ROCK BAND: "I'm not trying to cause a big s-s-sensation"
Posts
Just did an RMA on a pedal. (Needing a new one anyways.) and... nothing. Did it normally and all went through easily, no proof of purchase... so I dunno.

Congrats! Now try for 8.5 :0)
I had just been thinking about this business problem -- I love this game and really want this business venture to be profitable, so we get more games of this type -- and I know the retail boxed game will be a failure as a retail product if they have to keep replacing hardware every few months. Maybe they can stay afloat if their DLC sales are profitable enough to carry a retail product that loses money, in a sort of give-away-the-razors-but-sell-the-razorblades strategy. Otherwise I'd think they'll have to keep replacing hardware until they settle upon a hardware design with a much lower defect rate.
So, we'll have to wait and see if replacement hardware sent in the past 60 days or so has had a lower defect rate than launch hardware. (I'm talking about failure rate in aggregate -- individual horror stories count as 1 each out of 100's of thousands and fill up the thread without providing useful statistical info.)

This is inflated, though, because many of my friends who had horribly broken equipment would have just continued to use it had I not encouraged them to RMA. Still, though, 9 people is almost enough to start drawing conclusions and I think it strongly points to quality issues with the hardware. Averaging 3 RMAs per person when the game only comes with 3 instruments is pretty staggering. And it'd be even higher if 4 of us hadn't bought metal pedals and modded our guitars so the OD activation actually worked, heh.
Playing on a stool will easily stop ur leg from getting tired, and its more comfortable too. I even managed to pick up a drum stick bag that clips onto the aluminum tubing of the kit where i store my 4 or 5 sets of sticks. Good times.
Also, curse you Disturbed songs! You're awesome but too hard for me to play on Expert.

Yeah it's totally a song I regret buying.
EDIT: I am not a fan of Jimmy Buffett and my only knowledge of him was Margaritaville that gets played on the radio like...once a month. I also am not too hot on his voice. However, I went ahead and got the pack and I like all three tracks. The guitar tracks are a bit tricky but it's nothing fail-tastic, even on expert. The vocals are not hard at all and are forgiving in that the pie fills up pretty freaking quick.
The Disturbed pack I will need to get another run through but I got over 95% on sightreads on all of this week's DLC.
Guitar can be awkard at times and drums are quirkier than you would expect.

* in solo tour, there's the obvious "here's all the DLC songs, sorted by title, learn to like it" problem
* in BWT, where at least you get some different sorting criteria, I really need a "sort by download date"-type thing. Every week it gets harder and harder to even find the new songs in the pile, particularly if they're a grab-bag pack (like the PUNK packs) with tracks from different bands. Sure, I can do a band alpha-sort and find the buffet/disturbed packs easily enough, but if I want to play the PUNK 01 pack I just bought, that's a pain in the ass...
* When selecting tracks in a pick-your-setlist, I really wish it would (when picking the 2nd and subsequent tracks) place me in the list near the last song I picked, not at the top of the list each time. Particularly if I want to play all the ZZ Top tracks (in some sort of idealized future in which such things exist), I'd have to keep scrolling all the way through the list to pick each song.
And this is with 154 songs. I shudder to think what'll be like in another 6 months, by which point I'd expect to have 250-300 tracks...
They should also let you scroll UP from the start to get to the end of the list. Some songs are both hard and have band and song titles that put them perpetually at the end of the list.
But, I'll agree. If they threw in some RB Store style shortcut I'd be happy. I'd also be happy if I could continue to browse the Store while downloading, but that's a different bitch...
Do not engage the Watermelons.
The guitar parts are awesome. And I also realized how rusty I am at the guitar in this game now. Too much drumming!

It could be worse... you could have a PS3 :-(
(that's as fast as the solo career scrolling goes since the last patch)
Luckily I only have 130 songs instead of 170... when it gets up to the 200-300 mark it will take multiple minutes for me to get to the bottom of my list. *sigh*
You've been playing far too much Halo.
I'd like to be able to pause between songs, or have to press a button to move to the next one, in a set. When we tackle the endless setlist at some point I know it's going to be a pain to pause it just when the song starts as opposed to before the note track draws itself.

Now if only I could sing Highway Star. :[
If you're on 360, you can just cheat and hit the guide button. it'll make the game pause immediately.

Fucking hell, I just can't decide now. And I hate waiting. I'm guessing the probability of cross-compatibility with instruments is low.
Edit: Sorry, didn't really want to mention the 'other' game in the thread, it's purely a factor to me because of wild indecision.
It's a question of taste really. Did you like the ridiculous note charts in GH3? Did you enjoy the sloppy timings and weird chord placements?
Or did you like the slick, tight charts of GH2 and chords that made sense and fun?
Buy Rock Band, it is awesome.
This has been bugging me for a bit now... someone should set up a site where you can log in and detail exactly how and how long after purchase it took you to break your kick pedal, or other instrument. I know my kick died 4 days in on Go with the Flow. I swear the lack of quality on the pedal was a conscious decision or something. I can't see a fair number of songs getting through Q&A without someone wrecking the pedal.
I was taken in by the deal, but I wish I held off on buying the disturbed pack, because I wouldn't have bothered if I knew about the double bass parts.
As for the UI/Menu thing, only addition I would like to see is a quickplay setlist, so we can just queue up like 6 songs and go.
Killamajig and Scullykel999 on MTGO
Rock Band is just not challenging, really. I still struggle with GH, which I like. But I can jump in on Expert in Rock Band and hit 98% or higher on nigh anything.
Sorry, but it's QA (Quality Assurance), not Q&A (Questions and Answers). People at work even get this wrong. It's infuriating. :P

I did this exact same thing... sorta. I played and beat expert on GH2, then a year later, a friend got rock band and invited me over.
Now, on expert, I was nailing somewhere around 95% and up, but that was because we were just happening to pick easy songs.
A few weeks after that, said friend needed a "babysitter" for when he was getting his wisdom teeth cutout to make sure he didn't swallow too much blood. So I just played RB over at his house the whole time, since he was just passed out anyway. I went thru the solo career and made it all the way to the last set before I actually failed out of a song. Highway star to be precise.
Now, I've gold star'd about 20-25 songs in the Career, but those 5 on the last set... man those are still pretty challenging. Hell, I still can't get a 5star on Run to the Hills.
But what kept be playing is definitely the fun note charts. Man... the first time I played and got the hang of reptilia, it was awesome. Its for sure my favorite song.
Of course, high score has to be an interest to you. Because it takes little to nothing to 5star a song, but to gold star it? Man... Learn to Fly still mocks me with my single mistake.

I asked Moss about that before and he said that to his knowledge nobody broke a pedal at HMX while they were making the game. So either he wasn't aware (possible, he wasn't in QA) or they really just didn't do enough testing on the pedals (didn't have enough expert level players maybe).
However, I'm also not super agressive when I'm playing with them. Its not something I have to conciously have to think about either, I just don't stomp my foot that bad while playing. That said, I do have a couple friends that when they come over, they beat the fuck out of my drums, and sometimes, especially during the drum overdrive portion, I cringe expecting them to break.
I think some people are just a little overly rough with them.
