I have to say my favorite Final Fantasy game is X-2 :P That game is so unabashedly and unapologetically fan-servicey, it's charming. In contrast to all the Final Fantasy games that try to teach you morals and whatnot.
It makes me fairly unpopular at time but honestly I think games are a pretty shitty storytelling device overall. they work better when they focus on creating a good setting and interesting characters and leave the story itself fairly minimal.
Like the Baldur's Gate games. The story wasn't anything to write home about(hell you could summarize it in a paragraph) but the characters were cool and the settings believable. Would it have been a better game if Irencicus blabbed on for an hour about his motivations? Not really. Why was it fun then? the mechanics worked well, there were lots of different things to do and there were several different styles of playing. If I really wanted a story I'll read a damn book.

I just refer to that one as FFX: Lesbian Slumber Party

It's like the porno final fantasy. The characters you sort of liked from one of its okay games that are gathered together again for no decent reason so you can check out their cleavage and posses extra fap material. Digital masturbation of the poorest kind.
You can't count JRPGs. Expecting a good story from a JRPG is like expecting a retard to go to college.
*facepalm*
I'm sorry Irene, I'm sticking by that statement. I have yet to play a JRPG that has well-written dialogue.
Don't you think that's more due to poor translation rather than poor writing? These games weren't written in English, you know :P
You know, the thought had crossed my mind. If I remember, someone had once said that even in Japanese, the dialogue is still fairly poor. It's just that most people don't really care.
I know there are certain requirements that have to be fulfilled. Houk is the expert on this, actually. The guy does translation for video games as his job.
I think it's mainly due to the fact that the amount of time/effort/money that would have to be put into a really good dialogue translation far outweighs the benefit. Game companies have been getting along pretty well with fairly poor dialogue, so why waste any more money on it?
If you really wanted to get good writing into a game, you'd hire on a couple of full-time writers, which a lot of companies don't have. Even then, you'd have to ensure that you give them enough time to work. I'm not saying that good dialogue is impossible for Japanese games, I'm just saying that I've yet to see it done.
I've heard plenty of people claim that several JRPGs have great dialogue, and I've generally given them their due. However, I've always come out disappointed. You'll have to excuse me if I am a bit leery.
I found modern art pretty interesting when I took art history
you really really need to know the historical context, though, and it kind of stopped being interesting when everyone and their dog started doing it.
I kinda like some of the Futurists, because they had neat ideas about representation of reality. Apart from that, a lot of it seemed to be self-congratulatory garbage.

Have you tried Disgaea? It's not your traditional RPG, because the battle system is turn-based strategy, but it has a cool storyline and fun characters. And the voice-acting actually isn't painful!

What console is it for? I'll see if I can find it for rental.

Did you play FFXII? Or Shin Megami Tensei Persona 3?

the cafe over at the state library is really nice, though, and I picked up The Omnivore's Dilemma

Unless you count my DS, my PS1 is my most advanced console.
Also, FFT's story doesn't make up for the monotony of its game play.
So I have a lack of faith.
And I'm rambling.

The Cat: It's usually easier to just stick with classic art. It's mostly porn, so it's pretty easy to appreciate.

It's not necessarily the viewers' fault if the art doesn't speak to them.
When it comes out on DS, I'm taking the chance.
Because come on it's demons kicking asses.
you really really need to know the historical context, though, and it kind of stopped being interesting when everyone and their dog started doing it.
First Richy, now you. What a day!
It's not necessarily anyone's fault. Not all forms of art appeals to or speaks to all kinds of people.

Modernists may suggest otherwise.
You have two hands for a reason
this is possibly the most amazing thing ever. Just when you think it can't get any faster, it does. Then it gets even faster. Then insane at the end.
took out her barrettes and her hair spilled out like rootbeer

I am curious to see what you think of it, and if you should come across any follow-up or supplementary articles/papers.

I was reading it over lunch, and forgot to chew on a couple of occasions. Good intro :P
Holy crap, I just remembered I have some in the fridge. rad!
Oh, give me some!
because i guess that would be cool
but, it would be cooler if it were a huge berry or something
They're all basically Plant Embryos.
What console is it for? I'll see if I can find it for rental.
so i can call a watermelon a berry and it would still be correct
Maybe, but not from this information. Berries are fruit but fruits are not always berries.
(Berries=Fruit) =/= (Fruit=Berries)
*shake fist*
PS2.
sadly, the bungie thread turtles has long since been lost
Nooooooooooooooo
oh well it will live on in my heart
