I wish more people would suddenly want to play that game again because then I could make a world and put a server up and we could be writing and designing cool questy things and the world would be stellar
I had a neverwinter nights month where I was stone hooked on that game. But I doubt I could go back. It was the sort of hook where you burn out hard and can't ever go back.
Now, Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer is a game I try to replay once a year or so. More for the story than the gameplay though. NWN1's hooks were all gameplay.
the evil choices always screw you out of quest exp and rewards. I remedied this by killing everyone. you get a lot of exp wiping out those radiant heart pansies
I wish more people would suddenly want to play that game again because then I could make a world and put a server up and we could be writing and designing cool questy things and the world would be stellar
Was thinking about playing NWN sometime soon, I don't think I've played any of them to the end
Cilla, what's the deal with mask of the betrayer? is it like an expansion to NWN 2?
would NWN 2 platinum probably have it?
I want my neverwinter to be complete damnit
I wish more people would suddenly want to play that game again because then I could make a world and put a server up and we could be writing and designing cool questy things and the world would be stellar
I dust off NWN every couple of months or so to play through the Penultima module line. We (SE++) experimented with a persistent server once but it didn't last long.
I own Storm of Zehir but haven't ever played it. My impression was it is to Mask of the Betrayer as Icewind Dale is to Planescape: Torment. More refined gameplay and you can create/name your own characters, but the story is vastly inferior. Never tickled my interesting because of that.

Trent Oster's official Twitter announcement.
New content. Unsure, but if it's the original team, then I have high hopes!
BG:EE will include TotSC.
Extra platforms being announced next week. Also, Beamdog exclusive.
Mod info coming in the future.
Still using AD&D rules.
Screenshots to come next week.
BG:EE based on ToB engine (wild mages, dual-wielding, kits, etc).
Two part release. BG:EE (BG+TotSC) and BG2:EE (SoA+ToB).
As multilingual as possible.
Still 2D isometric. No 3D here.
Possible lead-up to BG3?
Probably obvious, but compatible with W7 and modern GPUs.
Only partial voice-acting, as per the originals.
Fixed multiplayer!
Uses the original save game formats. This could be...interesting.
New characters. New voice actors.
They are doing what they can to be compatible with current mods.
No plans for physical copies. Digital only at this point.
Music remaining unchanged.
Interface improvements confirmed.
Save import from BG1 to BG2 will work. Possibly other ways to connect games.
So what sort of dates are we looking at here. "Summer 2012" is somewhat vague considering the summer is only a few months away.

If the multiplayer is fixed... we might be doing this, peeps. The Lord of Murder shall perish. But in his doom he shall spawn a half-dozen forumers. Chaos will be sown from their multiplayer. So sayeth the wise Alaundo.
Multiplayer is an inherently flawed concept in a game based around pausing every ten seconds.
you just have to have a good friend or, like in my case, a brother or two who think multiplayer baldur's gate would be awesome

If everyone is controlling a character a piece you don't need to pause very often for combat, and I believe you could also change the pause settings so only plot-critical dialog would pause the game. So for the most part your co-players were free to explore/buy and talk/fight dudes as long as you stayed in the same map area.
I wish more people would suddenly want to play that game again because then I could make a world and put a server up and we could be writing and designing cool questy things and the world would be stellar
it took me so many god damn tries to beat that fight. either my pc would get wrecked in a bad time stop, or yaga shugga would dodge harm and I would have to start over. that was the one thing that pissed me off, he's only vulnerable to dex drain and harm. what the hell is that, there is only one dex drain item in the game.
oh right and I was evil which meant I had to fight a cheater monk who is immune to time stop and the first thing sendai casts is time stop.
by the end of ToB I feel like any semblance of fair play had been given up on, and you were somewhat expected to go to extreme lengths to beat the all the dragon gods and immortal giant warriors and wizards
but they also countered all that, like by giving draconis a death field that instantly kills every single summon anywhere on the map no matter what

Translating a D&D system directly into a videogame probably wasn't the smartest thing.

Translating a D&D system directly into a videogame probably wasn't the smartest thing.
Well high level D&D is just a war between competing rule exploits and gaming the system
So by that measure, high-level BG2 was a total success.
(and besides, it was fun as heck. Even if it was very very silly)
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.
my last playthrough was with a thief main character
traps, y'all
traps are your friend in the throne battle
I used spike traps to kill sendai instantly, but balthazahar was pretty much kill him in .2 seconds or lose because he full heals and you just wasted all that time and damage. I was only using 3 pcs so my strategy was power strike to stun him then use my fighter/thief with 9 attacks per round and assassinate to destroy him.
good has it way too easy. time stop mage+pc time stop immunity+balthazar time stop immunity lets you clean up half of them right away.

And NWN 2 platinum should have it
have none of you ever played that game online
it was unreal
so everyone works to build a big neverwinter map and quests and things?
it'd be fun if I was any good at designing things
it does
it also has storm of zehir, is that one any good?
I hear Storm of Zehir is okay. It's the one most like a D&D campaign at least, in that you creatw your whole party and such.
that

that would be awesome if they make it actually work
What? I thought the voice actor who did Boo did an excellent job!

I would be down, @T4CT

Oh shit.
you ass
don't give them ideas
seriously though, god forbid
just
ugh
just need to grind through 30 more instances of the nashkel mines raid
because by the end of ToB you're spending like ten seconds just scrolling through to the spells you want to cast
yeah the final fight in Ascension

I wouldn't call it "directly"
they left out a lot of stuff
you want directly, go play Temple of Elemental Evil
or, better yet, don't
the rest of the game,
well
Fuck, I'd forgotten about that game.
You fucker.
I played it when it first came out and then blocked it from my mind
only remembered it exists a year or two ago
