Also playing an Ogre in EQ was so much fun. You got such absurd str it was crazy. I'd make an Ogre warrior starting off with like 128 strength. And after the Luclin graphical update, they looked 100x better.

    oh my god brownies

didn't they hang around wood elf lands? man those were gorgeous even though the trees were all made of 4 polygons each
yeah! they hung out in and around lesser faydark, the fuckers

I remember when I got my treeform spell as a druid I would just hang out in the forest disguised as a tree until somebody came running around where I was and then I'd start spinning around like crazy

got so much pleasure out of that

i remember one day i was strolling through the faydark with my ogre SK, Kagok

i guess we noticed the similarities in our names because we both stopped and looked at each other funny for a second before we started beating the shit out of each other

i won, just barely (thank you Harm Touch) and at the end there were various wood elves standing around watching us

You want to hear the saddest thing? In the months leading up to my deployment to Iraq (this was like 2003), the guild I was part of actually made serious progress raiding for all the pieces for the Vex Thal key. We spent months getting 40 something people keyed and it all wound up about three days before I had to get deployed.

I got to zone in one time and look at the entrance.

By the time I came back from Iraq, the guild had disbanded and I just couldn't go back.

If I could do one thing, it would be to take part in just one raid on VT.

I think you had to talk to one of those guys who would turn your PvP on

and then there were the PvP servers where it was always on after 10... Tallon Zek, Sullon Zek, some other Zek...

I think they had a hardcore server too where when you died your character got deleted or something

if it was a pvp server anyone could attack anyone as long as you were on different factions I think (though I don't know how it worked if a troll or something killed a bunch of orcs to make elves like them)

or you could give your book of discord to that priest dude and attack other people

In Planetside I was able to take the Mesquito and fly just a few feet off the ground making 90 degree turns in the trees and run up behind enemy trucks and strafe the hell out of them, then once I'd taken too much damage pop right up over the wall of one of their fortress and jump out right into a doorway.

Fallout you and I are EQ buds. I got my Enchanter (hell yeah, crack whores) to like level 34 and that was it. Spent the rest of my 2 years playing the game seeing how far I could get in ridiculously high-level areas without dieing. My greatest achievement was making it to Western Wastes. The place in Velious beyond Siren's Grotto (fuck how do i remember these names) with uber dragons just wandering around like it ain't no thang.

I was such a leech too. Getting friends in high level guilds and just going with them for runs to get dragon faction and cool items that would've rotted anyway.

    haha yeah i begged a lot too. played the game for like a year or more and never got anywhere D;

The western wastes and Velious ring bells... hrmn

and now i remembered another area, it was big and mostly flat i think and there were human buildings scattered here and there. rivers too, and treants. i know that's super vague but oh god this is going to annoy the hell out of me

i think i'll bring my EQ strategy guide with me on the trip to the museum (oh god i am such a nerd)

in parting, you can all listen to our favorite EQ sound again right hurr

Yeah, those were rad. I loved the tailgunner position on those things. Also I would get the small assault tank and back up into the Galaxy and they would do a low flyover and drop me right on the base.

    Planetside

So fantastic when it came out

Bridge battles! Bombing stuff from above! Running people over with tanks!

Then you realized how empty and bland and hollow everything was and the enjoyment went away alongside the playerbase

    but man

    man

a 200 people raid on a base with your squad in the middle of it was fantastic if you got your teamplay down right. And I happen to type this while listening to the lettuce song, so now I really want an MMOFPS (a good one) to play with the lettuce song in the background.

We used to form up at the Terran base with all of our vehicles and troops in formation, rows & rows of tanks, trucks, buggies, have all of the planes grounded to the rear while everyone loaded up, then all the galaxies would lift off with mesquito escort, then the bombers would fly behind the ground armor and of course once we went through the portal the whole formation fell apart but man did it look cool as hell.
