Do rogues really suck that much? I kind of get the feeling they do, since it's not as though there's a lot of trap-finding or lock-picking, and really, how often do you luck out and happen to attack an enemy from behind

did it do 4x damage potential too?

Did you throw it by dragging it to the top part of the screen and releasing? That's more the "throw it for a puzzle" throw. To throw as a weapon (and one at a time instead of the whole stack) put it in a character's hand and right-click.
If you attack with a stack of rocks (equipped in character's hand, you click on weapon like you would a melee weapon to attack) then you only attack with one at a time. If you pick up the entire stack and the gesture at the top of the screen to throw it, then yes you will throw the whole stack.
I think I am going to try two fighters up front and two mages in the back, efficiency be damned. Also decided against mapping the dungeons myself as I will actually want to finish the game.

I wasn't expecting them at all, beat up a big mushroom and all of a sudden EVERYONE'S DEAD
At the very least if you're fighting things immune to an element your mage can make you take less damage from that element and just throw rocks or something.

patch coming later this week:
- vsync is enabled by default
- borderless windows are no longer topmost
- pressing ESC closes character sheet
- fixed unlimited frost arrow exploit
- bug fix: topmost menu item don’t work reliably in 2560×1440 resolution
- bug fix: wall text translations are not dismissed when right-clicking
- bug fix: inanimate objects can be backstabbed
- bug fix: projectiles go through doors in some very rare cases
- improved display resolution auto-detection at first launch
- fixed a couple of typos
- removed check that disables high texture resolution setting when running low on video memory (some graphics drivers seem to report available video memory incorrectly)
There's also a map editor coming at some point which will be amazing to have.

I was focusing on bows/slings/crossbows with my Rogue, but yeah, I can see the appeal of that.
Also, thank god arrows aren't consumed in combat.

pump every point you can into str and the rest into vit/ene (dex is meaningless since ranged weapons hit 100% of the time)
