Invincible is off fighting the Viltrumite War, so who's watching the shop while he's away? GUARDIANS OF THE GLOBE, a new six-issue miniseries coinciding with INVINCIBLE: The Viltrumite War, tells Earth's story.

In GUARDIANS OF THE GLOBE -- cowritten by superstar Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead, The Astounding Wolf-Man) and Benito Cereno (Invincible Presents: Atom Eve, Invincible Presents: Atom Eve & Rex Splode) and drawn by gifted newcomer Ransom Getty -- heroes both familiar and new struggle to protect Earth in Invincible's absence.

I'm so glad that it's going to be a real book :). Here's hoping that Robot and the Immortal are on the team. And a clone of Rex Splode.

Yeah. It's cool how Image did the fun stuff and then are going to back it up with some actual info. A really clever marketing ploy too.

Did Books of Magic come out before Harry Potter? I want to say it did, but I can't remember ever looking at the dates on my trades, and I have no idea when Harry Potter actually began.

This is still a joke, right Kirkman?

    Right?

Seriously, I love Brit, but that suit just looks weird. It's like something a superpowered mechanic would wear.

Oh, the art's great. But between the open collar, nametag, and bright orange, it looks more like a jumpsuit than a superhero uniform. However, I'm strongly hoping that those boots and gloves have rockets in them, as I suspect they do, to propel Brit's invulnerable fists and feet into enemies. Because that'd be awesome.

So I just purchased Invincible The Ultimate Collection Volume 1 with my amazon gift card. Am I to expect great things? Cause I'm really excited as I hear this series is top shelf.

Do you not know what happens in Ultimate Collection Volume 1? If you don't, then you need to stay the hell away from any discussion of Invincible until you get the book.

Maybe Kirkman is still trying to parody the Marvel teasers and the quote is SUPPOSED to make you groan?

Some speedsters go with the Mercury wings, some speedsters go with the lightning bolt. But no, she decides to combine the two. I like the costume, but agree that the quote's kind of lame.

Not a bad costume though. Not great, but not bad. And Speeders are always useful in a team.

I expect Wolfman to be dead by the time Guardians of the Globe starts, but I'd like to see him on the team if he survives. A lot people hated on that book, but it's been good, B-movie fun since it started.

I think it's more Kirkman thought "Hey, that's a really cool idea to promote the book, but I don't want to look like I'm copying it so instead first I'll parody it and then copy it"

The quality's had a dramatic uptick ever since Wolf-Man started using a jetpack to fight monsters and supervillains.

    No Furu, that's still Hit-Monkey.

Unless Kirkman puts a monkey on Guardians of the Globe, in which case I may reconsider. Actually, thinking about it right now, I really believe Kirkman could be the guy to bring back the idea of super-pets being part of superhero teams. That seems right up his alley.

My daddy didn't learn me no better.

And based on concept, design, and story potential alone, I'd agree that Kaboomerang trumps Hit-Monkey. But Hit-Monkey's still a monkey, and therefore wins.

One thing I really like about these promo images, in comparison to the Avengers ones, is that they're just a lot more kinetic, and make better use of depth and perspective than the ones drawn by McKone or Romita. I think the Marvel ones all looked a little flat in comparison.
