Am I the only person who thinks that it`s freakin /awesome/ how it costs $42 for early-bird pre-reg? (yes I'm counting the service charge, because without, it wouldn't be as epic coincidence) :P

LOL! I didn't even think of that! Usually The Guide is the first thing that'll pop into my mind when I see 42... for some reason I didn't notice.
What? You haven't packed yet?
I definitely should unpack and sort the rest of my swag from last year. We haven't gotten our art framed yet, and I haven't even cracked open the free copy of LOTR online I got. Nor have I played Ouendan, purchased at the Pink Godzilla booth.
Good thing we have 7 months!

We're using a new ticketing system: Brown Paper Tickets. These guys are a scrappy local outfit that's a bit more in tune with PAX. Great group of folks that support a lot of indie events and musicians here in Seattle.
I set up the ticketing pipeline, and while doing so missed the toggle that indicates who pays the Brown Paper Ticket service fee. It's fixed now, and we'll figure out a way to refund those that were overcharged.
Sorry about that!
Guess I'm going with Brown Paper Tickets after all.
You were that offended over $2?
...k
I can give you $2 if you want?
I don't know why you quoted my post, but I wasn't offended over the $2 charge. I just didn't like the look of the site for some reason.
Alright I now have 2 tickets to PAX 2008. Now all that's left is hotels and airfare. I might want to pay off my credit card a bit more before tossing those on though...

Reserving a hotel doesn't charge anything to your card. When you check in, they put a hold on your card for the total of your stay, but they don't process the charge until you check out (along with any room service, pay per view and telephone usage). The credit card is only used when reserving to hold the room. In most hotels, if you cancel your reservation within 1-3 days of the date of your stay, they will charge you for a night's stay on the card you used to hold the room.
BYOC passes get sold time between early-bird and pre-registration ending.
Thanks for the update.
They will probably go up around the same time as last year (June-ish). The late BYOC registration worked out well this past year at cutting down noshows

Thanks for this info, I wasn't 100% sure and I didn't feel like asking, lest I make myself out to be a complete moron.

Sorry to be a nit-picker but... You're saying BYOC will be sold sometime before pre-reg is up? Is pre-reg cheaper/different than early-bird? Is it just me or is this a really confusing post.
Can we get an official word on the BYOC as that's the one thing I want.

Earlybird is when pre-reg is first announced and at its cheapest. BigRed's post about BYOC above is about as official as you're gonna get.

Early-bird = what's happening now
Pre-reg = the entire period where you can still buy passes online

"Early bird" pricing for 3 day badges runs from now through March 31st -- you're still pre-registering, just saving more money.
At that point, you can still pre-register for PAX (until August 1st), but it'll cost you $5 more for the same 3 day badge.
When you pre-register, you'll be asked whether you're interested in BYOC. We send out an e-mail notification to the folks that say "yes" when BYOC registration goes live.
BYOC registration will occur sometime in the late spring/early summer; the delay generally helps decrease the number of no-shows we see day-of.

edit: I took some liberties with the thread title, I hope Robert doesn't mind.
To further note the benefits of byoc even though its not up yet, within a group of 4 of us who went to byoc last year, we won 3 passes to pax 08 including byoc (one friend won doom tourney and trackmania tourney and we solved the quiz as well (I did alot for that). Thats means more money to spend on shwag. Not to mention the place to go and relax anytime you want and just chill on the internet, play some retarded games (like emulated nhl 94 2v2 and 2 different computers, playing 2 different games at the same time (gg sync)), or just talk it up with randoms.
PAX was freaking awesome last year and I really needed it cuz I was devastated at the time.

Alright, my mighty card/pass of awesomeness is now bought and paid for.
Now, what sort of voodoo budgeting will it take for me to afford hotel and airfare this year? And if I wind up "In the Navy" can I get furlough that weekend?

Hey guys, I'm a PAX noob and I would like to know do you need both a PAX 3 day pass and register for BYOC or would just registering for BYOC be enough ? If I need to buy the 3 day pass does registering for BYOC cost extra? If so how much (based on last years price) ? Thx for helping out a noob

You need both.
If you want to bring your computer for the LAN then you need to buy both a 3day pass (which gets you into PAX) *and* the BOYC pass which gives you a seat at the Bring your own computer LAN room.
Hey guys I'm new to the forum and I'm starting to get antsy about PAX pre reg for some reason. I was wondering if anybody can tell me when the PAX 08 site is going to be up. I've put off buying the early bird badge so I can hopefully get some hotel package or something...don't really know how the hotel thing works.
Can I still get the early birds and then get a hotel package or whatever it is that goes on?

Hi Snoowy!
The PAX hotel rates are independent of the badge sales; you can pre-register for PAX now and take advantage of the hotel deals once we launch the site -- they aren't offered in "badge+hotel" package form.
We'll be launching very soon, as soon as we fix an international addressing issue (mentioned above) in our ticketing system.
