What the fuck? It's not irrelevant just because it's not a big deal for you, what the hell kind of ignorant viewpoint is this? This is a massive issue for me since I am an avid FPS player.

How about you try playing the game using your other hand controlling the mouse for a while and see how that feels? That's about the same level of discomfort, I'd say. Edit: Actually, no, it might even be worse than that; I simply cannot play without invert, I have quit every type of game I ever tried within the first few minutes if it didn't have it.

By the way, no, I'm not the only person. There are plenty of people who play with invert, and that a game today doesn't have it is not just lazy but stupid as hell.

But EE is not a FPS.

And yes it's lazy and they might as well put it in, because I'm p sure there's other people who would like to switch it around. But considering it only controls the camera it's not fundamental and does not make the game unplayable like how normal scissors are a piece of shit for lefties or how writing with your other hand is neigh impossible.

Just takes some getting used to. Which is great for a MMORPG, because the game's slow enough to allow for people to fuck around with the camera for a bit while they get the hang of the controls.

I just told you that it does, in fact, make it unplayable for me, and, as I said, I'm not the only one. Every time I google for invert to see if there's some other option in the MMO I am attempting to play, the very same type of posts pop up: "I can't play this game without invert, please, where is the option?" It is game-breaking for many people out there, not just me.

I'm not going to ruin my aim in FPS games by trying to get used to a completely foreign way of controlling the game. The camera is a fundamental thing for me; I am always looking around areas and messing with the camera looking for the next mobs, etc. It's a habit I have from playing on PvP servers (important to spot those Rogues before they stealth) and from tanking things in WoW—where situational awareness is key. More importantly, I control my character completely through the mouse; I never click move or anything like that, which I guess some people do in these sorts of games.

You can't just sit there and say that something isn't ruining the controls—and therefore the game— completely for me; that's not something you know anything about.

I'd also like to note that the game looks generally really cool, and I do hope they add in invert mouse so that I can try out the game. I have nothing against what I've seen from the rest of the game, but I simply cannot play it until they add invert.

I have to say while my original thought is "yeah it's really not a big deal", I'm reminded of how often in console games I can't flip the horizontal controls and it drives me nuts. More options is usually better.

Also I don't think the stamina removal in Atlantica is really a big deal, I mean even when I was playing it heavily a while back I never came close to capping out on stamina. You would really have to play nonstop all day for it to be a problem. I mean, again, those systems are still silly and force-limiting is never a good option but in most of these games you'd really have to play a nigh-unhealthy amount to cap out on the various stamina bars.

Yeah I have trouble with Eden Eternal also because of the lack of invert mouse option. I spent my time with my character running around looking at the ground. Some things are just reflexes after so many years of playing with Y axis inverted. I can't really change it at will... :)

(My wife she's the other way around, she can't play games at all if the Y axis is inverted... :) )

Didn't they recently remove some annoying stamina system or something from atlantica?

Maybe I should re-install that again.

Last I checked yes, Though be warned the game is fun for awhile the Cash Shop and Game Economy are completely messed up.

I play on a private server using a slightly older client. It still has Stamina, but it's 1000 Stamina per day (-1 stam per battle, good luck using more than 200/day). The economy seems alright, and the cash shop items are surprisingly unattractive, but I'm pretty low level right now.
The issues only really show up in later levels, the main issue with economy is to make money you have to already have money. Namely whenever the latest greatest thing gets added it is a money machine. Not for long as eventually the rewards are nerfed hard. But not before the highest levels with the best gear have taken advantage.
The rich get richer faster. This has caused massive inflation several times jacking costs for common items.

Heh, sounds like almost every MMO in existence. Still, there's a reasonable supply of Champion summon items for like 120m, which is way beyond my current means but not-at-all unreasonable.

Well if your playing a private server most of that may not apply.

And not to say the game is unplayable I put a lot of time and even some money into it before I stopped so it is fun.

Paragon, I was like you. I played like that for a very long time, until one day an FPS came along that I really wanted to play, and it did not have the option to invert the mouselook.

So I played it anyway. After about 20 minutes I forgot about it and got used to the difference. It sucks for a while, just like any control scheme change, but you will quickly adapt, and then you won't have to worry about whether or not a game has the option. If it really bothers you that much, you should try for just a day of playing to get used to it.

It appears that City of Heroes will be going Free to Play later this year. The side by side comparison shows some harsh restrictions for free players (like being unable to whisper), but still, that's quite a bit of content to partake of for folks who have never played it before.

This private server is all that remains of the glorious Earth & Beyond. It's a space MMO with real time combat focusing on space battles and trading. The original game never came out of beta, despite a big fanbase. Some of the biggest fans have now started a private server and have been hosting the game for a while now. It seems EA Games isn't interested in shutting them down.

Just wanted to point out that while private servers are generally against the EULA, when it's a defunct game, that's a different story.

The EULA doen't really apply there.

I can completely understand what Paragon is saying, because I'm the exact opposite - when a game actually defaults to an inverted mouse scheme, I'm instantly disoriented and I have to switch it right the hell now because when down is up and up is down my brain trips and falls repeatedly and I lose the ability to do simple things like press keys on the keyboard.

A quick search suggests at least two programs, "InvertMouse" and "AutoIt" that can help you with games such as this without an invert mouse function.

My biggest concern is the restriction on Archetypes. Have they listed which are available? I'd be likely to play a Mastermind, but I get the feeling that's going to be one of the pay Archetypes and make me sad.

EDIT: Nevermind apparently MM is one of the pay ones. Aaaaand there goes my interest for that.

I'm not sure if this is on the list but you guys should try this.

    http://www.realmofthemadgod.com/

It is like a fantasy mmo but its a smup or whatever they call it where you shoot super fast and lots of projectiles are flying all over the damn place. It is super hardcore in that if you die your character is erased, but unless you're going into the godland area of the game (middle of the map) I wouldn't worry too much about it. Give it a shot, I'm enthralled by it.

GRRR I have quickly fallen in and out of love with Realm of the mad god. Perma death is the only thing that gets me. If I could just die without losing my char/gear I'd love this game to death. No matter how high level/geared you are, at the end of the day, the hardest parts of the game can kill you in half a second. I've survived in the Godlands for hours but once in a while something can just get you. BLAH! Now what do I do with all this free time? lol.

Instadeath is the funniest bit, because you'd run out of stuff to do very quickly if you could just ress with your stuff on you. It's all about unlocking those other toons and surviving long enough in the God Lands to see the crazy bosses and insane loot. Also: looting cool stuff and dropping it off in safer places so other players can use it.

Also~ quickest way to get a few levels: teleport to the zerg and hope you can dodge bullets long enough to get to lv10.

I find that incredibly hard to believe. You lose experience in Eden, too, and I've seen several forum posts whining about that (for good reason, XP loss is a stupid dinosaur in MMOs that needs to go extinct right now).

I would be supremely surprised if Eden is somehow less grindy than WoW, and it makes me wonder what kind of definition of "grind" (and for what area of the two games) you're thinking of.

The: how many times do I have to repeat a boring task for little reward as the only way to get anywhere in the game, kind. So far all the repetitive tasks I have done were finished with within the hour and if I didn't feel like continuing leveling my bard, I just went on doing some more quests.

I fully expect to see bigger grinds in a later stage.

Also, if I'm not allowed to bash WoW at every opportunity I get, I don't see why I should post on these forums. I want my daddy back.

Almost all free-to-plays start out okay and end up being an insane grind once you get to higher levels, so if you haven't actually experienced higher levels in Eden I don't think you can make the comparison.

WoW is not grindy at all up until max level, unless you're making the argument that all the quests are the same and counts as a grind (a hard argument to make unless you're just thinking about type of quests, in which case the definition is meaningless). Once you are max level, WoW is grindy: rep grinds, dungeon grinds, daily quests, BG grinds....until you have good enough gear to do raids. I guess you can make the argument that once you down Cho'gall the tenth time, that's a grind, too, but at that point it starts to lose its meaning again and you might as well call all MMOs grindfests, period.

What WoW does well, however, is that it makes it feel like less of a grind to do these repetitive things.

The grind is somewhat alleviated by the fact that you can level up alternate classes while grinding without sacrificing leveling speed (other than inherent pacing differences between classes). Hitting the same spell over and over again is kind of a drag, so it really helps when you can switch to spamming a different spell for a little while.
