Omeganauts, let your voices be heard!

I received a call at 3:16 PST. Looking to my cell phone to see who was giving me cause to break from putting up a new fence, I discover that the number is listed as "Private Call." Assuming it could be something important (like a possible employer), I act professional, and answer with, "Hello, how may I help you?"
Voice which sounds oddly familiar (I have been to PAX'04 and '05): "Hello, is this Kyle Spradling?" (He pronounced my name correctly! Cool!)
My intrigued self: "Yes this is, how may I help you?"
Voice which sounds strikingly just like someone important: "Well, Kyle, this is Gabe from Penny Arcade, and I see you have registered for PAX this year. Are you still going?"
An increasingly excited me: "Yes, I am."
SweetJesusit'sGabefromOHMYGODPennyArcade: "Well, I was wondering if you were interested in being a part of our Omegathon contest this year."
A very bouncy on the inside yet cool, calm on the outside: "Yes, I would love to!"

The conversation gets fuzzier after that as my "cool, calm" self started getting all excited and my brain started racing. Ah, yaye!

So, anyhow, I was so excited I had to tell my stories, and I invite the other Omeganauts to post their own stories and let us know a bit about you if you care to share.

I am Kyle Spradling, from Eugene. I'm mostly a computer gamer, and the few console games I have played have been roleplaying games, which I played via the emulator on my computer... So, I need to brush up on my console gaming skills. I have some friends who have many different console games, and they plan on putting me through one of those montage training programs like you see in movies. You know, like where someone needs to get really good at something so you see intensive, action-packed scenes of them quickly mastering a skill set to very intense, driven music.

Yeah.

Hahaha, thanks man :) I appreciate it. And, yes, but I'm going to be joining up in Portland. However, if things go according to plan, some friends of mine will be joining you in Eugene and traveling up with you. I do not believe that they have room, but if so and they're interested in sharing, I'll send 'em your way.

Bionic Monkey: Not necessarily. Remember, people can decline. Also, Gabe and Tycho will probably try to contact the original people drawn at least a couple times. To top it off, I could have been one of the first few called. So don't get your hopes up yet, friend :)

P.S. Woohoo! I'm so excited that I'm shaking like a cheerleader in a meatlocker.

Ninja edit: CorpseRT: Well, seeing as he lives in the same city as me he will have a big chance to hunt me down to catch me... I better watch my back =P

My call came in similar fashion. 2:55 PST. My cell rang while in the middle of a bought of Guitar Hero, with "Private Number". Like Quethal's call, it was a familiar voice and once Gabe said who he was everything became clear. It was the longest few seconds of my life between the "Are you still going to PAX?" and "Would you like to compete in the Omegathon?".

After my heart began beating again I of course said yes. After a few parting words I hung up and took several minutes to collect my thoughts and decide if the call was real or not. By the looks of it, it was.

Ive wanted to go to PAX the last two years but college and/or money has kept me, being able to come to my first PAX as an Omeganaut is unreal. The group of friends Im going with are already planning my training schedual, I believe one is even getting me a pink jumpsuit for my Punch-Out! training lol.

Im still in a bit of shock now 7 hours later and wondering how Im going to be able to sit still at work for the next month, I expect that I will come down off this high around the time Child's Play ends this year. For now Im ending the night with a fitting movie. The Wizard. I hope to hear the other Omeganaut stories. Looking forward to seeing you all at PAX.

Hahaha! I like and commend your pink jumpsuit idea! I wish I had thought of it first. =P Anyhow, congratulations, fellow Omeganaut! And remember, even though we are better than the rest of the PAX'06's, we still must keep ourselves humble in their presence so as not to unsettle them.

No, I'm not full of myself =P, this is just a carryover from PAX'04 with Gabe introducing the Omeganauts by saying, "Yes, they are better than the rest of you."

Now I can't wait to see what games it'll be!!! I think it was CTishman who suggested that Diceland will still be first, and Guitar Hero for the equivalent of DDR and Karaoke, which I hope is true. Other than that, I like Doubledash, and I hope they keep it for this year. Counter Strike: Source would be great, as I'm a big fan, and I wish they would do the original Doom again as I'm a huge fan. But, that won't happen, so ah well.

No e-mail yet, and we probably shouldn't expect it until about Friday. It could come earlier, but I can't see it getting to us before Wednesday. They'll probably announce that they're working on getting the whole Omeganaut thing figured out either in a news post tomorrow, or in Wednesday's post, and then they'll have the final names up on Friday.

You need to start practicing on shooters ASAP, unless you're a Fragdoll or something. It's so depressing to see the competition turn into a 100% sausagefest after the FPS round (which I've taken to calling the Ladykiller Round) every goddamn year.

Actually, come to think of it, talking to the Fragdolls or Clan PMS might not be a bad idea. See if they'd be willing to help you with FPS training, for the chance of seeing a woman proceed beyond that round.

I got my call from Khoo, at around one in the afternoon. I was actually on the highway when I received it. It was a brief affair -
"Are you still going to PAX?"
    "But of course."
"Do you still want to be in the Omegathon again?"
"Most definitely. Do you know what the games are gonna be?"
"I think they're up on the schedule already."
    "Oh wow, really?"
"Wait, I lied. It's not up. First round is going to be Diceland again, though."
"What a shocking turn of events."

Good luck, everyone! It's pretty nerve-wracking, and intense, but is still a lot of fun. My only goal is to not go out first round - that would be terribly embarrassing, to get second one year and not even clear Diceland the next.

::kicks self in head:: I COULD have been one, but I didn't answer the call. I received a Private Call (I can probably count the number of "Private Call" calls I've received in the 3 years I've had this phone # on both hands) at 6:40PM Eastern, but I didn't answer it because I was on the other line going through some computer troubleshooting with one of my clients (I'm an I.T. Nah man, don't worry. I doubt they'd be calling people that late, and again, it came up as "Private Call" for us, not "Restricted." So, don't worry over it :)
