LewiePMummy, that Final Fantasy 7 one is my second favorite - second to your rendition of Shadow of the Colossus which is currently hanging in my new Boston apartment.
Thanks, both of you. Megaman001, I forgot you were in Boston - if I'd remembered, we could have met up at PAX!!!! Dozy me.
I've done some work on Aethelred's picture, but I've forgotten how to take photos off my iphone, when I've worked it out, I'll post a few pictures.
I moved here back in January, but I couldn't go to PAX. That was during midterms and if I had gotten crazy for the days of PAX I probably wouldn't be in school today.
Maybe next year though, depending on how my anesthesia residency goes.
Oh, my pigging iphone and me just are not cooperating with each other. I'm now trying to use imageshack from my phone cos even though I've sent myself the photos, I can't find them on my computer. Grrrrrrr!

I'm really enjoying painting this - I've not seen the film this is from yet, but the style is fairly easy to copy so far.
If you are unacquainted with Hayao Miyazaki, you need to remedy that immediately. It's like...taking every Disney animated movie, add them together, then multiply the heart-touching by a million. Also, add a flying sequence to every movie.
I've watched Ponyo with LewieP and McMonkey, that was lovely, LewieP is tracking this one down, so hopefully on one of my days off this week, we'll get to watch it.

Ah, my mistake. I just assumed everybody interested in Ghibli films had seen Totoro by now. From what you've posted in these threads, I'd also recommend Kiki's Delivery Service, if you can find it.
I got the rarer movies in a Ghibli collection set from a Japanese/Korean import shop, but I half-believe it's pirated.

I saw the larger Disney released Ghibli films before I even knew Tortoro was a Miyazaki film. It's got some of the most authentic kids I've ever seen in a film, live action or no.
LewieP's Mum! My finances have finally straightened themselves out, I'll be doing my Oxfam thing next paycheque. Sorry it took so long!

Absolutely. In fact, *spoiler warning*Roger Ebert's Review of Totoro*end spoiler* is one of my favorite movie reviews of all time, specifically because he talks about that kind of thing. In fact, re-reading the review brings back a lot of the heart-warming sensations of the movie.
Not to get too spoilery, but...
Here is a children's film made for the world we should live in, rather than the one we occupy. A film with no villains. No fight scenes. No evil adults. No fighting between the two kids. No scary monsters. No darkness before the dawn. A world that is benign. A world where if you meet a strange towering creature in the forest, you curl up on its tummy and have a nap.
and especially
There is none of the kids-against-adults plotting of American films. The family is seen as a safe, comforting haven. The father is reasonable, insightful and tactful, accepts stories of strange creatures, trusts his girls, listens to explanations with an open mind. It lacks those dreary scenes where a parent misinterprets a well-meaning action and punishes it unfairly.
Here's the next installment of My Neighbour totoro - its nearly finished, just the girls, some leaves and the fish to finish. I got more done today than i thought I would, hopefully I'll finish it in the next couple of days.
So, its nearly finished - did some this afternoon instead of going weekly food shopping, much more fun!
I've just the tree on the bottom left to do, plus a little bit of detailing, I'm aiming to finish it tomorrow morning:
I'll PM Aethelred, and the next person on the list - for some reason, there's 2 people, Druhim and trueheretix - i don't know what they want me to paint!

Doh, I should have kept a better eye on this thread! That looks.. really amazing. I knew you'd nail the landscape, but I wasn't sure if Totoro himself would be that easy to do - but you really captured his big goofy look. I love the bulge where he's being leant into, too.
Druhim has dropped out of the list, and I'm now waiting for trueheretix and 1ddqd to get back to me on their images. Hurry up, folks, as I have nothing to paint, and don't want to have to weed my garden!

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm way behind on the list, and need to catch up a bit before I reopen it - I think I'm on September last year now, once I've done a few more pictures, I'll think about opening it again. I promise I will open it again in the next few months!
If the next few pictures are as pretty as Totoro, I may catch up sooner than I expect to.

Hello LewiePs Mummy, I really enjoyed looking at your painting. I know absolutely nothing about painting and I'm going to ask you a very stupid question !!! What is the medium of your work? Is it oil painting? Acrylic?

Hi Zeroid, thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying what I'm doing!
I use acrylic paints on stretched canvas - it's good, cos you can use them thickly like oils, or dilute them to be more like watercolour paints. I used to only paint inwatercolours on board or paper, buti prefer the flexibility of acrylics.
Its not a stupid question at all!
Have a look at other people's work in AC, there are some amazing artists here!
