London Meet-Up (Goodbye, UK) 8th - 9th November

edited November 2008 in Social Entropy++
So, folks, I am exchanging this green and pleasant (and very wet) land for sunnier climes on the 19th November.

Before that I would love to meet a few of you UK forumers in London. The last two meet-ups we had I feel were very successful and we had a fantastic time!

For anyone concerned about monetary costs, the meet-ups are usually kept fairly cheap. London is chock-full of free places to visit and for the majority of the afternoon/evening we find a pub to camp in and have a few pints. Last meet-up Rohaq organised a cheap hostel, too, which was a great option for those of us who wished to stay over until the next morning.

Who is interested? I'm hoping to ensnare a few of you who haven't attended the previous meet-ups (Silmaril!).

Date:

Weekend of 8th - 9th November

Possible attendees:

Me (definite)
MikeRyu (definite)
Junpei (definite)

Depends on price / date for me, but I'm tentatively up for it unless something goes horribly wrong with my finances.

I think that even with the hostel and breakfast last year I paid no more than £50, and I certainly would like to keep it cheap!

I wonder how much it is to get the train from Westhoughton to London.

Edit: £30 each way via Bolton + Manchester, that's rideable.

    £62.60, apparently.

I'm only 23! I don't think it's worth it for the trip -- getting £22 off a fare for the price of £24. I'd never use it again either.

    Just outside Bolton Town Centre.

Near where you come off the 666 to get into Bolton.

I live in sunny Bristol, so I could well scooch across for a day. Then again, I'm not really an SE++ type, so you'd most likely make me sit at a different table and throw peanuts at me.

I would, but considering I've only been posting here for like, a week, I'd feel a little awkward.

Also, London is pretty far away man.

it would be like late October, nothing final

and when I say slim, I mean slim

factors like time off work, whether my friend is able to have his crazy party around then or not...

But I'll keep a close eye on this thread on the off chance that I am around

I'm depending on getting a temporary job myself, really.

If I do, I can stand everyone a pint.

If I don't, I'll be just about able to afford the train fare and not much else. So either I'll keep it very, very cheap or I'll try to lessen costs by offering others help. :)

Tallus - London has worked well in the past. There are quite a few forumers who live in the south. I'll actually be back in Worthing (near Brighton) in a couple of weeks' time, and MikeRyu and a couple of other forumers actually live in and around London.

Plus, London has a lot of free museums and art galleries. We had a fun time at the Tate Modern at the first meet-up.

Also, one of my friends is really, really keen on going to London for my hen night (sigh).

I don't really want to do the whole usual stripper/clubbing deal (which she is pressing for) but I might combine the two, say, a hen night on the Friday/Saturday and a meet-up with you guys on a Saturday or Sunday, to save costs.

Hey, my friends might even come along too. And then at the very least, it'll be MikeRyu and a bunch of girls.

However - I'll be open to central. What are you thinking of?

My understanding of England is that of a small island with London being a massive city of egg shaped skyscrapers and clock towers, and surrounding it nothing but feudal villages and castles.

I was particularly throwing an alternative out there, since it's incredibly unlikely I'll be able to make it (fatherhood, lulz) but just curious as to how london was chosen :)
