This is the first comic I saw that got me hooked on PA:
    20001127h.jpg

There's just a combination between the art and the meter of the writing that they have always been able to achieve. If you can read it and understand the pace at which the dialogue is delivered, it is amazing.

I don't remember my first, but I know that I definitely noticed (and have appreciated) how both Mike and Jerry have matured as artists in their respective crafts. Back in the day I might've felt a little nerdy saying that I read the Penny-Arcade webcomic, but now I consider the newsposts of Tycho Brahe some of the greatest prose on the subject and Gabe's art some of the greatest of any webcomic, across all genres. (Not 'greatest' per some fine art metric, but greatest in setting tones and doing whatever the fuck it needs to do.)

It's been a really productive ten years.

What's the internet record for regular webcomic posting? I don't think G&T have missed a single tri-weekly date, have they? They've been very disciplined, which is a great factor in making early success as a webcomic. I know I've given up on promising sites owing to their lack of consistency.

To my knowledge, they missed it once because Gabe's computer broke and they couldn't access the file. Once.

I think the record goes to User Friendly, which has been daily since November '97.

I used to read on-and-off because the way Gabe's nose was drawn really freaked me out. I always thought it unnatural. But I finally started reading it regularly after I saw this one last January:

    20070129.jpg

And I think I'll just add this one to the thread because of its glorious backstory:

Whichever one where Gabe whacks Tycho's head off with a Star Wars book (and, I believe, cries 'YOU SHUT YOUR FILTHY MOUTH AND NEVER OPEN IT AGAIN!'). Dyr and I reference that all the time, since he's a big Star Wars fan, especially when it comes to the books.

Also we would be remiss in looking back at 10 years worth of comics without mentioning the Christmas in September.

I think they had a week or two without an update when the original host went belly up. The next comic after they came back had Gabe saying 'Where have you guys been?'.

I remember how I came across PA.

I was looking for like, a java game website similiar to addictinggames.com, that at the time I thought was called pennyarcade.com Well I threw a dash in there and came across a lovely little comic. I wanna say I was a first semester sohpmore in high school at the time (so fall of 99) and I know The Bench was still on the main page (I can't believe Mike and Jerry don't have those archives). I distinctly remember doing this in some typing class the school mandated we take. I was hooked ever since, coming back 3 times a week to read my favorite 3 panel strip.

This is the first one I remember reading.
    19990924h.jpg

And I know no one will share this with me, but this is one of my more favorite comics. I can't explain why, I just love it.
    19990310h.jpg

So thanks, Mike and Jerry, for 10 years of entertainment.

And I JUST NOW noticed that Tycho is in Gabe's room going through his stuff when Gabe calls him.

I don't remember when I started reading regularly, but a former college roommate emailed me once with the subject line "Clever Disguise, Mr. Chan. But can you defeat my horde of Robo-Ninjas?"
    19990224h.jpg

When I asked him what that was a reference to, expecting some random martial arts flick, he sent me a link to the above comic. That's right, in 1999, my former college roommate introduced me to PA. You whippersnappers.

Also, I sometimes really miss The Bench. I don't remember who did them, but there were a series of bench strips featuring Mike Doughty that were fantastic. Also, I used to think Tycho looked like Damon Albarn.
