I applied for job in a different department at the same employer, but I have no idea how much of a raise I should ask for. I'm guessing I should just treat it as if I was applying to any other outside job and ask for 10-20% over my current salary.
It's like a zebra deer. but with a razor sharp wit and attitude
oh hey, jorb thread. My new job is going pretty well... definitely something I don't want to stay at forever, but something that's going to hold us over for the meanwhile, and great experience while I'm there.
What is/are okapi? I have never heard of them, you are just making that up to try and dazzle me with your supposed zoological knowledge.
By the time you typed that on the forum, you could have google searched it. Just saying.
Maybe I was making conversation!
It's ok I am always down for talking about animals! but Mr Buttons is pretty close. It's actually closer to a giraffe than deer. It looks like a deer with zebra stripes. And it can shoot mind bullets. They are pretty rare, we only have something like 200 in zoos (don't quote me).
also- I will be learning how keepers feed lions, but we dont actually give them any live animals.
This is much more exciting to me than my real job and tomorrow I find out if I am accepted for that baller internship.
What's the job market like in Vancouver at the moment? (Not good if Mully's experiences are anything to go by, I guess)
My wife will be looking for a job when we get there in a few weeks, probably something temporary and possibly part time. Our plans were just to get some recommendations on temp agencies and see how she fares, is that the best way to go about it?
There are lots and lots of temp jobs here right now - seen a lot of part-time, as well. Try talking to Spherion - they were the best, I found. Also, Kelly Personnel.
If going through craigslist.org, make sure you write a cover letter even if it's only for a recruiter - sometimes even they will ignore you if you don't.
In other news: working on a logo & site design for a band - one of the things they thought their logo should have is "oriental mystique" -- any CLUE what that means? ahahah.
Awesome, thanks Mully, it's good to hear there are lots of temp jobs available then.
In other job news, my Dad just gave me a raise even though the company isn't exactly flush with cash. Now I feel even worse when I'm not productive.
We're also trying to figure out how they're going to assign work to me when we're in different hemispheres and timezones; anybody know any good multi-user web based software for keeping lists of tasks and giving them priorities, etc?
Uh ... outlook? Ahahaha. So in other words, no, I guess not. I depend on my Outlook calendars, I have a few, and share out particular ones and let other folks have the ability to update that. Pretty sure you can do that with tasks in Outlook as well?
Oh! Ten! Check out my website - i loaded it up last night (click le sig)
It's not the one you helped with though -- funny thing is this one runs great in IE6, Firefox, Safari, on my iPhone ... but iE8 hates its guts. Shrug.
Yeh, Outlook isn't really an option since most of our machines don't have Windows, plus I imagine you need an Exchange server for a lot of the fancier sharing stuff (I might be wrong though)
We'll probably stick with RequestTracker which we've been using for a while for customer support, it's kinda clunky though
The site looks great mully! Congrats on getting it working in IE6, the devil's web browser. And that is really strange about IE8, since I thought MS had been getting more standards compliant, hrm.

Interview went well.
Possibly have a job.
Won't pay, though.

Anyway I think I did an alright job in my interview Monday. However I was never directly asked any questions until I asked some of my own at the end of my time there, which was odd to me.

Kinda. It's an externship.
Which means I get class credit for it and pay the school money.
All the fun parts of having a job with none of the money.

I think I'm the only person in the world who actually likes working retail. I mean yeah dealing with assholes sucks but most people aren't assholes. most people are nice. and I kind of like nice people.
working in an office though...just the idea of it makes me want to slit my wrists.

oh my god yes
the problems are different but nowhere near as bad
Like you're in a fiery lake of acid either way, but retail is like an extra pitchfork up the ass. Sideways.

At least at the office you can steal supplies and there's usually a chick with big tits to stair at.
