Weird series of thoughts I got a song stuck in my head
In Wow one of few people who are openly right wing were calling out Taylor Swift dumb comments later I made fun of she was singing RatM songs in her shows
Someone brought up Chapell Roan and her comments I had no idea who this was as one of the following comments was she is gay [who cares is my thought} As the above person said not many people admit to their sexuality in their songs
I somehow remembered this song https://youtu.be/sLJbYJzD-Y0?si=Yn3pLomN4wF6hfl8
and now it's stuck in my head again
Left Florida Thursday ahead of/alongside hurricane Helene and made it to Maryland for Oceans Calling. We caught the end of Phillip Phillips who was good then saw Larkin Poe who ruled. It's a very blues inspired rock band fronted by sisters. Lead singer plays guitar and the other sister plays slide guitar and it ruled. Definitely a band I'm keeping an eye on going forward.
Next up was The Darkness who didn't bring merch which bummed me out, but have a very good show, although they didn't play the new single or black shuck. During one song the lead singer gets everybody clapping then does a handstand and claps his feet in rhythm. He introduced I Believe in a Thing Called Love by starting Immigrant Song then saying fuck that we're playing our most popular song and the one Taylor Swift likes.
We skipped Sugar Ray and OAR to get closer for 311 who did an amazing set. So much energy and heavier than they sound on cd. The drummer plays an insane solo then they bring out more drums for the rest of the band to play like a drumline including tossing drumsticks between members. It was the highlight of day 1.
We saw Cage the Elephant last as the hurricane caught up with us. They sounded like their sound mixing was off. The big songs still sounded good though.
We skipped Sublime to get better spots for Blink 182, but the weather made them start late and cut their set short so we didn't hear them, which was the highlight my gf was looking forward to.
As everybody thought 182 was cancelling we started leaving with everybody else. All the buses were full and it kept getting worse and worse rain as we walking away from the show. After the roads started to flood we got a Lyft, but the guy cancelled when he saw we were wet. You're driving on a concert show in a hurricane people are going to be wet. After about two miles of walking a bus pulled up and people got off so we could finally head back to the air bnb to dry and relax.
Despit the beginning and end I had a lot of fun and am seriously impressed by 311s live show, definitely check them out if you get a can.

when we saw the darkness last year he singled a guy out in the front as having UNLICENSED DARKNESS MERCH! GIVE IT HERE!
then he put it on over his spandex and wore it on stage for a few songs lol
we took our 9yo daughter who had an absolute blast
While "The Joker" is almost certainly the worst song I've heard this year, it's kind of transcendently bad, and I have already started saying "The Joker is me" when I forget to move the laundry over

The whole thing is a bafflingly bad (and weird) record put out by someone with so much incredible talent that it almost feels like a prank.
minor incident on
Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust
On my drive up the other day I listened to Sing the Sorrow and except for the final two songs that are 'hidden' tracks with a bunch of silence before they actually play that I was too grumpy about to give a proper listen I'm pretty sure this is an all time great album and I always kind of forget how much I like AFI.
Miseria Cantare has a special place in my heart being one of my favorite wrestlers entrance music on the indies, and being there live at the show when CM Punk did a whole throwback to his RoH career was one of the coolest moments in my life.
Silver and Cold and Girl's not Grey flank the only song that is just okay on the album so you barely notice.
i finally got a spotify account and have been having so much fun going through all the suggested women, femme-presenting, or enby artists that it has recommended to me (over 400 liked songs atm, goodness - probably gonna trim that down a little as they cycle back through for another listen - literally can't find songs that i only remember a bit of until they play again, lmao)
among my favorites though, is Kiki Rockwell and Paris Paloma, also Chappell Roan, but i assume at this point everyone is familiar with her, lol (if you aren't, can't recommend her enough - a very good queer icon) - just that good good angry at the patriarchy vibes and dressing it up in subtle (or not so much) rage, with a bit of celtic and/or witchiness mixed in depending on the song
Much better weather for the second day of Oceans Calling yesterday. We found out the festival tickets included the boardwalk rides so we went on them during Switchfoot who were pretty bad live. We missed The Beaches as well, but did see some of their show from the ferris wheel which was cool.
Then we saw The Hives and that was an awesome show. The lead singer did a great job of getting people hyped for their lesser known songs. During this part we were working on filling a bag of cans to get a free shirt. That realky hindered my ability to get a good view of Grouplove, but they were also on the small stage with a bigger crowd than Friday. Was fun to hear them then made my way to see Rebelution which was a fun ska band.
We went back to rides and saw The Beach Boys from the ferris wheel and heard "California Girls" and "Help me Rhonda."
Then we went to Offspring which was great. Loved that the between song patter was between Dexter and the guitarist and not Dexter and the crowd, it was a lot of fun. They teased the intro of a bunch of covers with Ironman, Sweet Child O Mine, before playing Barber of Seville. Loved Bad Habit and Pretty Fly, they had the audience sing the line starting with him getting a tattoo and it was funny hearing everybody fade out as they didn't know the whole verse.
The Killers were the headliners and was really good. They did a good job alternating between hits and newer stuff. Liked their cover of "American Girl."
It just took staring at the sheet music for a long time and going back and forth to a chart to remind me which line and space is what note.
Odd it's still sunny outside after playing it tho... Maybe my guitars aren't magical enough
the spaces spell FACE!
The mnemonic from middle school band for the lines was Every Good Boy Does Fine which is unclear on how helpful it is to me. It's EFGABCDE so it's just A to G shifted a little bit.
I think it kinda just takes some time and start simple obviously. Reading chords is uh, I'm still not sure if I can read chords
The issue with the sheet music is when it's above out below the regular ledger lines, harder to let track of when they get up there for me and it's harder to remember the order.
Also a chord unless it's a modified one is just a root a third and a fifth right? So It should be... Like a root with another note stacked three up from the root then two up from that? You'd have to be able to read the key signature probably fit the accidentals?

They’re always stacked 3 up from each other if you’re talking about root position chords

But it is also a bunch of fun, don't take this as me telling you not to, just wear a mask or whatever
Hit em with some like, krylon in cool patterns
Michael Cera has an album, it's pretty good, Clay Pigeons especially. it's got a real Simon & Garfunkel vibe I enjoy

Not a bad idea, but it does seem cruel to the zombies.

My brother turned me on to these guys. I guess he knows them or something.
Anyway I really dig their overall sound
Call to Arms wandering off on a ten minute jam session and then screaming back into the finale has been sticking with me for days.
