I don't know that globalization could really be blamed for stockboys getting paid less
We're not exactly outsourcing the stocking of our shelves to tech centers in India
That is true but globalization impacts the unskilled labor pool in america across the board... in an environment of 8%+ unemployment, what are the chances that unskilled service jobs are going to see any kind of boost.... much less even be able to maintain an effective union? I argue almost nil.
That's kind of what minimum wage is there for, ineffective though it may be.
That really depends on the unemployment rate when this guy's dad was working as a stock boy, and on when/how much the pay rate has dropped
Minimum wage was apparently $3.35/hr in 1990 and rose only slightly until 1997
actually if it was in the seventies, the unemployment rate might have been irrelevant (depends on when, exactly)
labor unions were strong enough in the early seventies that wages were rising even while unemployment was rising
this is part of what triggered the crisis of democracy hysteria among the wealthy and powerful
From that header, I'm not even convinced that's what the graph is trying to communicate. It's just so poorly worded. The whole thing is like an information void where you can just plug in whatever you already believe and assume the graph supports you.

he dug his way into a deeper tax bracket, obviously
Or maybe it's literally advocating a cage match between Romney's tax plan and a worker that earns $60k a year. That could be entertaining. Especially if that worker actually gets a pickaxe.
I bet Romney can wrassle pretty good, after the first trip I guarantee that dog didn't get back in the cage voluntarily

A single worker earning $60k a year would apparently be in the 25% bracket, but would have an effective tax rate of 18.38% if all the income was taxable (unlikely)
I didn't realize until very recently that Kelly was from the onion. I had always thought they were real.
Wait what. Holy shit.
Is this you just now finding this out or being amazed that he only just now figured it out
I just don't go to the onion that often, so I only see them when they're posted here or in d&d. Most real political cartoons are just as ridiculous so I had no idea that these weren't.

MSNBC is shit
i like al-jazeera and the bbc because while they have their own distinct problems, they're not as tied to US interests
al-jazeera only really slops on the emir of qatar's dong, and BBC is just sort of a british policy apologist

I can't even tell what exactly that graph is trying to communicate.
It is trying to communicate the thing that people have been saying about Romney. The idea that he is super rich and barely paying any taxes, while somebody who is not making much money at all (I would kill a man for a $60k a year job right now but that is beside the point) is getting taxed more.
I got it. super rich mitt romney pays 14% income tax, not super rich worker pays 29%. what is so mysterious about that
not super rich worker does not, in reality, pay 29%

I know incomes are variable based upon where you live and the cost of living but... in Florida a $60k job is very much a mid-to-upper level white collar position in a desirable field. Most labor jobs cap at at $30k.

incredibly well-remunerated ditch digger aside, y'all are forgetting that someone earning $60k/annum is probably paying payroll taxes out of his butthole as well
a net effective tax rate of 29.9% is not unthinkable

nice try

no you just need more labels:
Egads, that's pretty fucking awful.
To think I had one of their cd's in high school. Thank goodness I remember none of it.

He appears to agree with you.
Though overall, not a particularly insightful read.
Wait what. Holy shit.

I'll venture a guess and say he donated some money to more left leaning organizations back when he was in Massachusetts.
Like, if he gave some money to a pro choice charity. Oh boy, those crazy southern folks would be angry
correct, realistically it would end up being much closer to 15, or even lower than that if they had any kind of common deductions to take
They took Romney's effective tax rate, and graphed it next to what I can only assume is a (marginal tax rate + some other crap)
