I'm not really big on grandiose CGI intros, but Dawn of War was pretty incredible.

It's the whole intro-before-the-intro aspect I dislike. Let's hurry up and get in-game and start telling the story. Come on. Hop to. My backlog is too long to sit through this.

Not really ass kicking, but very well animated and a lot of fun to watch.

Not the intro, but the prologue chapter of IWD2 is actually pretty damn good. Better than any of the other IE games by far, anyway.

Guilty Gear X and Guilt Gear XX. Nothing to get you pumped up for a fast-paced fighting game than a heavy metal montage of the characters.

The Japanese always impress me with what they manage to do with a series of game stills and visual effects.
    Eien no Aselia

    Guardian Heroines Final
    Duel Savior

PS, Duel Savior gets bonus points for the opening theme also being the last boss theme.

For nostalgia reasons I have to go with Ninja Gaiden...yes the first one.

It was the first time I have ever seen anything like that, and because of it and the cutscenes between levels, that game had me by my eight year old balls for a week, I lived, breathed and ate that game until it was all over, and now I am experiencing it all over again on the VC, only now I suck, and thankfully don't have to leave the system on for a week for fear of starting over.

I'd say that Final Fantasy 4 had a pretty good one. The flying formation of airships as they did their plundering plus the theme music was pretty kickin' for the time.

Definitely Half-Life. Half-Life 2 wasn't as good, all it consisted of was a robotic-sounding G-man going on about stuff.

I'd say most Blizzard Cinematics, especially the more current ones. WC3.

I hear that. Anything before I press Start Game should be more like a movie trailer, getting me excited about the game and ready to commit a few hours to it. Ace Combat 5 and Zero, and especially Resident Evil 4 all did this really well.

It's also a class act to include some in-game footage as the 'screensaver' at the main menu. Cinematics can be fun, but I like seeing what a game has to offer in the actual gameplay. Before actually diving into it, I mean.

Half-Life, definitely, is my favorite intro of all time. The whole idea of the tram ride was just brilliant, and brilliantly executed.

Halo2, I think, had a much better intro than Halo1, and is probably second place: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9et7DSJ9uw

Fantastic voice acting, background music, beautiful set pieces (the first reveal of the mac gun array above earth.. high charity), very dramatic, fantastic iconography, the headpiece fading into the moon. Simply brilliant.

Yeah, admittedly it wasn't ground breaking, but in terms of making me stand in awe of the scope of it all, I was pretty floored by its epic-ness.

Though I would say God of War 2's intro level beats just about everything else in the past generation or so.

Metal Gear Solid 3 has an awesome intro, which I am too lazy to find on YouTube and post.

However, i will post a link to a vidoe of pretty much every FMV from Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire
    (Warning! Spoilers!)
The intro is very cool, and I think RA II is much better than the first. And the acting... so cheesy... in a good way!

    Myth 2.

Note that that's a compilation of all the games' FMVs edited together, so stop watching after the title comes up if you don't wanna be spoiled.

I mean, Myth 1's cinematics were pretty awesome already, but then they switched from Disney-style to anime-style for Myth 2 and it just instantly became 25 times better. And then you have how the intro perfectly sums up the events of Myth 1 without going into too much detail, and also, Soulblighter is a total badass. Then he shows up as a crow and you know shit is about to go down.
