About the portal's story, MAJOR SPOILERS DO NOT READ :
This is the first game I've played that shows you what it's like to be in an abusive relationship. Like I knew the AI was a bitch, but I kinda trusted her, and didn't believe she'd try to straight out kill me until I saw the giant fire pit. Then I get out and she says it's all a joke. The trust is broken, but you're not out yet. The boss fight is like the breakup, where you deal with all her aspects. I like the curious one. Then the credits she sings to you about how you broke her heart but it's all good, good luck finding a new girl. FAT CHANCE! And then she basically tells you to fuck off and die. Kinda made me want to go crawling back for more.
Loved the game. A bit more enjoyable then Episode 2 in fact though they are both amazing.
Spoiler concerning ending of portal and episode 2.
I played through episode 2 first and when they mentioned the Borealis and how it was connected with Aperture Science I at first was thinking that would be the big reveal in portal that you get to the top level and you find your on a boat. Anyone else feel they hinted that way? Even after you leave the test areas in portal and it is all rusty and falling apart it seems a bit ship like. Maybe I'm just crazy but all the way up till they show you outside the facility for a brief second that was my assumption.

I thought that might be the case; though there is WAY too much random gigantic machinery for the inside of a boat.

How many puzzles does the game contain? I was playing at my friends house today and got to room 12 or something, and i'm trying to decide if it's worth picking up on steam or not.

I always thought that there wouldn't be much to the building once you got behind the walls and that the whole test was behing conducted in some shithole rusted out warehouse with some flashy intererior decorating, but I was totally wrong, too.
some crazy shit happens. I would say that the puzzles constitute 1/2 of the game play, the crazy shit is the other half, at least as far as time invested goes.
Fucking great game. It's so well done that solving any of the puzzles makes you feel like a motherfucking physics genius. It's absolutely mind blowing.

19 puzzles with around ~30-40 minutes of stuff after you finish the 19th, along with some bonus/challenge puzzles to add more difficulty by either changing the puzzles or limiting your actions while you do them.
There were writings on the walls and several Glados references of the cube speaking to you. My cube never spoke to me or whispered lies to me. Did it talk to you guys? Note, I had no other voice problems like some people who say they went the entire game without dialogue.
no, it never talks to you. but if you look at some of the scribblings of the wall of the past test subject, it seems like they went insane and thought the cube was talking to them, thus the whole deal. just an insanity/creepy/funny thing.
Although the euthanizing process is remarkably painful, 8 out of ten Aperture Science Engineers believe that the Companion Cube is most likely incapable of feeling much pain
Copied it exactly from the credits. Even though I'm betting it's somewhere in the gcf file. It was fun doing it while listening to Still Alive looped :P
Didn't we have some fun, though? Remember when the platform was sliding into the fire pit and I said, "Goodbye." and you were like, "NO WAY", and then I was all, "We pretended we were going to murder you."
It says right here in your personnel file: Unlikeable, liked by no one. A bitter, unlikeable loner, whos passing shall not be mourned. Shall not be mourned. That's exactly what it says. Very formal, very official.
It also says you were adopted, so that's funny too.

That was great.
Probably one of my favorite non-cake related quotes.
How do I open both doors when I only have 1 ball with which to activate a switch? I've got 2/3 orb things activated and can't get the third one.
Hold the first one open and when the energy ball passes through let it close and it'll bounce between the two doors until you move the ball to open the second door. Do it fast before the energy ball fades.
Oh my god I just now noticed the OP. hi5s all around!

Help. I really hate to think this is a glitch.
Last, last, last thing you do (I mean, it has to be):
"I'm going to kill you." Thing comes up. I put Portal 1 on one side, line up Portal 2 on the other side, thing targets me, fires rocket through Portal 1, it sails through and smacks into it from behind . . . and then fucked up physics take over and the rocket harmlessly spins like it was in lunar gravity and twirls away gently before popping out of existence. WTF am I doing wrong?
Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeevermind. I am an idiot.

I cannot believe the simplicity of the seemingly impossible tasks I keep encountering. This game is fkn genius.

The rocket turrets are invincible. Don't try to kill it. I wasted a minute or two on it myself.
Use its attacks to fight your way through the area, not to fight it itself.

Well done, Android. The Enrichment Center wishes to remind you that Android Hell is a real place, and you will be sent there at the first sign of defiance.

There are so many great quotes
The enrichment center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will not threaten to stab you, and in fact cannot speak.
In the event that the weighted Companion Cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.

That cake recipe is priceless. I hope this is the start of a second IP that they milk mercilessly for the next ten years. It's brilliant.

That gave me an idea, and now I've uploaded the radio mix version of the song here
Seriously someone needs to make a sig generator with everything GLaD says
Um... I'm stealing this. Its going to be my ringtone in about 3 minutes.
