Is anyone else going as a pokemon character? I thought I read someone was going as team magma.
That would be me. As long as I can get it done, trying to finish up my primary costume and then will get started on my Team Magma outfit. I'll be rocking the Magma outfit on Friday, not sure when everyone else is rocking their pokemon costumes.
Less than a month! So excited!
Its good to see so many peoples outfits coming together!
Most likely I'll be going to PAX as Dawn on Friday also.
I'll be dressed up and ready to go as soon as I get there as I don't want to hassle with lugging the outfit if it's not on my body. The only thing I'm worried about if we have to make a pit stop somewhere along the road and I have to get out of the car (we live about two and half hours from Seattle) won't that be awkard!
I do plan on bringing along a little emergency sewing kit (needles, red thread, and fabric glue) incase something happens along the way.

Hrm, good call curse-ten...
At Anime Evolution in Vancouver, my costume was falling apart and I had no means of fixing it... do they make battery powered glue guns?
I have no idea, they might though, check Amazon, the only ones I know of need to be plugged in. Though surely there has to be plugins somewhere in the convention hall.
Red Spy reporting in! Now I just have to decide whether to base my costume on the game or on the videos. There are a lot of details in the video clips that the models in the game don't include. Obviously the in-game models are the most familiar and would be the simplest to reproduce. Decisions, decisions!
I'm also planning a limited-edition surprise for some of my fellow cosplayers.

They do make cordless glue guns. Check Michael's crafts.

Hi there. I am a photographer in Seattle and need a Zelda or Link cosplayer to model for the ZELDA CAR. I, along with a bunch of other people, chipped in and bought this amazing Zelda car off Craigslist a few months ago. It lives in Oregon currently but will be coming up for the PAX convention in September. We want to do a photo shoot with a Zelda or Link and the car like those hot rod magazines but with a Zelda touch. Know anybody?
Im looking forward to a little cos this year I didnt dress up last year but this year Im going to fix the travisty that is the rejection of Shipwreck from GI Joe the craptastic movie. So Im goin as shipwreck baby.

Hopefully it's not a knife in the back...
Haha! Only if you're blue...
Or maybe he's actually a blue spy disguised as a red spy...
Oh! that reminds me! I decided to make a cosplay/TF2 themed bonus button for all me fellow cosplayers.
Or at least the ones who come and tackle me for one first until I give them all away...
Will post here when I finalize the design.
I shall be Sho Minamimoto from It's a Wonderful World (I'll be shouting the Japanese lines instead of the English). I really would like to do Celsius from Tales of Symphonia, but I don't think I'll have enough time/money. Perhaps next year.

I'll probably be dressed as Nurse Joy all weekend (at least during the day, I'll probably change before the evening concerts) and I'll have my DS with me. To get a bonus button from me we have to have a pokemon battle
My costumes already done and it had a test run at ComicCon. It did really well there, except for the wig which I hate but I haven't been able to find anything better unfortunately I have too much hair for the wig to sit properly.
anyone have any suggestions as to how I can make my costume cooler/more breathable.
I was sweating like crazy at Anime Evolution. Although it was June and like 25 celcius outside. But the building was air conditioned.
Also, is PAX air conditioned?
Hmm better post another pic to people know what my costume looks like:
The main temperature problems I had were in the boots (shin-high, synthetic leather, cotton lining) the jacket (cotton? with cotton stuffing, almost warm enough to be a winter coat) and the gloves (industrial grade chemical gloves)
I was thinking of putting little slits in the gloves just so there's some air flow. Not sure what to do about the boots or jacket though.
hey guys i think ill bring back my Leeroy Jenkins Cosplay... its been through a bit to many raids but i think it can bear to handle PAX. ill even bust out my Blackhand Doomsaw
Kinda because i didn't actually take any pictures that day =P But i'll get around to taking some pictures soon. Or maybe I'll just show up at PAX and make other people take pictures of me Either works for me and the second option takes less effort on my part.

Hmm... Sadly I'm going to end up having to be a blue spy (red spy as blue spy!?) because it's impossible to find fabric for the red spy's suit that doesn't just end up looking like a pink suit. The pinstripes and the desaturated color are what distinguish it from just a pink suit and I can't find anything even close to that. So, I've caved and bought blue fabric instead. C'est la vie. You can never have too many spies... right? right? guys?
I will have a functioning Medigun this time around.
'course I do! My TF2 buddies from AE!
Haha excellent!
My medigun fell apart shortly after AE...
So I'm making a new one. (hopefully will be done by pax)
Gonna make it a kritz gun though... and also aiming for a needle gun or a saw so I still have a prop if I decide to give me fun a rest...
The Link kinda reminds me of Pikmin Link. Look her up on google since I don't feel like posting a picture. It'd be great if she came along, I don't know who the Zelda is but she also looks nice.

That is in fact Pikmin Link, but I had no idea she was around in '08 (or anytime since '06, really). The other girl is "The Princess Zelda" from Cosplay.com, I believe!
Yeah its Pikmin. I found her website yesterday and emailed, but haven't heard back yet. I will look around on Cosplay.com and see if I can find the Zelda, though I won't post a thread about the photos or I might be deleted into next week!
So I'm getting into the "Dr. Manhattan" costume and I'm considering adding a glow to the blue paint on my head and hands. I've never even considered this until now. Does anyone have any experience with body paint/glow paint/glow powder+paint...?
really I just want to make sure it doesn't melt off my head in the hot convention.
can someone tell me where i can find an army helmet? i have the rest but yeh. I live in marysvill washington, so i need to know if i can find one near

My guess you might get lucky at a flea market or something, I live in Chehalis and we have Yardbirds which sells all kind of knick knacks, another idea is to check Ebay (this might be your best bet) or perhaps asking around might net you something.
Ozzie, I'm currently scanning the internet for what might help you. Here's a passage you might like...
"All other forms of She-Hulk require body paint or a full body unitard. Body paint requires another set of hands to apply it to the hard-to-reach areas. I’ve searched the Cosplay forums looking for the best body paint. Reading everyone’s opinions and looking at their costume results, I’m going to recommend Aquacolor. I have no first hand knowledge of body paint, but this seems to have consistent results and easy application. There are liquid paints for use in air brush guns if you’d prefer. Also consider using a setting spray."
It seems there are paints for adding a glow but I'm not too sure how it reacts, I do backstage work for theater and I heavily suggest to stay out of any heavy direct lighting, not only will your makeup react to it but you'll start sweating like crazy, you should see how shocked some of the newer actors get when they go through a practice with the stage lights on.
Probably if you want to best keep the makeup on you'll have to get the higher end stuff than what you can get at a party store. Also isn't Dr.Manhatten all blue? And isn't he naked? Isn't that a lot of paint?
Check out this wonderful Yorda and her body paint, it looks real good.
"Taken at the Oregon State Capitol Building in Salem. Thanks to the staff who let us photograph in the courtyards, and to Chibi, my Ico, and our lovely photographer!
(Fun fact: All that glowing, perfect porcelain skin was achieved by a thick layer of Ben Nye White #01. It scatters light like crazy and looks magnificent on film...and feels like I've been coated in putty. Or peanut butter. Noooot so ethereal an experience.)"
When i looked up Ben Nye it seems it's the kind of makeup clowns wear. So they might have blue in and they might have something you might like, sorry if this information isn't too helpful.
That was very helpful actually. I'm only doing my head and hands but I plan to be out and about all day. So going for a higher quality paint makes sense. Also i would be interested to hear what people use to set the paint. Aqua net comes to mind but I'm not sure I want that aimed at my face, nor would it feel too awesome. As a man, I lack make-up skills. (or truthfully, make-up knowledge)
I want to know, would it be legal to bring a shovel for my costume? i know its a convention center, thats why i ask

Sheer powder, then a mixture of 8-9 parts water with one part glycerin in a spray bottle spritzed lightly to set it. You can get glycerin at some drug stores.
The shovel question might want to be asked at the FAQ thread, I don't know what kind of items are allowed, I'm pretty sure fake weapons wouldn't be allowed but I have no idea about a shovel.
