What was your favorite game as a kid?

Granted "kid" means different things here because we have elder posters and young-in's and the like.

Anyway, I was born in 1980. And this was my favorite game as a kid:

Tink Tonk in the Land of the Buddy Bots!

bbfront.jpg

The link has a ton of information. Really fun game, though. Oh yes, it was a Mercer Mayer game, who was a big name in children's books/art back then. He did all those books like There's a Nightmare in My Closet and I'm So Mad and Just Grandma and Me.

I loved those books.

And I loved Tink Tonk in the Land of the Buddy Bots.

So what about you?

Also, does anyone else remember the above game? It had a map and everything:

Metroid as a real young person. Now it is a tie between Super Metroid and Earthbound. I wasn't exactly a kid then.

My favorite game as a kid was Shining Force 2 for the Genesis. I was like 11 or 12, and that was the first time I cared about an RPG. Although Mega Man 3 holds a very special place in my heart too.

My favorite was Secret of Mana because it let me play with my brothers for a long time.

But I annoyed the oldest with a song I would continuously sing while waiting for the glove to charge:

"Oh I wanna do the haaaadookennnn~
    YES SIR!
    YES SIR!"

    Repeated ad infintum.

    TAAASKMASTER

I have no idea where to find even a picture of it, but it was basically a roguelike with decent black-and-white graphics. My dad and I played it a ton while listening to The Who.

Born in 1986, played from the release onwards. This was the game when I was a kid. I had the SNES version at home, and during summers I was in this YMCA program type deal. Three times a week they went to the roller skating rink in town.

But fuck roller skating, they had fucking Mortal Kombat II! All my money was spent there. In addition, they also had X-Men, The Simpsons, TMNT and Super Street Fighter II.

God yes. There were like six months there where I'd play this game for hours and hours every day. I never got very good, but I still love it.

Pretty much the entire Mega Man series ruled my life and my friends' back in elementary. We were a group of maybe 4-5 boys and, all put together, we must have owned every NES MM as well as MMX. We'd just rotate them around the group and play Mega Man on recess. I mean that in the, you know how some kids play cops and robbers? Yeah, we played Mega Man. We made up a bunch of robots and we had epic sagas that pretty much lasted from 2nd to 6th grade.

We made stupid shit up, too. Stuff like Mega Moon. He was Mega Man's brother, see. Three guesses on which power he possessed.

Does "man-child" fit the definition for being a kid?

Anyway, doing favorites is always a pain in the ass for me since there are so many games I just love and there are so many different variables to take into account...but possibly the one the stands out the most for me is Mega Man Legends. 95% of people seem to hate it or write it off, but it just has so much wonderful flavor and character, and the whole Ruins aspect just has this awesome grand mystery thing going for it, and there were just so many things that just clicked together in just the right way that turned it into this lovely multi-million-dollar diamond in the rough.

    :Swoonful sigh:

Little League Baseball by SNK for the NES would have been my favorite game. Heck, it's still one of my favorite games. I was and still am very into baseball so this was really up my alley and fun as hell. Anyone who has played and loved Baseball Stars owes it to themselves to play this game.

I had a bunch of other good NES games but this one stands out above them all for me.

I played a lot of the typical NES games (Mario, Zelda, etc), but my favorites had to have been Ninja Turtles Arcade, Tecmo Super Bowl, and Contra. Shit, there were a lot more. I'm terrible at picking favorites.

When I got a Genesis my favorites were Desert Strike, Madden, Mutant League Hockey, and the Sonic games. Again, there were lots more...

However, I spent most of my time on the computer after that. Wolf3d, Doom, all the Janes-EA-Skunworks flight sims, Blake Stone, Duke 3D, Dino Tycoon, Aces Over Europe, Gunship 2000, X-Wing/TIE Fighter.... and on and on and on.

I told you I was terrible at picking favorites.

My favorite game as a kid? First of all, damn you. Second, this is too broad to pick one among all consoles. Even though I only had an NES and Sega Genesis as a kid (we would rent out an SNES every now and then).

NES - Super Mario Bros 3, or maybe Star Tropics 2, or maybe The Legend of Zelda
Genesis - Phantasy Star 4 (this is actually a superior RPG even to today's)
    SNES - Super Metroid

If middleschool years counts as being a KID kid, I guess my favorite Playstation title would be Bushido Blade 2.

Edit - Oh I forgot about the PC. The Dig / Full Throttle (I can't pick just one).
