so..anyone have any tips for levelling/grinding? I'm in queensland (human starting area) all the quests/events i can find are level 14..i'm level..10..and i had to grind mobs to get there from 9. I've criscrossed the zone like 10 times and I can't find anything else, i'm at a loss. I must be missing something but i have no idea what.
Have you been doing the Story quests?
Or you could try your hand at crafting. It nets you probably more XP then you normally get for killing things. I mean cooking a simple stew nets me 700 XP and I think making Copper Ingots is about 100ish.
Yeah, my story quests are now 4 levels above me if i try them now the general mobs one shot me..crafting..ehh...i have never been one for crafting, i would sooner watch paint dry
Worth noting that this is some actually decent crafting. When you, say, refine a bunch of ingot in to bars rather than have each one take a second or whatever to form, each one takes progressively shorter time. By the time I get to the end of a stack of 20 each bar is taking under a tenth of a second. I'd recommend doing some gathering/refining at the least since it's both fast and a big boost to xp and you can always sell the stuff.
Welp. Still unable to start the game without it crashing.
Managed to submit a support ticket yesterday before I gave up for the night. Twelve hours later and no reply. No reply to the two tweets I made yesterday asking if it was known issue either.

Run their repair facility on the client.

The most frustrating thing is that I played during the BWEs and stress tests without issue. Now the games released; crashtown.
Another blind stab.. Did you try renaming/moving Local.dat (in the "Documents/Guild Wars 2" folder)? Did you try running in compatibility mode for XP?
Hopefully support gets back to you soon. I'm sure they are swamped and working on it.

curious, do you own an HD Radeon 6000 series? I've been noticing a lot of problems across multiple mmos from multiple people with that line. I know it's only anecdotal, but I'm running a 5870 and I get a good 50+ fps on average, no crashes and I haven't heard of any problems from 7000 series owners.
Edit: I'm an idiot and can't read. I just saw the part that said 5800 series.
Has anyone else been completely unable to access their HoM rewards, despite their accounts being linked? I can get to the Eye of the North fine, but there's just some short dialogue with Kimmes and nothing else.

@Enig ! You're beautiful! When I went to try the renaming Local.dat, I remembered the .m3u files I'd created in anticipation of using my own music. I renamed both the Local.dat and the .m3u files by appending -old to them.
IT WORKS! BY THE GODS I'M PLAYING GW2! I'm grinning like a five year old in a sweet shop right now.
Not sure which of the files were causing the issue as I changed both at the same time but I'm not tinkering any more to find out in case I break it again :P

I'm enjoying my necromancer more than I thought I would.
And my mesmer less than I thought I would.
OH WELL!!!
In general, I really like it how I can go from doing events to doing story stuff to doing sPVP to doing wuvwuv in a matter of seconds. No bullshit restrictions, just go do what you like.
So, I used my Tome of Influence to try and help boost my small, personal guild. I made certain I was actively representing the guild and everything and...
Nothing. The Tome vanished and I got absolutely nothing in return.
Am I totally shit out of luck now? Will I get it back? What do I do? A large part of why I wanted this edition was to get the boost to help my guild, since it's just me and a couple close friends, but now it's pretty much just been a huge waste. I'm really, really unhappy about it.

Ugh, I have such a busy week ahead of me. Won't get much in the way of play time. You'll be so far ahead of me. At least there's down-levelling for grouping and you'll know the dungeons kinda by the time I catch up.
Okay, so I've played a bit now. Frame rate is still super weird in places, but whatever.
My warrior is nearly level 10 and I guess I've figured out how the story quests work with the events, so that's cool.
How do I get new crafting recipes? Is it just through random experimentation?

Regarding level progression, I have been having a very good time of it. I think you need to try going into higher-level areas. Since about 8 or 9 I have been running around in areas 4 levels above me. The combat and loot is amazing. I think it also helps that I found some areas within Caledon so compelling and beautiful that I just hung around exploring long enough that multiple events occurred.
Caledon is fucking gorgeous. @World as Myth tell the people responsible for Caledon that it exceeds my love for the environments of Skyrim and I will be coming back to it long after I out-level it. Some Caledon event spoilers:
Two things happened yesterday that really affected me. First was when I came upon this outpost east of the Wychmire Swamp. It overlooked this ravaged forest where some mosshearts, looming quadrupedal tree creatures, were being attacked by fire imps. I tried so hard but I was alone and the imps were like 3 levels above me. All of the mosshearts were killed. The person who ran into the outpost desperately asking for help (terrific voice actor) was heartbroken that we failed. I was so sad. I'm tearing up a bit as I write this. I felt awful that I couldn't save them. I hung around to put out the fires and kill the imps but it was too late for the mosshearts.
The other thing happened on Quetzal Bay. I ran into a hylek settlement and stopped there to fiddle with my inventory. During that I got to hear the hylek talking, and they're so funny. I like them a lot! While I was going through my inventory the krait, serpentine mermaids, appeared and raided the settlement looking to take back some slaves back down into the depths of the bay. Again I fought them alone, and again I lost. They took their prisoners and the settlement was left barren. Then two of the hylek ran into the settlement. They were very upset. One of them, the leader, raged about the "outsiders". How they had done nothing, how they had betrayed them once again. They barred outsiders from entering the settlement and became hostile to anyone who happened to come by.
I was really disappointed in myself. I ended up jumping into the bay looking for the next link in the event chain, hoping to redeem myself. Half an hour later I had done so, saving the leader's daughter and gathering krait skins to prove my dedication to them. As a result, the settlement became friendly again and I could hear the funny hylek talk to each other as they ate flies.
I really like the dynamic content. It makes the world feel alive and it engages me completely.
My framerate appears limited by my CPU. (Stupid early quadcores) I get virtually no difference between settings unless I set them really high. Guess it's 30fps land for me
I know the trading post stuff is incredibly frustrating. As a bit of insider trivia, the guys fixing the trading post stuff have been working now for 36 hours straight trying to debug whatever the hell's going on.
poor guys, I hope they'll be able to get some sleep soon Wish them our best!
Aside from little hiccups like the AH the game works great and my husband, my daughter and myself are enjoying it tremendously! Thank you for making such an awesome game!

I saw your post in the last thread and I have to agree. I feel like I'm controlling a tank. Granted, I am played as a Charr, but something still feels off. Cranking up camera speed helped a little bit. I'm hoping it's just a little laggy and will get better later. Otherwise I'm missing something too.
Does anyone know how server changing will work once the grace period is up?
I changed tonight to play with my cousin because the damn join up option is touchy as hell and I just wasn't sure what the process will be like if I have to server transfer to group with him every time.
Oh and I killed that shadow death swamp dragon boss thing in the human starting zone. Pretty sweet. I'm looking forward to more large boss type fights.
If you've already changed servers before, then you should have an idea of how it works; you pick a server from your character selection screen and hit "transfer". When the grace period is up, the system will be the same, but you'll have to pay a fee to be able to move. I think they had a few restrictions in place as to how often you could transfer, but I don't remember what they were.
The reason why joining up isn't working that great is because guesting is not in yet. The grace period for server transfering ends when guesting is added. When it does get in, you can simply guest to another server, rather than having to transfer your home world.

Anyone on feel like helping me finish the last Human Circus mission? It's rated level 19.
I would ask in the guild channel, but I've been suffering from the Guild Invite bug. In game name is Millenia Reign.
EDIT:
Nevermind. It seems that this particular mission does not allow a party in with the main player. Looks like I'll be logging off for sleep now.

Okay so now that I've made the epic journey on foot to the Norn starting zone from Queensdale, this might be a good time to ask whether or not there was an easier way to do that. Portals/Deeprun Trams?
Also rifle has stolen the damn show on my warrior. Between Kick as a utility and STAWK STRIKE, I'm able to keep several enemies out of blade's reach at once, or keep one big enemy from hitting me altogether. It is so much fun guys.

There is a hub town called Lion's Arch that has Asura portals to every major city. You could have entered it from the Norn city and then hopped to the Human city.
Odd question here...as the game dynamically level adjusts around you, if per chance you didn't want to go into any of the underwater areas - could you just skip them and see your days out as a landlubber - are there any integral story arcs that are liable to take place in the underwater sections, or is that part of the game just there to give an added bulletpoint against the competition.
POI in south east Kessex Hills, east of Dominion Killing Zone... seems to be in a mountain... but how do you get there? I've explored two cave systems so far (the hole in the ground, and the one up the mountain river) but none of them lead to that point...
EDIT: Also, is it normal to get "Login Error: You do not have access to Guild Wars 2." when you log onto their official forums? I wanted to ask about the Golem Servant, because it feels to me right now as it will disappear in 4 days? That feels very odd, because naturally the first thing I did when I got it was to try it... so was it a one time thing only and I wasted it? Feels weird, because a pre-order bonus shouldn't be a one time thing...

Significant sections of the game world are underwater, as well as portions of some dungeons. Underwater is a big deal in GW2. There are dedicated weapons and mechanics for it, and it is part of the game design.
You can probably level to 80 without going underwater by spending more time doing land-based events, but I don't know if you can avoid it completely during the storyline (I haven't gone all the way through the storyline).
One of the ancient dragons is a water/ocean based dragon, so an expansion down the line will likely be more water-focused. Impossible to say for sure though.
I can see and represent guild but now in my game it is saying that i am not in one. this is happening after completing the Hoelbark area. Cant see guild chat anymore either.

holy shit grenade kit is as fun as I thought
PROTIP turn on smartcasting- it makes all your abilities that are ground targeted target your mouse cursor
so if I have my grenade kit equipped I have 7 (so far) ground targeted abilities
the five grenade skills, the grenade toolbelt skill, and the healing potion toolbelt
I basically just throw things at people and then they die (or get buffs)
but my engineer almost more than I thought
I literally spent 30 minutes sitting in one place and throwing grenades once I unlocked that skill
at what, you ask?
literally at nothing. I just wanted to make explosions happen
