I just love the sheer number of natural 1s and 2s we've been able to roll. I have a +14 to hit, but don't worry, Invisible Castle will guarantee that THAT doesn't happen
Narrowly dodging a blade, Lucan unleashes a massive store of energy. Two of the Krebain see it coming, but the warrior is too close to the wizard and takes a large burst of fire to the face.
Sorry about the late post. I was away this weekend.
Melf lets out a wry laugh at Duragon's plight, for a brief moment reveling in the irony of a hefty dragonborn being laid low by wolves, however this is followed by the realization that Duragon probably doesn't have any tricks to get himself out of trouble.
Dipping a bolt tip in a lightly bubbling concoction, Melf quickly lets loose a loaded shot at the wolf, causing it to forget all about worrying the dragonborn and instead concentrate on the pain of acid burning flesh.
Not a cruel gnome by nature, Melf slides in quickly and, clicking a small toggle into place on his crossbow, moves in for the merciful kill. A humming bolt in the eye socket sees the grey wolf slump to the ground.

Duragon barely had time to register that he was suddenly surrounded before the wolves tore into him. He felt one of their jaws sink into the scales of his calves before he was suddenly on his back.
Growling as the beasts tore into him, he fended them off as best he could, wedging his blade in the open mouth of the first wolf as it went for his jugular. The wolf snarled, tossed its head, and then made to pull back before a bright burst of acid blossomed across its left flank.
The air was suddenly filled with the smell of burning fur. The gray wolf let out a pained howl that cut short as a crossbow bolt slammed straight into its skull and slammed to the ground.
Finally free of the pack's flanking ability, Duragon swept his blade low to scare the other beast off as he pushed himself to his feet. "You have an odd sense of humor," he muttered to the gnome, back to back as the chaos of battle raged around them. Narrowing his eyes, he suddenly lunged forward. Calling the might of his deity to him, letting the anger and lust for combat quench all other consideration, he cleaved down at the closest wolf.
The canid managed to avoid a fatal blow, but Duragon's blade bit into its flesh all the same. Crumson spurted from a gash in its side, matting the gray coat. Again, the cleric seemed to draw strength from the battle, as if the killing and the violence were his bread and wine.
Makar staggered backwards as a localised cyclone sprung from the Mage's claw and pushed him back across the dirt. The moment the winds dided down however he was sprinting back at the bird, hammer held high and screaming in incoherent rage, the only words discernable in the foaming ranting being "KORD!" and "SMASH!"
In summary, KM is now;

Dain moves to the side of the Krebain facing him, & his axe cuts him down cleanly. His follow-up strike leaves something to be desired, missing the other henchman.

The beams hit both men and ice starts to form over their bodies.
"Looks like those books paid off," he boasts smugly.
His crossbow still humming with arcane power, Melf unleashes another exceedingly accurate bolt from his crossbow, this time dropping one of the Krebain menacing Dain in a single, clean shot to the eye.

Shifting his position to put himself between Lucan and the advancing wolf, Duragon gave a snarl to match the canine's and swiped his blade in a quick downward stroke.
The wolf, already wary after the first blow, dodged quickly out of the way, dancing across the grass as it bared its fangs.
you forgot makar, but it's ok, he won't be hitting the Sneak, so i'll go...
Seeing the sneaky Krebain immobilized, Dain smiles compassionately for a moment. "Sorry lad. Just, ye know, ye tried to stab me in the back a few times."
The krebain's body crumples under his attack, and he hurries to aid his allies.
The two remaining Krebain look for possible exits and try to flee, but the mage finds his feet frozen to the floor by Lucan's spellcasting. The remaining warrior runs to his aid but they are unable to get his feet free in time.
The wolf, however, is by now maddened with rage and tears a chunk from Duragon's arm as the dragonborn defends himself.

Sensing that the mage is near death, Lucan fires two bolts of kinetic energy at the Krebain. His feet frozen in place, the mage can do nothing but stare the attack with suprising courage as the bolts hit him and slam him to the ground. The mage did not try to stand again.
Melf moves quickly to finish these stragglers off; he steps in behind the last warrior and punches him in the kidneys (possibly, but who knows with Krebain) with his gemfist. You hear a sound like screeching metal as he does so, the arcane sting of the hit putting the warrior off balance.

Disengaging swiftly from the wolf that continued to tear at him, Duragon backpedaled out of range.
Raising his weapon in one hand, he turned to point at Makar with the other, calling to mind one of the ancient commandments of Kord as he did so. "You! Paladin! Kick their teeth in!" he paraphrased.
Standard Action -> Move Action: Shift to O12 Move Action: Shift to O11 Minor Action: Healing Word on Makar
Makar reeled from the mage as it's lack of mobility failed to stop it summoning another flock of birds to plough straight at him, tiny razor beaks somehow finding all the joints in his armour. He cleared the feathers from his eyes just in time to see the mage watching in mute impotent horror as the magic bolt crumpled him to the ground.
Turning to see who had been plinking off his armour from behind, he found the last remaining Krebain already set up in a the perfect flanking position from the ever tactically aware Melf. As he drew strength from Duragon's blessing he breathed a sigh of relief, the clean up time had started.
The last Krebain falls under your weapons, and you scan the forest for reinforcements. The last few were definitely trying to get to the leafy depths as you cut them down, but between heaving breaths you take as you recover your strength you hope that they were the only ones out here.
The boy stares at the carnage in utter disbelief. "You killed them all. Shakor will be livid when he finds out. We should get out of here." He looks a little afraid of you, but does not stray far from the sides of the two big dragonborn, perhaps reasoning that he'll be safest between the two biggest and scariest people he can find.
As you gather yourselves after the battle you hear a low thrumming in the air, as if the string of a lyre is being plucked again and again. You look around at each other in confusion. Where's it coming from? Lucan closes his eyes and focuses his concentration as he tries to divine its source. What is it?
Then, as one, Anwar and Lucan both turn their faces up to the sky and point to the far west. Up in the sky you can see something extraordinary. A three-masted galleon, as large as any ship you've ever seen, sails through the sky above the westerly horizon. Its prow cuts through low clouds and its sails billow with the full strength of the wind behind it. Scudding along as though it cut through the calmest waters, it heads towards the city of Khare.
The boy, you notice, has seen it to, and though he seems nervous of it, isn't surprised. A choice is upon you. The city still waits on the horizon, and the forest, with the mine somewhere inside, still waits to the east.
220xp all round, and an extra 20xp for Dac for a really nice RP post in the middle of all the combat. This time round I will arbitrarily reward RP posts I like just for the hell of it.
Healing surges and so forth should now be taken. History checks on the airship may prove illuminating.
Watching the galleon sail overhead, Melf tries to think back; something about this seems more than a little familar; maybe from something he once read during a particularly boring shift of Quartermaster duty for the Earl of Garibund's Light Mutileers.
A little put out by the boy's immediate lack of faith in the new team's performance, Melf feels his age for a moment, and remembers back to when he was a scared little fool like....damn it, did he tell us his name yet? Melf stares blankly at the kid, and decides to pretend he doesn't need to know it. He sends a mild case of stink-eye at the boy as he cowers behind the wall of scales.
"Kid, if you learn nothing else from that fight, which I am extremely certain is the most professional fight that you have seen in your life, make it this: smart fighters beat cruel fighters every time."
Melf has been around a while, but he's certain he's never seen anything like this. He does remember reading about something like this, however. In the Saga of Rannulf, a gnome wizard of much repute among his people, such vessels are mentioned as being used for commerce and adventure. The Saga of Rannulf was written over five hundred years ago, and no such ships have been seen in your lands since. The few that sailed the air were destroyed or simply disappeared.
If they are as common here as the boy's lack of surprise suggests, you are indeed a long way from home.
“You guys fought smartly?” chuckled Lucan in surprise. “I thought we were just going for the, ’hit anything that looks at you funny’ approach.”
“If you had at least clued me in to our strategy, perhaps Dain wouldn’t have gotten in the way of my spell.”
Looking at the boy, Lucan could tell that his ‘humour’ was not having the intended effect.
“Relax kid, if we had wanted to hurt you, we would have just handed you over to them. Now it looks like we’ve done you a favour by not handing you over, so perhaps you could clue us in on that monstrosity in the sky”
Lucan studied the craft, trying to recall if he had read any books about the machine that sailed overhead.
The ship appears to slow as it reaches the city in the distance. It appears to dock at what you thought was a tower, but which, after what you've just witnessed, may well be some sort of specialised building designed to accept the airship.
Drumming his fingertips against his chin, Melf considers the information at hand. "Y'know lads, I once read about this sort of thing...flying boats, that is, but only in books. By my reckoning, its been at least five hundred years since something like this has existed."
"Those Krebain, same with those fellas too. Haven't heard tale of them since I was a little tacker, so I figure we got two possibilities here. One is that the mirror just took us to some other place where they still are, or maybe went to." He eyes the group to see how readily this oddball theory is accepted, and pushes the boundary a little further.
"Second thought is maybe we're back in the past in our own world, in which case I hope you all know who your daddy is so you don't kill yourself by accident. This kid here...", he says, gesturing at the scared little boy, "...could be your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great granddaddy, Anwar." At this potential shocking revelation for the half-elf, he grins widely in anticipation of the inevitably entertaining response.
"Oh?" Anwar scratches his chin, the little figurine doing the same. "That means, if I kill him, then I will become immortal!" Anwar glares at the child and causes a collection of chaos to gather at his fingertips. The figurine on his shoulder rolls around and silently laughs.
Duragon spent a couple minutes after the battle cleaning his blade of the krebain's blood. He noted with a half-hearted sigh that the battle had managed to work another nick into the fine edge, and thumbed the mark idly as the others spoke.
He tilted his head towards the airship as he batted Anwar across the back of the head for being an ass with a heavy, gauntleted palm. "Wherever we are, the first thing we should do is get the kid somewhere safe," he rumbled and gestured towards the buildings in the distance. "That's a large city. There's got to be somewhere we can take him where he won't be found by the slavers again. After that, maybe we can find where the mirror took us, and maybe come back here to look into this mine business."
Spending two healing surges to take Duragon up to 35/35 hp

Anwar
"Have you ever tried balut? It's a disgusting concept."
Chaos Power: +1 AC SNT
Healing surges and so forth should now be taken. History checks on the airship may prove illuminating.

History: 1d20+11 = 29
Arcana: 1d20+13 = 32
also spending a surge (4/6 remaining) to get to full HP, and preparing another Healing Infusion during the short rest (now a total of one)
If they are as common here as the boy's lack of surprise suggests, you are indeed a long way from home.
