This is the new Amazing Spider-Man thread.

Yes yes, we all know how you (and everyone else) feels about OMD.

But this is a BRAND NEW DAY.

Starting next week ASM will be shipping 3x a month, starting with an arc by Dan Slott and Steve McNiven.
Other creators that will be part of the regular rotation include writers Bob Gale, Marc Guggenheim, and Zeb Wells. Along with artists Phil Jimenez, Salvador Larocca, and Chris Bachalo.

All the art looks really good. I don't know anything about any of the writers besides Slott (who I like); so that's a pretty big question mark after Straz, who, warts and all, was a talented writer.

As far as fictional characters go, I think Spidey is really great and I'm excited for this! 8-)

I haven't given a shit about 616 Spidey in quite a while other than picking it up when Wieringo was on FNSM and even that was pretty painful story-wise. I have to admit that I'm at least willing to give this new direction a shot. Even though Spidey's been married for longer than I've been collecting comics, I still think of him as a single guy, working at the Daily Bugle and dating women who are way too attractive for him. Basically the "iconic" Spider-Man for me is the Spider-Man from the 60s cartoon.

The only problem I have with going back to the old status quo is that... it's the old status quo. As long as they can keep the stories fresh and interesting, I'm willing to look the other way at some of the continuity rape that's going on. I'd like him to have a supporting cast other than his wife and aunt again and his "new" spider powers were mostly ignored anyway.

The cynical part of me also wonders how long it'll be before they cave and go back to the "old" continuity again. Are people going to be able to accept him dating other women without it feeling like he's "cheating" on Mary Jane? Will the continuity errors continue to pile up and annoy people? Will Bob Gale be able to fix everything by having Peter play "Johnny B. Goode" at his parents' prom?

McNiven's Spidey was one of my favorite things about Civil War. And yeah the preview art so far has been amazing.

I'm interested to see what the feedback here is. I'm most assuredly unhappy with the continuity rape that's happened and Quesada's apparent inability to see it but Jesus God those are some pretty pictures.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the past is gonna be brought up in the Wolverine arc with Bachalo.

Bachalo's art seems rather tame in this!

Yeah but no one knows he's Spider-Man now, isn't the point of him being single and doing the magic thing that he's suppose to be white and nerdy all over again as described in the Weird Al song.

He's a nerd, and horribly unlucky in just about everything; however, when it comes to chicks, he always done pretty well for himself. I think Invincible said, upon discovering Pete is married to a gorgeous MJ, "Nice, dude." Peter: You aren't surprised? Most people are surprised to see me with her. Invincible: “You're athletic, you look ok, good sense of humor... what's so surprising?”

Could be. Last I heard, she was in semi-retirement. They could always have her break-up off-panel if they want her and Pete to date.

Pete's a cool guy. I don't think he'd have any trouble attracting women. Once they got to know him, and his guilt issues, keeping them could prove difficult.

Considering Justice is having a fling with Ultra Girl in the pages of The Initiative, it seems slightly doubtful they got married.

Isn't a single Spider-man really a reset of sorts, so it is really more like Back to Status Quo When Joe Was Younger and Reading Spider-man? I mean, this is not "growth" or "development" or a character "evolving naturally" or whatever; it is in fact wiping away all of those things.

Harry was not alive in OMD. He is alive in BND. Therefore, this belongs in the BND thread, because Norman's history wasn't screwed up until now.

Jesus christ you guys, we didn't even make it two pages.

Can we at least wait until the first issue of BND comes out before we start bitching in this thread too? OMD is the story that brought Harry back, so yes that is the story that fucks with Thunderbolts. That thread has been more discussing the fallout of the story than the story itself anyway.

and Sax, Norman's history has been screwed since he came back to life, it's just screwed up more now.

As much as I hated some of the new powers, it did kinda give Spidey the boost he needed to hang with the Avengers.

Granted, now he's the other "brick" for the New Avengers, but still. Cranking his spider-sense and strength up seemed like a natural progression for someone who's been doing this for years.
