Yes, because that's where I can talk about how all the shitposters who've been invited to bluesky are doing their best to get bluesky "tweets" to be commonly named "skeets"

If you don’t like the thread why are you reading it?

Trust me, just ignoring threads you don’t like is really easy, and makes the forum experience more pleasant

    Hey real talk

Juggs talked about how local elections are usually meaningful, and they're not behind the goddamned electoral college, and they're full of wild characters, from wine moms to grumpy selfish bastards who don't want to pay taxes and don't care if your child starves, etc

I'll spon have to pay attention to the school board elections, and I'm fucking terrified

What a stable of petty tyrants and assholes and racists the school board was at my high school

I hope things are better "here" but I am checking my optimism

I think voting is good but I think that a lot of people don't vote for pretty good reasons and "I'm tired of the just sheer depressing nature of the political landscape" is one of them.

Yelling at people cos they don't vote doesnt work, obviously, and actually probably has the opposite effect. That said yelling at people for being insufficiently mad about whatever X, Y and Z thing that came up on the news today is also probably a non-starter as well imo. And I think there's a cognitive dissonance (sometimes in this very thread!) where people will on the one hand have a lot of empathy for "I don't vote cos I'm tired of this shit" and yet at the same time be unhappy with people for not following every iota of data about the horrors of society in their free time.

Also I think of people who say "I can't be arsed to vote" and get yelled at for it like, they probably do vote. They're just not exalted about getting to whack their name next to Joey B. Which can you blame em.

My dad once won a school board slot for a district he didn't even live in (and thus was ineligible to hold) because a couple of his buddies and their families decided to write his name in.

    He got five votes.

Such a small pool of voters

Some asshole kid ran for school board immediately after moving out of his mom's basement

    Yes literally

And got like 10 votes and won a seat, and joined with some other member to block funding for field trips

Personality is also reflected in how you drink water.
Tsukushi who drinks well from a water bottle and Mugi who chews hard🥤

No matter what happens, Mugi is Mugi.

Voting for me is very easy because Washington state mails me a ballot, and then I can fill it out and walk down the hall of my apartment building to the mailbox and send it out. Other states make voting an actively awful experience, especially for people the people in charge don't particularly want to hear from. If it was like this for everyone I think the discourse around voting would be different, because anything that takes under ten minutes is considerably more difficult to argue about than something that could make you wait in like for like ten hours and then you find out it probably didn't matter all that much.
