Where did everyone get this idea that I'm filthy rich or something?
I've said it before, I'm NOT filthy rich, just upper class. I don't have billions, or even many millions, lying around to burn. I imagine this idea came about from me talking about various investments.
And that statement about how much I've lost? You need to remember that that is EVERYTHING. That's 12 years of accrued capital. It's not like I could make up those kinds of loses in a year or anything crazy like that.

Well there was that post last year, back when the credit crunch did really hit hard. Something about "my portfolio has lost over $500,000 in the last couple of months, I got out of the market before things got really bad, and that was only a bit of it, but still..."
$500,000 is more than a lot of the people here will make over the course of ten years. A fucking decade of their lives man...

one time I logged into Neopets and my stock I bought like 3 years ago was up into the 6-figures
We scaled back on the renovations as much as we could. I was going to have a beautiful new oven, but I am keeping the old one. We were going to have two chimneys and fireplaces in the living room, now we are just having one.
