gone home is definitely a game, even if it's one I didn't like. you walk around an interact with things. that's gameplay
For cara's article I think there definitely is a feeling that people need to rank things in the gaming community(and frequently others), shit I like thinking about my 10 favorite games or 10 favorite soundtracks. Giant bomb dedicates an entire week to their top 10 games. I think the important part is how quickly people are to spew vitriol at others because their rankings are wrong god damn it how can you possibly be that stupid
I think about things like score-inflation (where a genuinely terrible game gets a 5/10, and if the game is generally competent/inoffensive it's in the 7.5-10 range) and it seems pretty obvious to me that the practice of reviewing video games is more about marketing than about communicating something about what the game is, and why it may or may not matter.

Gaia just split off a forum for 18+ stuff since the kids that have been there since it opened are now all over 18 and leaving for more "adult" "forums" like reddit and 4chan. I forget what it's called exactly--and I'm not going to look it up here at work--but I remember it was a reference to tentacle porn.
like I still don't know about sarah's deck death being a "ha ha told you she was useless!"
but the way it abruptly cuts off her arc makes the speech you gave her earlier that much less about her and that much more about you
and sarah only existing to benefit clem's arc is... bothersome to me
I get that a central conceit of this game is that people die in it, and do so often and suddenly. But they've already established that in virtually every chapter of the game for the last two seasons. And then in a single episode, they take three or four characters who you made choices about earlier in the season (or even that episode), and basically throw them into a woodchipper. It starts to feel like they decided "wellp, that character served the one purpose they were made for. Time to suddenly have them get dead." It makes it far too easy to see the strings holding these puppets up - each character exists just to prompt Clem into doing something, and not to actively contribute to anything more than one or two plot points before dying in a horrible way to shock the player.
I think part of what made Season 1 work was that it didn't feel like every single death was there to prompt Lee to do something. It felt meaningful. And even if some characters were polarizing to people like Kenny, they still got to experience a full plot and change and grow as characters, while their opinion of you changed throughout the story. I think that's something that is direly missing from this season - yeah, you can choose whether you like Kenny or Luke better, but does that really change their perception of you that much? Does it alter the party's interaction in any meaningful way? Whereas in Season 1 when you were nice to Duck or mean to Kenny or taught Clem a certain thing, it meant something. If there was a theme going on about the powerlessness of being a child in a group full of adults who don't know what the hell they're doing, it might work out; but they've treated Clem like the only capable person in their party from Day 1.
With Sarah specifically, it seemed like maybe they were getting to a point where you could have an impact on someone outside of yourself in the party. And then they just laughingly cut her plot short to have yet another horrific death added to the tally. It's just...disappointing, honestly.

When I was in my teens I had access to a minidisc player that my mom got me from work. I could barely fit anything on there, so anytime I needed portable music I just listened to the Radiohead anthology. For two years.

Geddy Lee sings like something that should be making Chrstimas toys out of wood, has a boner for Ayn Rand and looks like a dude who is no longer allowed to put on magic shows for children by law.
