Greetings Vancouverite PAX Attendees and Our Nearby American Neighbours.

Like most of you we're getting anxious just waiting around for PAX to happen, and accordingly we decided to make it feel like it's happening even earlier. We're planning a few Pre-PAX Events in Vancouver BC over the next two and a half weeks , if you live in or around Vancouver you're welcome to, nay expected to attend at least one.

In addition at the request of a few of our American neighbours in Blaine, Bellingham and other points south, we are holding one of our meet-and-greets on the Wednesday before PAX. Once again everyone is welcome to attend, however please notify us if you plan to attend in advance if possible.

EVENT LISTINGS:

FIRST ANNUAL NINJOWNED NEEDS POTSTICKERS DINNER - WEDNESDAY AUGUST 27th
FIRST ANNUAL PAX FTW (FOR THE WINGS) NIGHT - WEDNESDAY AUGUST 27th

Event Organizer: AbsintheMinded (unless I can schlep it off on someone else).
A Pre-Pre-PAX gathering on the eve of all the Pre-PAX festivities in Seattle.

A chance to meet and greet our southern neighbours, show them our colourful city, and teach them all the words that they should be adding a U to. Also Ninjowned will be going to Hons for potstickers.

Agenda thus far (more to be added as people ask to have it added):
Dinner at Hons on Robson: 6:00pm
Wings at Wings (Yaletown): 8:00pm

A Tourist Tour through Vancouver may be added to this event depending on how many people show an interest in actually doing touristy stuff. I’m available all day on Wednesday so we can start earlier in the day. Post will be edited if we expand the agenda.

Alternative Wing Night for people who can't attend the one on Wednesday the 22nd. If needed.

================================================

GUITAR HERO NIGHT @ YALETOWN BREWHOUSE - THURSDAY AUGUST 21ST

Put me down for Potstickers/Wings :D

PS. Thanks for organizing, Absinthe! ^.^

EDIT: Also, I previously mentioned there may be BYOB at Jimz. That is not true, apparently that only applies to his friends :S (seriously, there is often drinking there, but apparently we can't). That being said, the Golden Spike Pub is right next door. We can drink before, but we can't be "shitfaced" (his words), we can drink after, whatever. I'm not much of a drinker, so unless someone speaks up I'll assume this situation is fine. Also, what do we want to play? I'm down for some CoD4, Halo 3, or TF2...

EDIT2: I believe MustardTiger is confirmed for Jimz on the 22nd.

Well I'd imagine he doesn't have a liquor liscence and for that matter he wouldn't be able to check ID's legally anyway (due to the aforementioned lack of registration with the liquor board, he's considered unqualified in their eyes). Accordingly he'd be hella liable if someone underage was drinking there... so I'm not surpised he limits it to people he knows personally. If I were him I wouldn't even be letting friends drink there. lol.

As for games I'm up for anything. I'm certainly not a hardcore gamer type so I'm not going to bitch and moan if its not a game I've mastered. I'm into what's going to be the most fun for a group.

And if anyone defies the wise words of Wil and acts like a dick, ruining the night for everyone... I will toss them in Burnaby Lake on the way home. 8-)

Hon's is DELICIOUS! Consider me interested for the time being, but I have to do a bit of planning first.

Also, oh Christ, burnaby lake... I did summer rowing training there two years ago, and it was one of the most hellish experiences of my life. SO.... MANY... WEEDS!

    Sounds good.

Hopefully as we go we'll be adding a few more things to Wednesday other than food and "food" with beer. Earlier in the day of course, before the stuff thats listed. We can still do any of the touristy stuff, or something else downtown. It all depends on what people show an interest in.

Whether its that Granville Island stuff, visiting the Ewok Village in Capilano Park, tricking people into walking up Grouse, scaring impressionable tourists by showing them the window displays on Davie Street, or visiting places like the Art Gallery or Museums... if at least two people say they want to do it I'll add it to the day's agenda, then others can sign up at their leisure.

And like I said in the OP you can come for all of it or just part of it... but I'll probably have to make reservations for the restaurant and pub so like mustard did here if you are only coming for one, let me know which.

And wings...though I dont know how many I'd be able to pack back so soon after dinner. But i'll definitely show up and drink your beer, if you cant finish :)

But I have no clue about Port Moody, I think thats like a 3 hour drive from where I live.

If someone did end up doing the whole 'Vancouver Tour' deal (providing it doesn't rain), I will happily supply some 'canadian' (aka maple flavored) snacks. I am a very awesome baker, its really too bad that I live alone.

And on that note I've updated the original post with the transit directions. lol.

Lougheed station (on the millenium line) is about 15 mins from Jimz. Just have to catch the 97 B Line from the station. If you can get to the Skytrain, its about 45-50 mins from Commercial Drive Station to Jimz Gaming Lounge. (At least according to translink, never been there yet myself).

If I'm correct it's also the area that they are adding the Evergreen Line to.... though thats not going to help for next week.

Hey you know anybody from Pt. Bob?

I can't believe it takes so long to get to Port Moody, is it traffic or am I missing something? I yahoo map'd it and it's almost twice the time it takes to get to downtown Vancouver, but it's closer o_O (from Blaine)

Probably speed limit differences.... and all the wild animals wandering onto the road. They only have one cop up there, his name is Jim. Jim is too busy protecting them against sasquatch invasion and doesn't have the time to help keep the traffic moving along quickly.

This is why I take transit.

We do prefer armour over armor. The extra letter adds more protection.

Yeah, I grew up going to school with a good hunk of everyone who lives/lived in Pt. Rob. I got out of HS three years ago though, and go to Uni out of province, but I still know a few people. My friends that still live here know more.

You know people who live there? Far as I knew, they were all pretty detached from the rest of the world.

Last year I drove in to Pt.Rob thinking it connected to the rest of the states. When i told the boarder patroller I was going to Seattle, he laughed at me, and let me through :( What a meanie!

Even from Twassassen, the drive should only take 1.5 hours. I live in New Westminster, I can get to the ferry terminal in 50 minutes if there's not super bad traffic. From my house its 15-20 to Jimz's location in Port Moody. So even if you add a bit of traffic, its still not that hard/long to get to.

If I didn't have a two year old daughter and no family close enough to babysit I'd be in.... oh well. Enjoy your evenings of gaming, food, etc.

The only people I keep up with right now that lived semi-near Blaine at one point I think is Doug Bourks, the rest crossed-boarder to attend my high school, though they should be all around your age, or a bit older.

Ah yeah im looking at a map now...I was thinking Port Moody via Vancouver but it looks almost more logical to go through Surrey...is that how you usually get to the ferries? Because I think when i went to Coquitlam , I went down Marine, but I think River Road looks quicker? But Im afraid to get stuck behind a slow-moving semi.
