Guard have someone I can report this to?

Lynx probably dumped a can of frozen fish into Himeko's coffee.

Huh, and right after Huohuo comes in a new 5 Star character to join her in the patch. Looks like Physical Erudition, so we'll see how Hoyo solves the inherent problem of Erudition doing worse at its niche than every other Path.
Oh, and his voice actor is the same as Huohuo's tail. And yes, you read that correctly.

Argenti's kit was really fucking boring from early leaks, so I suspect he'll be significantly different by the time he hits the beta server

I hope so.
Or maybe I don't? Pretty boy knights aren't my thing, and I'm not really interested in Huohuo either. Might be nice to easily pass on a whole patch, take a much needed break.
I like his design but he'd be an easy skip for me. I'm at a point in my account where I already have multiple future proof units that will only get stronger over time because of their kits, like how more DoT characters will empower Kafka without her needing to do anything

Oh, that patch is going to be a much needed skip for me considering I got Daniel and Fu Xuan, and I also want Topaz Numby
I'm torn on Topaz. Supposedly she does for follow-up attack teams what Kafka did for DoT teams, but she's also an IPC tax collector and in the world of HSR tax evasion against the monolithic capitalism-as-religion is a moral obligation.
I'm torn on both Jingliu and Topaz. I kinda want both of them, but I'm not super committed to them either.
But I need to roll on whichever banner Guinaifen is on (which sounds like it's gonna be Topaz).

Topaz kit stuff
Numby is a single target "pet" (think Lightning Lord) that will attack whoever has Topaz's Debt debuff applied. The Debt debuff makes enemies take more damage from follow up attacks, and if there's no enemy with Debt on the field it will automatically be applied to a random enemy at the start of any Ally's turn.
It's not very fast, but every time any ally makes a follow up attack, Numby's turn is forwarded by 50%, also Topaz's basic attack is considered a follow up attack.
Topaz's skill manually applies the Debt debuff to a target, and makes Numby attack instantly.
Her ult buffs Numby's damage and makes him forward his turn by 50% any time any ally uses and ult, attacks, or uses a skill. It lasts until Numby attacks twice.
Basically, the more follow up attacks you make, the more Numby will attack.
Ok, new plan: throw a couple of 10-pulls at the Argenti banner, hope for the new 4-star.
That's hell you're walking into

So I appreciate the sudden login event, but I'm very curious if the speculation around it is because of the fallout from the poorly implemented steaming event. I know I was personally screwed on that one because on the 7th day I went to get my reward and it was gone. Figured I'd go for the 14 days just in case and it and the daily stream rewards were all gone, so I'm done with streaming HSR. The "total watch minutes" part of that event was a total sham with people using Twitch bots, etc.
It's very funny that I've now invested enough time to claw past luck and auto 90% of the previous difficult content, only to instantly die the literal first turn on new difficult content. Because I wasn't lucky enough to pull one of the two (three?) required characters.
Looking forward to clearing Swarm V for the first time coincidentally exactly when the next wave of difficult content appears.

I'm assuming your quick death was in Swarm Disaster V? Swift deaths are common there too even with the meta characters. I'm sure it's doable no matter who you have if you take the right path and pick up the right defensive blessings, and assuming you've gone through the other difficulties enough to build up the passive bonuses. But there's no doubt that it's substantially easier if you have either Gepard, Luocha, or Fu Xuan. I've posted a few times about support characters being higher priority pickups than DPS for that reason.
I've unlocked everything but the stuff from the last difficulty. I've got Luocha, but you can't heal being one-shot.
The meta instantly shifting the moment new characters go on sale to make old characters less valuable is heavily reminding me of FGO. A game I no longer play.

I really have to disagree here. I cleared every path in Swarm Disaster V before Fu Xuan was released, and I don't have IL Dan (or Gepard). I used Luocha almost all the time, and yes, characters getting one-shot is the biggest problem with using him. He offers no protection to it whatsover, which is why I strongly recommend you either prioritize blessings that provide shields or boost defense (note that one Abundance blessing that increases defense of anyone who is healed; Luocha heals everyone constantly), or obviously take the Destruction blessing that splits damage. Alternatively, just add another sustain character to the team; March and Fire TB can stem the bleeding a lot more than you might think, so I used them a lot.
Power creep is certainly a concern, but I think it's a bit too early to worry about it. I guess IL Dan is pretty strong, but it doesn't seem that far ahead to me without his second eidolon.

In the most recent FGO event, the summer one, my primary farmer was Cu Caster. aka one of the very first 3 Star Servants in the game at launch. Prior to him I was using Artoria, who was also one of the first 5 Star Servants in the game at launch. If anything the new meta with Koyanskaya and Oberon have made far more Servants valuable for farming, and everything else, than before when Buster types can loop like Arts and Quick.
Not gonna dig into the FGO topic since I haven't played in a couple years, but another way to go through Swarm Disaster V without having meta stuff is to go the freeze route. I just took a run through myself; it was rough in the beginning, but once the build started to come together, it got pretty easy. The final boss was trivial.
Of course, I can't prove that I didn't just swap in a 4* team at the last second, so you'll have to take my word for it. The only other character I used was Tingyun, who I subbed out for Asta once I deemed the speed boost to be more valuable that increasing Serval's damage.
Yeah I doubt you had a problem with it considering your roster.
And needing to pull the right blessings is as much luck as getting the right character, light cone and relics. Sometimes you just get a half dozen stages in a row that give no blessings, or no rewards at all. Or just take things away with nothing in return.
I haven't played FGO in at least two years, I'll just never forgive them for Merlin followed immediately by break bars then soon after by Parvati. I feel like there was a crazy Arts looping character at that point already as well, but it's been quite a while.
I literally just said I only used units that were in the game at launch. Because you claimed that new units automatically made the old ones less valuable, which is something that is 100% false when it comes to FGO. And if you played until Merlin you know that Servants get tune-ups via Intermissions and Rank-Up quests.
Also complaining about RNG in the roguelike content of HSR is hilarious because it has always been a matter of RNG and sometimes a run is gonna go to shit. What matters is how you attempt to mitigate things that go wrong, and even then sometimes you can't really do anything and you lose. So you dust yourself off and try again, like any other roguelike in existence. It's part of the game that you will not win 100% of the time and when the content you're facing is the literal hardest in the game currently your odds of winning go way down when Aha decides to take an interest in your attempt.
I can't comment on current FGO to know what the event is like. But sometimes, yeah, random Servants are suddenly super useful to clear some random stage. Which wasn't always helpful, considering how long it took to max out levels and skills, without even including NP levels or the bonus levels. And I didn't say new Servants made old ones worse, I said they'd change the meta (by which I meant the types of stages/enemies/mechanics they presented) to devalue old Servants, and then release new ones that coincidentally solved all the problems they just created.
Which is exactly what's happening here.
And yeah, there's also an RNG factor. And my luck is bad, on top of not having the proper characters or equipment. Even with bad luck a whale simply gets to roll the dice more often. I could get a godly run of luck (I will not, but I could) but the blessings aren't going to carry a lower tier team with lower tier equipment, less eidolons, etc. etc. Even if it did full carry once somehow, you still have to beat the mode another half dozen times, with different paths and blessings.
First banner is Jingliu with Tingyun/Qingque/Sampo, second banner is Topaz along with a concurrent rerun of Seele, both with Guinaifen/Sushang/Luka. Some really good banners! Some of the event stuff they showed looked pretty neat, really looking forward to this patch.
Official banners for next patch, Seele is getting a rerun. So if you are missing her or Luocha or SW or whoever, time to start saving for reruns as well as all the new 5*s we'll be getting.

Fu absolutely gets obliterated in Swarm Disaster V without the right blessings too.
Boss AoE damage is so high that even a perfectly geared out Fu will take too much damage from say, Gepard's AoE smash or the final boss AoE attack.
SU is 100% about blessings, and SU damage output is so high that I would almost always recommend two defensive support. March 7th is probably the single best SU character with all of the things she can do. (Freeze, Shield, Cleanse debuffs, Follow-up attack)

I hit the faceroll-with-Blade break point at 4, but this holds up. My blessing selection in Destruction in particular has really shifted as I try to close out the end-on-0 goal.
Swarm Disaster IV is a pretty well balanced challenge and is great for figuring out what works, but boy does the incoming damage ramp up dramatically in difficulty V. From that run I posted yesterday, my Tingyun was one-shot by a regular punch from Svarog. I was really relying on Freeze and didn't have much in the defensive department; probably would have been better off using Bailu, since Lynxy doesn't do much to prevent people from getting blasted. But the team operated fine without Tingyun, so I just finished up without her.

Always grab that curio that lets you lose once and count it as a victory, because for my money the second boss is the hardest part of SU and that allows you to skip it.

I've heard some people give their Ting Guard of Wuthering Snow set just to keep her alive better. I don't really use her, for me the first to die is usually my SW.
I got my first Swarm IV win from a "eh I'll just level some of these path things" run, wasn't really expecting to get far but somehow never died. Getting the preservation blessing for a shield every turn and the destruction one that spreads damage around and gives -15% dmg meant Luocha could keep the whole team alive pretty well, though. The whole game mode has terrible rewards per hours spent playing for a gacha game, IMO. But it's also tons of fun when you are in the mood for it.
