The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
"For those of you unfamiliar with this function (which cropped up in COD4: Modern Warfare) kill streaks are awarded when you reach a specific number of kills without dying, and take the form of a special ability which you can utilize against your opponent. In Call of Duty: World at War, Treyarch will be offering something similar giving players special commands for killing multiple enemies.
Recon Plane (3 Kills)...
...Artillery Strike (5 Kills)...
...Unleash the Dogs (7 Kills)..."
Just to recap:
-For three kills you get a Recon plane to spot enemies for you.
-Five kills nets you an Art strike which more or less kills everything within the area of effect.
-Succefully getting seven kills in a row let's you...unleash the dogs of war?
I'm looking through my history books, not really finding anything mentioned about winning the war in the Pacific by sending wave after wave of killer dogs to break the Jap's backs.
I'm not expecting much from the singleplayer, but the multiplayer should be ok. All they're really doing is taking CoD4's excellent multiplayer gameplay and giving it a WW2 coat of paint.
Is it odd that I'm actually pretty interested in the game for just that reason? Something about having the CoD4 levelling, weapon unlocks and upgrades and perks system in a WW2 game really appeals to me. Weird.
I think I would have prefered a tank (or tanks) that comes blazing over a hill top, laying waste to everything on a randomly selected route as it cleaves it's way off the map.
Edit: Or maybe a close air support fighter, which makes strafing at targets on the map.

I have to say, I'm also reasonably sure that if a squad had asked for artilery support or a recon plane, they would not have been asked 'Have you killed 5 japs in a row without dieing yet?' But I guess that that is a bit less important.
I know what your talking about, but those are rockets, not jets.
fair does. I just dimly remember seeing a documentary about various devices and vehicles in the second world war, and that thing being on them. I still think it's hilarious.
Zombies won't make up for how shitty their game will be
And it will be
I have not forgotten Call of Duty 3
No, I don't think that's going to be the case, actually. Also, I have yet to understand why 3 is given the flak it is. But then, I also like Army of Two and Perfect Dark Zero. Take that for what you will.
I presume you're talking about World At War. Because IW is doing COD5, not Treyarch. This is one of those un-numbered titles in the franchise, like Finest Hour.
I've been playing the beta, and it's okay, but has nowhere near the polish of COD4. Granted, it's a beta, but it goes to retail in like two weeks, so I don't see how they're gonna close that gap. At the moment, it's no real threat to the heavy hitters on Live.
Aw man I'm way more excited for this than I should be. CoD4 with possibly UO style tanks and ZOMBIES!?
Now I just have to decide which platform. CoD4 was great on all 3 and I ended up playing it on 360 and PC (larger servers and better controls VS achievements, LIVE, and new maps earlier than the pc version). I'll probably end up picking it up for the PC to start with and if its made of awesome grab the 360 version early next year when its on sale.
Go 360. Even COD4 was crowded as hell on the huge PC servers, and it didn't have dogs running around. Being under constant artillery barrage and fending off wave after wave of pooches doesn't sound appealing.
Plus, matchmaking results in less douchebaggery than PC servers with hosts who kick anybody who knifes them in their sniper hideout.

Uh...? What the fuck kind of magic server did you find? Never in my CoD4 playtime did I run into a server that was not dedicated and usually no admins around, much less getting kicked for random crap.
The tanks look asbolutely terrible gameplaywise. I really can't see what's going to sell this over either Gears 2 or Resistance 2 on the consoles.

The tanks look absolutely terrible gameplaywise. I really can't see what's going to sell this over either Gears 2 or Resistance 2 on the consoles.
The tanks really aren't too much of a threat for a moderately coordinated team. Also, I pity the gunner, because sitting up there is basically asking to be transformed into raw hamburger.
So who else picked it up? I was a little disappointed that Zombie Co-Op, Nacht der Untertoten, is locked until you complete the solo campaign, but I got halfway through the campaign in a few hours, so it won't be long before I get to waste some twitching undead nazis.
I like most of the maps so far, except Seelow, which is just too freaking huge and basically tank heaven. I just go somewhere on the periphery and snipe. Taking out tanks is way too much effort and risk for too little reward.
Been using the Thompson mostly, to get that drum magazine as quickly as possible.
I must say also that I like the way the preorder gun was handled. It doesn't unlock the weapon for custom classes, and doesn't unlock any of the M1A1 challenges, it just replaces the weaker .30-cal version of the carbine on the default Rifleman class. So while it helps level the field in that initial rush to Level 4, few players are likely to use it once they have the ability to equip custom loadouts.
After playing a couple of hours multiplayer (and a lil single) I have to say this isn't another CoD3. This has the same great multiplayer as CoD4 but with WW2 weapons and the dogs are not annoying at all. In fact they are pretty easy to kill and don't seem to wipe teams out like the heli did in cod4.
If you played a ton of CoD4 and want more maps I highly suggest picking this up
I think I might pick this up. I've liked all past CoD games I've played (2 and 4) and this game has gotten pretty good reviews so far. Average of 90 from 12 sites on metacritic so far.
It's CoD 4 in ww2. But now with doggies, zombies, and coop.
Oh, Jack Bauer and Gary Oldman are also in the game. FUCK YEAH
OH, there is split screen coop. 2 players only offline.
The whole darker feel thing delivers. Japanese troops torturing captives, Germans shooting wounded, Americans giving wounded Japanese troops no quarter.
When you're given the flamethrower, you get unlimited ammo and a ton of chances to use it. And it is satisfyingly powerful.
While I was apprehensive about electronic/metal music playing in the background of a WWII game, it actually works and doesn't draw attention to itself. And do we need another soaring orchestral theme that sounds like Band of Brothers?
They make some attempts at evoking moments from COD4, and it generally works more often than it falls flat.
That said, I am already dreading my inevitable Veteran run through this game. Like COD3, there are some areas where I expected a checkpoint and there's none there. And the friendly AI troops that often helped out in COD4 are mostly decoration here. Not so bad on Regular, though. And the online is good so far. Except Seelow. Fuck that map.
I'm holding this game in my hands now. Is there enough for a PA clan list like there was for CoD4? Should I just use the CoD4 friend list? Should I just return this and play more CoD4?

I wonder if you'll be able to break the dogs necks when they try to maul you like the ones in cod4 singleplayer.
I would like dogs.
That would assume that it ever actually worked in CoD4
And this is the non infinity ward developed iteration. Were we actually expecting a semblance of quality?

If you can't live for the now, at least live for the future.
But is this within a certain time limit, or just plodding your way along without dieing?

What about the remote control explosive tanks?
Some of what they're doing I like, most of it I hate.

So terrible.
Have I been lied to again?
Look at that gametrailers video. The last little 'tick' in the timeline leads to the part where they show off the zombies.
And it will be

Plus...CoD3. Yeah. People say Treyarch have upped their game here, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Saw it earlier today.
Looks alright actually.

I don't suppose it has split screen coop?
Or indeed any split screen at all?

Meh. I'm going to go play Mirrors Edge.
