I bet everyone there really wants to make a giant mechatronic t-rex to stomp the fuck out of that place
I sure as hell do
They already have the giant t-rex statue, all you'd have to do is hook up the machines and hydraulics and such and it'd be good to go. What's really bad is how many people I know who have gone to it to either back up their own beliefs, or have somehow been persuaded to start believing their bullshit.
At least this guy has a pretty decent writeup of his visit to the place.
While interesting, I don't see any reason to get excited about the discovery until we actually know what it is.
Eh, I could see it being reasonable to be moderately excited about a possible new discovery.
Will the anticipation be better than the actual news? Probably. I don't see the harm though as long as you aren't going around shouting "WE FOUND THE ALIENS"

But that's just it, all we know is that it's related to astrobiology. I'm confident it will be something fairly interesting from a scientific perspective, but I doubt it's going to be something as exciting as, "hey we found extraterrestrial bacteria."
So while it might well be an announcement that they've found some further evidence that their might have been life on another body in the solar system (not going to try and guess which body), I'm willing to bet the evidence is very open to interpretation and is nowhere near conclusive.

Aren't they usually a little less cagey about announcements like that?
I don't know, I'm sure the announcement will at least be interesting to anyone posting in here.

Oh yeah, I agree it'll probably be interesting. But getting excited in advance suggests breathless anticipation of some major announcement that they've actually found life on another planet, which is almost certainly not the case. It'll be interesting, but it's unlikely to be groundbreaking. Though it may seem groundbreaking at first (especially after the media dumbs it down and hypes it up).
I absolutely am interested in what they're going to announce, I just have reservations about how amazing it will be.
I bet they found another amino acid just chillin out in space. Either way. Cool as fuck. I've thinking about applying to the astrobiology program at Washington University.
Also, don't know if this has been posted but, it's also really cool
Phil Plait of blog Bad Astronomy has a really good post about the upcoming NASA press conference, putting it in perspective and guessing what it's likely to be about (as well as why people should temper wild speculation about what fantastic news they'll announce).

The astrobiologists are relevant because the only life left after will be astrobiology. Little buggies just metabolizing sulfur out around Gliese.
NGC 520, which is actually two galaxies in the middle of an ages-long collision. Space is the awesomest.
And then, even less related, a crazy supercell storm in Montana captured by National Geographic.
Boy I sure would like that to be my wallpaper, BEJ!
OK!

Here we come
hurtling through space
Bringing madness and death to
every sentient race
Hey hey we're the Monkees
Harbingers of astral doom
We're gonna kidnap your girlfriend
and plant a demon in her womb
We'll steal your thoughts and your memories
replace them with a catchy tune
Ia! C'thulu fhtagn
We lie in wait behind the moon

Or is Curiosity an exception?
Here's a cool picture to show the difference.

thank you for posting that!
And by that I mean seeing stuff like "You're"
Which, by the way, is a fantastic movie and if you don't like you are terrible.
