Valentine's Day
Check out the SoulMate 2501 BETA brought to you by Anansi Technologies, for its new Compatibility Assessment. Stations have been purchased in London by The Yellow Sign and The Horned God.
For a limited time, the Ealdwic post in London is selling seasonal cards for flirting, friendship, or discouraging a not-so-secret admirer.
I didn't play enough to notice if it was true or not, but the skill description says 4 times, not 5. If that's true, a 10% reduction in damage but 20% more often is increasing the damage it does, just lowering spike damage, probably for the sake of PVP.
I'm making friends on the RP website and someone there mentioned that his Live Wire seems to be hitting for 10% less.
Make friends with Hex. Riem, and Sallah, they are good people, tell them Nagini says you're cool. Hex is the RP site admin (and my cabal leader), Riem and Sallah is a very nice people to know. All Dragons, of course.
Before following any advice, opinions, or thoughts I may have expressed in the above post, be warned: I found Keven Costners "Waterworld" to be a very entertaining film.
So I have this problem with Secret World that any time the game patches, it runs through the patcher fine but when it finishes downloading everything it doesn't stop. The little progress bar just keep filling up, streching off the menu until it goes right off my screen.

Is this known and/or is there a fix?
It's "known" in the sense that it happens to a lot of people, but as @ironzerg said, just close the patcher and relaunch it. That will take care of things.
@Decomposey: I saw Sallah yesterday- I will mention what you said. Haven't met the other two, unless they go by other names in the website. Thanks!

Hex goes by h3x on the website, and Riem doesn't post much, but you can find him in game, and he'll even run nightmares.

I think if you close the patcher and re-open it, it'll work. Or at least it's worked for me when it's happened.
I know that; I was just wondering if there's an actual fix for it. I'll just let it go I guess.
Then I have nothing more to teach you. The apprentice has become the master.

I'm considering picking this up soon, and I'm still reading up on/learning a little about the way this game plays from you folks, videos, etc. I must ask, since I've been on a Jim Butcher kick as of late: can I basically make Harry Dresden in this game, and how would I do that? This could tip the balance precariously in favor of buying this game....
So, I'm gonna vent in here. Feel free to ignore this. But I want to see if anyone else would react differently.
Advertised for an 18/18 in LFG. Had FAL up as well. Responded to someone looking for DPS's for a "quick 18/18." They asked what my AR was (3380) and invited me.
Got into Pol. Group leader is the healer, who is using leech (and sporting Panoptic Core, mind you).
No real troubles up until Ur-Draug. Then, hell breaks loose.
We get him to bubble. Then he goes blue. We hide. Healer doesn't seem interested in hitting the adds to keep tank up, and is instead using the AOE heal from Quantum Brace. Blue phase over, boss comes around. Tank takes big hit, dies. Wipe.
Second attempt, healer tells us to "burn" just as the bubble phase is over. The other DPS's hide. Wipe.
A couple more attempts, and healer insists on burning. I tell her this isn't working. She insists because "leeching in blue" is apparently like, teh difficult.
Later, someone asks if anyone has ele for Short Fuse. I told them I do, but it's not NM-ready. They tell me to switch anyway- oh and get Deadly Aim while I do.
I politely inform them that DA is a pistol ability and my ele build is /blood.
Try again. Same result.
After a few more tries, healer starts to get really pissy. She yells at one DPS for not having a glyph on her belt talisman. She yells that we wiped one time because people were standing too close to the rocks. And apparently, that's like, beginner NM info, or something.
Now on that attempt, I was the last one to die. So I asked who was standing close to the rocks.
No response. Finally: "Whatev, let's go"
I copy/pasted my combat log that showed I died from being hit by the boss. No response.
Wipe.
She yells that she (as leech healer) is catching up to the DPS because she's "tracking it." I tell her I am too (ACT) and I am doing much less DPS than normal because they asked for SF (about half). Other DPS asks me to switch to my normal build. Before I can respond, I'm kicked out of the group.
Seriously? And I was trying to be nice because little Miss Panoptic Core refused to change builds and the only reason we were attempting to burn Ur-Draug was because she didn't want to heal through the blue phase.
Mind you, she also ranted about how we're supposed to upgrade our weapons first (and not our talismans- which tells me she was inspecting us) because each .1 weapon upgrade = 400AR. And that blood is "poop" (totally substituting there) and shouldn't be used in NM.
If I were a drinking man, I'd be passed out at this point.
Usually the ones to call a burn on Ur-Draug are the DPS, and then only when he's hitting 120k-135k health at his first bubble. If his bubble phase is hitting before his blue phase, your group may be capable of burning, but that's the DPS's call, not the healers, since the DPS are the ones who have to do the burn work.
And while healing in blue phase with a leech is probably difficult due to the mobs high evade, the healer should be prepared for that, not expect YOU to make up for her lack. If it was that difficult, she should have used her other heals... blood, or fist, not Core.
Though standing close to the rocks when they explode is something you should learn early in NMs, accidents happen.
All in all, getting kicked probably wasn't a bad sign, that healer was dragging the group down, and they veyr likely didn't finish.
Before following any advice, opinions, or thoughts I may have expressed in the above post, be warned: I found Keven Costners "Waterworld" to be a very entertaining film.
I honestly was glad to get out of it- got into an HR group that wiped the floor with the Tyrant, even after two of us died.
I forgot to mention that she specifically called out myself and one other DPS (before I was kicked) that we should learn how to do our jobs.
When I got kicked, I /bowed, added her to ignore, and left.
This is one of my very few complaints with TSW (and it's not the game's fault). I welcome the more interesting dungeon mechanics and difficulty after suckling on WoW's ezmode teat for years, but it also brings back all the ragey, abusive, pseudo-elitist types who can't possibly fathom why everyone doesn't play at their level AND/OR that they could possibly be less than perfect their own execution. It can be a real fun sapper when you run into this folks.
This is pretty much the reason I have't been on a whole lot lately. End game is pretty much "Run 18s" until you 10.4, then the rest is kits, skins, etc. WoW taught me that pugs are terrible 99% of the time. Its been slightly better in TSW but NM brings it out a lot more than the rest of the game. I don't have the grindy in me anymore, especially when people act like that.
It would be nice to have a proper, regular progression group to work through all the Nightmares and Lairs and do everything, instead of hoping for an 18/18 when we're not scheduled and half the time have to pug a DPS. But alas.
I would love if the PA cabals were NM ready, because I tend to spend more time sitting in Agartha looking for a group than doing dungeons.
Ante4 is now created, and on his way to Freeborn. Ante3 isn't ready for it yet either, so if anyone's questing while I'm playing one of those, would you mind letting me tag along? I need dem XPs.
Oh, I did Polaris as Ante4 with a bunch of people who were at around ql2-3. It was really weird going back to that level. First, it was so slow. The extra health in NM has been counteracted by high DPS, so it goes along much faster than yesterday's run did. And second, people haven't really specialised by that point, so when our tank died and I thought well, we're boned, one of the other DPS was able to tank the rest of the fight. It felt really weird to me but it makes sense, everyone had around 3-4k health, so why not. May have helped that I was doing debil too.
Just such a different experience to NMs, which is all I'm used to now.
I beat the gatekeeper last week, but haven't even really wanted to do a nm yet. The whole endgame just seems like a ridiculous grind. "run the same 3 repeat dungeons over and over to get enough gear to run the other repeat dungeons then maybe someday you'll get into the one raid where idiots will keep screwing it up"
Yeah. Which is why we'd love to get more coordination as far as the folks who are NM-ready. However, everyone has their stuff to do, so this is difficult. Me, I don't really have a life, so I'm on most every night.
Also, timezones and stuff. I'm one of the later ones to get on, so I'm kinda used to not seeing others online for NM's (or they're already running, since they're on early). Trit was lucky and got scooped up by another group.
I still play with the PA folks when there's a slot, but a few days ago a got recruited by a cabal that I run with kind of often now (got picked up in Argartha to heal a group of 4 of them one night since all their healers were on lockdown, and they said I was one of the best healers they've played with and wanted me to sign up with them). They were really cool folks, and the actual CABALS for the PA group are pretty much useless, so I figured what the hell. Plus I like having a large social group that's always hanging out in a mumble server, I pretty much never used voice chat in TSW before them. Taught me HE NM last night too.
But I always say hi to #PA when I get on, and if you ever need a healer for anything just ask me when you see me.
Oh, and speaking of HE NM... On the 2nd boss we used this weird strategy where one DPS was a "runner" who had to run ahead of the group and do absolutely nothing except stand in certain spots at certain times.
1. Is that actually the intended strategy to beat him?
2. If so, how the fuck did anyone figure that out the first time?
Is any of the Tyler Freeborn stuff doable at lower "levels?" Come to think of it, I wonder if there are other missions that reward significant rewards but require basically no combat, sort of like running ahead with a new character to complete the first Mayan quest. I expect I'll be grinding out my newbie for a while, but I might as well game it as much as possible. There may just not be enough of a gap in mission reward for it to be worth the trouble.
Think I might have to splurge and use my freebie points to buy that double AP buff when I think I'm going to have a lot of time to level.

I tried it the first day it came out, when nobody knew what to do. We needed to chase him to those points, but then he gets an insane damage boost for a few seconds and we needed to run away. We settled on having the tank chase him and we waited, but now that people have done it more this tactic is smarter and easier. I just wish I knew how and where to do it, so I could be the runner myself.
Incidentally, I wish that there were some easy way to try stuff out in NMs without wasting 4 people's time. Ideally, the ability to fight any particular boss with 4 npcs, without any reward, as a chance to practise. Like, I have the gear to tank or heal any NM, but I don't know much about doing those, so I'd like a low-stakes way to check out some of the fights.

plus all those balance changes
No NMs for me right now I think.
We knew that. We didn't know by how much.
@AnteCantelope: Really? That's interesting.
But the Quarry crashes me now, though. And it broke my float text mod, so I started getting messages about being full on skill points again.
Our group "beat" him twice, but he wouldn't drop below 1 HP and ended up reaching the enrage timer.
Only because this is usually how you get around it- did you try hitting him with AoE's?

Unidentified Aerial Target has been detected and destroyed. Moving to recover debris at crash site.
Can't say for certain, but pretty sure one guy did try.

I've got a reputation to maintain, after all. Speaking of which, I'm writing stuff (based on our PM's). I'll send it to you when done.
