I've always loved SG-1. I think the concept was pretty great and they had some great writers. Things took a bit of a downhill tumble during and after season 8, but it held strong. I was always sorry to see O'Neill (two L's) go.
SGA? Didn't start strong at all. Nope. But it has gotten progressively better and better. This is the show that actually got my girlfriend into Stargate. They were running marathons and she was all into it. Though... she did keep on asking why Weaver was always squinting. I loathed the character of Ford here. I think he was just 1)not very developed and 2) a bad actor.
SGU makes me nervous. The young cast with the most stereotypical personalities is already waving me off the show. The young chubby computer genius who is a slacker and always sarcastic? Really? Also...I think Lou Diamond Phillips is horrible. Really horrible.
The basic concept is that millions of years ago, the Ancients sent out an automated ship to seed planets across the universe with Stargates. A while after that, they sent out an inhabited ship to follow after that and explore around.
Is there any explanation as to why the Ancients didn't just dial the new Stargate addresses from a single coordinating point?
Universe is starting as a 3 parter. The first two parts will be on one night, and the third will be the next week.
That's kind of what they did with the first two, anyway. I know SG-1 was a three-parter, but I don't remember if they aired more than one the first night, though I believe they did.
That fat rosy cheeked fellow seems rather irritating, but then I've only seen ads for this show so far. Scale of one to ten, how irritating was the fat rosy cheeked fellow?
It was odd seeing the dangerously cheesy looking Goa'uld ships in Galactica shaky cam.
We kept waiting for the taikos.
Also I'm not exactly sure why they couldn't have used the RC floaty-cam to press the button to seal the ship. In the next episode someone is going to realize this and be just sick with guilt.

I think everyone watching this show was yelling at their TV "SEND IN THE CAMERA YOU DOUCHES!"
But noooooooo

Is it me or was the colonal trying way too hard to channel some Adama?
the fat kid was alright, not as bad as I expected. I hated the lieutenant guy though, just seemed like a dumb character. felt like they could've got someone less bland to play him. he's no Shepherd for sure
didn't like that they killed off the Asian colonel in the attack, felt like he had some potential
only character I liked was Rush, but I liked Baltar too so...
If the fat guy is less irritating than you'd think just looking at him, then I am willing to give this a shot

I like Eli. He's just a regular dude who got caught up in some heavy shit, Last Starfighter style.
And yeah, the comparisons to BSG are inevitable. Dr. Rush is very Baltar, except he's not completely irredeemable.
But since BSG was so awesome and such a huge departure from previous sci-fi, it's also inevitable that it's going to have an influence on pretty much any space sci-fi show that comes after it.
SGU does have the advantage of already having an existing continuity and franchise behind it, so it will still have connections to it and I think will give it a bit more leniency in the "omg bsg ripoff" department.

We'll see I suppose.
It is going to primarily feature Jack.

YES
O'NEILL centric SG-1 is the way to go
And don't call me Frankly.
Excuse me. "Dr" Frankly....sorry.
It was a good line.
Then I went back and watched a few episodes last year.
It was..
It wasn't very good.
Steam
Dr. Rush is a total Baltar analogue.
These were my thoughts exactly.
If people don't start turning up not human, I will be surprised.

Was he looking a little tubby to you? I kept feeling like his neck was trying to crawl over the collar of his uniform.

Hopefully I will get used to the cast. I loved SG-1 and eventually started liking the Atlantis cast.
The soldier who was in detention on the base is kind of an annoying character too. They are trying too hard to make him look crazy and unbalanced.
Aaand the enemy attack from the beginning was.. something.
I am hoping the show gets better as it goes on.
Also the whole exploring a large Ancient [strike]city[/strike] space ship that is really old and powerful and falling apart seems kind of familiar.
