i think of dr strangelove as being pretty broadly comic, whereas fargo is a really serious and bleak movie that sometimes you laugh at the sheer awfulness of everything
Dr. Strangelove is definitely an example of Black Comedy, but I get what you are saying.
Don't want to get another genre argument started.
my point is more that dr strangelove is kind of bleak but it is primarily a comedy with a bleak backdrop. i think it's the absurdism it dives into and also all the precious bodily fluids stuff that leaves me thinking of it that way. fargo and breaking bad are serious things that sometimes make jokes that make your heart hurt.

Like I said, I get that, and you hit the nail on the head about how it may have been more serious during the Cold War era.
Now shall we do a dance of despair and disillusionment or will we be rock n rolling?
I am about to watch the last two episodes of season 3, and I have to say that this show owns.
It has an incredible way of making you love, and root for the characters, and then punishing you for it. So many moments of "No, wait...don't...why are you doing that?!?!" and then you realize that the terrible thing you are watching unfold is absolutely, totally consistent with that character's behavior up to that point. Makes you reconsider how you're assessing them, and their moral code, and their motivations; it's fantastic.

Jesse is my favorite, I think.
the last two episodes of season 3... be prepared to not be able to do anything for a while after
both of those will sit with you for a long time while you process them

dammit
bitch
best way to put it
maybe it would feel more serious if we were still in the cold war
Don't want to get another genre argument started.
skyler's sister, you are messing things up for no reason
