South Park: season 12

Starts tomorrow. Hooray!

And the first episode is Cartman-centric. Mmm-mmm. Cartman is, without a doubt, one of the best fictional characters of our time if not the best.

Eric Cartman is nigh-Shakespearean. I mean, really, can you think of any other modern character who is totally devoid of any sort of redeemable characteristics, and yet, at the same time, is completely believable?

I'm amazed that South Park still manages to be as funny, if not moreso, than some of the earlier seasons. It has its ups and downs, but overall it's the most consistent of any animated comedy show outside of maybe Futurama. Of course, there aren't that many episodes per season.

    Still looking forward to it.

Wow, thanks for the reminder, I almost forgot. I only missed one episode form last season, the one where they compared stool samples or something.

And to OP, yes Eric Cartman made my list of the greatest of all time after the episodes that he tried to get Family Guy shut down.

I'm not amazed that it's better than the very first seasons, because they were silly fart and dead Kenny jokes. But since things got awesome around season 7 or 8, yeah, they've done a great job of remaining consistent. I think that mostly stems from them being able to take advantage of the current pop culture or news items in a very timely fashion.

Watching the 'best-of' stuff on Comedy Central has renewed my interest in South Park so much. At one point late at night during the weekend I was ecstatic because there was like four more hours worth of shows left to watch. I can't wait.

The marking for when it got good to me was the movie. When the movie came out, it's as if they realized "hey, we can use this as an excellent vehicle for social commentary." And so they did. And it was good. And it just got better with time. It's kinda plateaued, but it's still regularly excellent, although some of the more random shows can get a bit stupid.

One of the best shows on TV, certainly.

They actually put Trey Parker's voice through some sort of machine to change his voice for Cartman's voice. People who try to imitate his voice annoy me no end because of this.

Is this fact? I was always under the impression that he could do the voice without anything based on the movie BASEketball. He psyches out the fat guy at the end by doing the Cartman voice. Granted they could have easily put that voice in during editing, but it seems like it's just him making his voice sound like that.

No, they use a modulator to achieve that voice. I'm pretty sure it's shown in some of the extra material on the season 1 DVD.

Speaking of which, the intros they do for each show in the earlier seasons are genius.

I've always loved that mean little turd. The Scott Tenorman shenanigans are, to this day, my favorite "Cartman moment".

I wish I knew where the blasted thing was, but I used to have an old TV Guide (circa Season 2) around which interviewed Matt and Trey, asking them where they got the ideas from. Their response (paraphrased):

"Kyle and Stan are the two of us. Kenny is there because we like saying 'Oh my God, they killed Kenny! You Bastards!', and Cartman is the garbage in everyone's soul."

That about sums him up for me o_O

I remember in one of their interviews, they said "yeah, originally, he was supposed to be Stan, and I was supposed to be Kyle, but eventually, we realized we're both just Cartman."

Scott Tenorman Must Die is not only the finest episode of South Park, it is one of the finest moments of television ever.

And it was lifted directly from Titus Andronicus.

Sweet. This has been one of my favorite shows since it came out. I recall taping season 1 episodes cause I figured it was going to get thrown off there air, 10 years later (ugh that makes me feel old) it's still going strong. I doubt I could give a favorite episode but Season 8 I think was the best overall, with the best episode : comedy gold ratio, in my books. Not many shows last this long let alone are this funny so long. Even if you're watching their political opinions layed out nice and neat for you much of the time (especially later in the series they don't bother even hiding it) it still remains very entertaining. I try not to keep track of when things are coming out because my patience sucks so that it's starting tomorrow is great, I think I can wait that long without getting frustrated.

As for the intros, I always crack up at the thought of Cooking Bacon with Macon.

What about the Helen Keller ep? "Just the same shit that I always see when I close my eyes."

Or the "Marjorine" one where they fake Butters' death and his parents think that he is an abomination from hell when he comes back.

South Park is the funniest show I have ever watched, though. Pretty much every episode from season 6-7 onwards is comedy gold, and the seasons before those are defenitely funny.

South Park is pretty much the only show that gets better with time. Looking back at the first season, that stuff was awful. All a bunch of retarded extremely not-clever fat jokes and fart jokes. Look at it now, and it's gold. I can't wait.

This show has only improved, and it makes me happy it's still around. I love the episode where Cartman tries to fake Tourettes and ends up spewing the truth all the time. Another fantastic one I saw recently was where Cartman's mom meets a dog trainer and they make him into a good person, until Ms. Cartman is left to her own devices.
