started with the 1100, then I got a 77 Super Glide.

Then a soccer mom figured stop signs didn't apply to her.

how tall are you? did you find the size/weight to be manageable?

i don't really have access to any bigger bikes and i've never driven anything bigger than a 450.

the one thing i worry about is other people, i have confidence in myself as a rider, just not in the general public.

Crotch rockets are deadly pieces of machinery, something about how much freedom they allow you or something. As long as everything goes according to plan they are perfectly safe. The difference between a bike and a car is that so many things can go wrong, and you have to watch for all of them.

Reading some books will impart some knowledge that otherwise might only be gleaned by going down.

    6'5" and then, I was 300+

    Now I'm down to 160-170.

I never had much problem on big bikes. It was the little ones I tended to feel uncomfortable on

Yesterday when I was dropping my girlfriend off at her job just as we were getting out of a car we heard a car at the top of the hill by the parking lot honking. Then a white VW Golf goes coasting down the hill and smashes into a tree near the base of the hill. Apparently the owner of the VW forgot to set his parking brake. He came running down the hill freaking out

I know one mistake that guy will never make again

    This is delightful.

My old roomate did that once.

In the DMV parking lot. When he went to register his brand new truck...

Came out and a highway patrol officer was writing him a ticket for running over some bushes.. (luckily no other damage though).

    Well the tree was fine

From what I saw the car was going to need a new bumper and rear hatch

It is nice to drive a car that you don't have to engage the clutch to start the vehicle.

Nissan Pathfinder/Hardbody trucks and Toyota Hiluxs have a clutch lock out switch that will let you start the truck in gear without the clutch engaged, mainly for precarious off road situations where moving backwards would not be good

I have some pretty cool stories involving the building of these cars and the adventures that ensued (awesome and awful roadtrips, meeting Dan Aykroyd, bomb scares, Batmobiles, and law-breaking), should I make a thread or get the fuck out?

She decided to get a whole new car instead.

Paid about 19k for it plus taxes and shit.

    Thing is sexy.

Almost got to see a woman in a conversion van get hit by a train today

I was in the left lane and she pulled up on my right in a big, ratty, brown van. I reverse a little bit to make room to turn around and the lady floors it and swerves around me and inbetween the bar things right in front of the train. Never seen one of those things move so quickly.

Everyone at the intersection was frozen in the OH GOD WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN face for at least ten seconds afterwards

Speaking of cars from movies, when I was a lad I had a plan to make a Potiac Fiero into an A-Wing. It was going to be pretty awesome. And then some years later I got on the old Internet and saw some guy did it with a Del Sol.

Anyway that Magnum Ecto-1 is a cool thing, updated with hotness yet in the spirit of the Caddy.

My Mercury Grand Marquis LS died yesterday. The engine stalled, then froze while we were in the middle of traffic.

It was a 96' with fine leather seating, and good air conditioning, and my own sound system in it.

I took the sound system out and put it in my moms car. Sold the rest of it for 1500 bucks ( better than junking it for like 150 ).

2 days, and suddenly im without my car. To top it off... it was my grandparents car, that i inhereted.

    I am teh sad.

Try to remember it's just a car and it was gonna die sometime regardless. My mom left me her car and I did my best to keep it in as good of shape as I could but I reached the point where I had put more than the car was worth into the engine, braking system, and various other issues in a span of like 18 months and it was time to get rid of it. Found somebody who apparently had no problem continuing to maintain it and took it off my hands for $3500 and I used that towards the down payment of a new ride.

    Also, this:

    http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/10/2011-chevrolet-corvette-z06-carbon-slots-in-right-below-zr1/
For the truly hard-core Corvette fanatic who likes to spend weekends thrashing his or her car at the track, there is only one Corvette worthy of consideration: the Z06. However, thanks to the ZR1, the lightweight, normally aspirated 7.0-liter coupe is no longer the absolute quickest Vette, but it is felt to have the most responsive handling. What it doesn't have is the uber-cool carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon-fiber body panels and magnetic ride active damping system of its supercharged sibling. That can now be changed to past tense with the birth of the Z06 Carbon edition announced today by General Motors.

So they called with an estimate for my claim. Looks like I'll be getting $14500 plus sales tax and a few other things. That means my new car cost me less than $5k. Nice. It's more than the Kelley Blue Book value, I love Amica.
