Hahahaha, I just talked to the computer in her hallway.

I think I'm going to love this game.

edit: oh god, I'm sorry for the triple post, I figured someone would have posted something while I was playing.

Welp, so much for playing Longest Journey. Every time I try to play, I get past the prologue screen, see the grandmother and the two people sitting by the fire, and have to ctrl-alt-delete out because it only runs at about one frame every 2 seconds.

I've tried the preferences.ini settings people suggest in the GoG forum, they didn't affect it at all. Tried compatibility mode and setting it to only run on one processor, too. No dice.

    :(

edit: Got it, I was changing the wrong preferences file, works now!

    Windows 7?

I've got a windows xp laptop but I wonder if I can get it to work on my wondows 7 computer.

Vista 32 bit, but the fix that I used was said to be for 7.

Haha yeah that's exactly the one I was thinking of.

I think almost everyone who've played it would think of that. :P

    I love it though.

Don't forget the shadow on the wall and the toy monkey.

Anyway, from that selection I'd recommend Jagged Alliance 2, still a classic squad level, turn-based strategy game.

I've having a problem with Planescape: Torment
I'm getting this message after installing the widescreen and ui mods:

An Assertion failed in F:\Torment\Source\chitin\ChVideo.cpp at line number 4322
Programmer says: No valid video modes supported.

    Any advice?

    Edit: Nevermind, fixed it

Arcanum for $3? Well I guess I've run out of excuses to not get it.

Is this thing good out of the box or should I be looking for unofficial fixpacks or mods?

I will always love Arcanum for giving me the ability to kill annoying plot NPC's and then forcefully raise their spirit in order to get the information I need. A real Necromancer does not run errands for some uppity NPC...

The best part is to raise the corpse of the NPC that annoyed you and turn him into an undead servant.

One of my favorite parts about how GOG does sales is if you have already purchased games that are included in a bundle price, they sell the other games to you accordingly. Like if 4 six-dollar games are sold for twelve dollars, and you already own two of the the games in the bundle, GOG will sell you the other two games for three dollars each.

I wish Steam would take a page from that book.

I'm having this problem too, but the "other preference file" that is suppose to exist does not exist, because there is no "Application Data" folder for XP even though both threads I've checked said the fix is for XP...

Only other solution they mention is rollback my Nvidia Drivers... rather not do that yet...

EDIT: Nvm, it's a hidden file, found it.

I bought Arcanum and Myst. Never tried these types of games before and I keep hearing talk of them. I'd buy Psychonauts too but my brothers kids came over for a surprise visit yesterday and I'm now (un)surprisingly short on monies. I'm rich in hugs though. I have sooooo much drool on snot on my shoulders. Wearing black was a bad idea.

So after facing tons of slowdown and crashing issues with Planescape Torment, I decided to uninstall and reinstall without using the resolution and UI mods, and found that it runs just fine now. It's a little blurry, but you get used to it and now the scale of things is a lot better, too.

If you're having similar issues, give that a go. It sucks to have to start over, but things go a lot quicker when you know where you're going and you don't stop to read everything carefully.
