To be fair to Texas's complete insanity regarding gold bars, it sounds like a lot of it occurred around the same time that people were concerned the US might not raise the debt ceiling and would default on their loans, which makes investing your dollars into gold seem more sensible.
It's still stupid, because the US would never actually default on its loans and the same people (the right) who were panicking about default were the ones playing chicken with the debt ceiling to get concessions, but it makes slightly more sense.
I have no desire to be fair to Texas. They certainly aren't being fair to the rest of us.
I say this as a Florida.
Florida.
Florida gave us GWB.
I feel like you can never talk shit about anyone ever again.
let us open the big book of dumb shit in history
by this logic no one can say anything to anyone
we'd have to go around respecting each other like a bunch of losers
Fun fact: Denmark is named for the "mark" that bears make outside their dens shortly before they go into hibernation. It warns other bears that this den occupied and they should find another.
in danish 'den mark' means 'that field'
but the danish name for the country is danmark
Is the most common name in your socialist hellhole Daniel Markusson?
the danish patronymics end in -sen. Names ending in -son is characteristic of the ancient enemy, the perfidious Swede
Daniel and Dan are common enough names
Daniel Markussen
I thought Danes considered Nowegians to be the most nemesis-ish

It's kinda gone away a bit now but several of the senators and talking heads who were really talking up the debt crisis and financial insecurity had a lot of money invested in various gold-scamming businesses
By talking up gold as a never-fail purchase they were making a shitton of cash for themselves.
on the other hand, if you really believed in an inevitable mildly inflationary debt crisis, it'd be sensible to put your portfolio in gold
Wouldn't it almost always be more sensible to put your portfolio in, like, non-American companies though? I mean, there's no way Rick Perry would be able to argue for investing Texas's education budget in foreign markets, but that's got to have a better ROI than gold.
if you go full austrocrazy you'd say that fed reserve/ecb qe was fueling a global asset bubble

remember that austrians don't believe in the emh, they believe in roundaboutness of production concealing unsustainable combinations of industrial trade - simpler moneylike assets like gold behave differently from complex foreign MNCs in the event of an austrian crisis

no Norwegians are like the most beloved foreigners
the rivalry with sweden is friendly and mostly joking in modern times, but Denmark and Sweden has the world record in wars fought between two countries
Norway and Denmark was in a personal union for 400 years, the period in which a lot of those wars were fought
BC, do you do a comic strip? Because if not, you totally should.
I know that I have the artistic skill to do one at the point, as well as the like... fast..ness.., but I genuinely don't have an idea and I'm not really interested in just doing a diary one. I'm not witty enough.
I'd do one if someone else with a similar level of genuine motivation would write it, but I've never found anybody actually willing to do that when they realized what kind of work would be necessary
There's loads of people here you might be able to team up with, there's a web comic thread in Graphic Violence for this.
Unfortunately that thread seems not to be particularly active. Interesting part of the forum to poke around in though
BC you're in the general Western MA area, right? There are a bunch of local people who'd be down for team-ups as well I'm pretty sure. It's quietly a hub of aspiring webcomic people thanks to Topatoco.

Just out of curiosity, did anybody else in college feel like their school was constantly doing something really dumb?

I'm glad I'm not the only one, although most of the issues with A&M was athletics (JOHNNY FUCKING FOOTBALL /s) and administration. The only academic stupidity was pretty awful though; they changed engineering from "you are accepted to X department" to "you are accepted to engineering, and compete to get into any department" which they immediately reverted because it was awful for the students, admissions, the atmosphere, and every departments scholarship process.

I'm slightly more engaged with what they talk about but I am not an expert
my impression is that ABCT is coherent macroeconomic way of thinking, but has straightforward problems reconciling with basic empirics
