A dude on Reddit got a leaked copy of the Rebirth one shot and is posting some pictures

    The big shocking reveal?
Watchmen is now part of the DCU in some capacity, as there is a full page splash of Batman holding up the smiley pin with blood on it

They are seemingly responsible for whatever it is that causes the Rebirth event and the mixing of the two timelines according to the leaker

    Hmm
    I think
    I love DC again now
Join me on the crazy train, my friend

    Wow.

    These are sure some decisions.

It's funny, I never noticed how close the word 'decisions' was to 'delusions'

I wonder if I'll ever see a DC Universe in my lifetime that isn't infected with Alan Moore and Frank Miller's bullshit.

I love how stupid everything about this is

I want their reboot three months from now to be, I don't know, the same but everyone's got a five o'clock shadow now! And their teeth are permanently gritted at all times! DC: REMIX, or something, Jesus

My favorite thing about DC is how stridently they aspire to be the exact style that Bill Watterson mocked in Calvin and Hobbes.

The dumbest, like actual bad dumb not hilarious ridiculous dumb, thing about the leaks
is that they brought back TEEN Wally

    Why

He hasn't been Kid Flash since the 80s and there's a new teen Wally already active

Why not bring back Dad Wally with his whole family, which would make him distinct from Barry and New Wally

It's like they're actually pretending to be stupid just to annoy the diehard Wally fans.

"Haha, why are you mad? You said you wanted Wally!"

It does kind of make sense that this is the last Geoff Johns written comic for a while - this will be tough to come back from.

Somehow I feel someone out there once said the same thing but replaced Alan Moore and Frank Miller's names with Jack Kirby.

The difference being that Kirby created or co-created nearly every aspect of the comics industry, while Moore and Miller did not.

    dang
the watchmen is a def crazy twist, no idea if it will be any good (probably not). Can't wait to see Moore's reaction to it though lol

    Two leaked pages

    Is that second page
doing the scene from Batman v Superman?

    Also the art is bad

I don't think the lesson from "our dark and gritty interpretations are tanking" should be
"let's make Watchmen part of Earth-1".

    To be fair...
...we don't know what part of Watchmen got put into the main DCU if any part did. The special's story hasn't been itself been spoiled outside of these couple of pages and what other character appearances we've been told about. It might be too hopeful to think so but I'm curious to see if DC's setting up some serious consequences for the return of the multiverse proper at the end of Convergence. Besides the possibility of folk from the Watchmen-verse arriving around the same time as the Wally West that shows up in the special, we also have the mystery (unless it's been explained already) of Clark's powers slipping to others as well as Diana discovering her past isn't what she thought it was.

I can't help wondering if maybe some 'reverse Incursion' story is starting up which will lead to becoming the focus of the next Crisis. The original Crisis was wiped out and as the saying goes, 'nature abhors a vacuum'.

EDIT: Probably due to the leak, Newsarama has a review of the special up at their site. A few more spoilers (written, not visual) are in the review.

Newsarama decided to continue it's 'well, screw it' attitude over the Rebirth leak by posting a preview for it. Judging by the page-numbers, the pages were grabbed from different points in the special. It's still pretty spoilerific so if you've avoided the leak spoilers so far or don't want to see any more until it's officially out, don't peek in the box.

Sounds like this really is pre-FP Wally with the costume being a result of the timeline trying to overwrite what he was with what he would be in the N52.

I have to admire the gall of framing the New 52 as an attempt to overwrite the existing DCU by some sinister force

Is it the dark lords Didion and Harrasor?

    by the sounds of it,
Dr. Manhattan is the creator of the DCU and kills Pandora for messing with his creation in Flashpoint? and the crux of the book is that it's laying the blame for the ultra grim and gritty turn that the DCU has taken directly at the feet of Manhattan, in a sort of metacommentary of the real world scenario of DC's direction having been so heavily influenced by Watchmen

which is an interesting idea but a little disingenuous when the man writing the story is one of the biggest offenders of pushing that particular trope

I agree with you on it both being disingenuous but also pretty interesting.

I do think Johns isn't quite as grim and gritty as he gets a rap for. Like, he's had more than his fair share of moments but at the end of the day, unlike your Scott Lobdells or Tony Daniels he is a dude who legitimately loves DC and it's characters and wants to bring that to his work. He doesn't always succeed but I definitely feel a lot more positively towards him than any other DC Executive.

And Newsarama keeps hitting the 'screw spoilers' button, this time by presenting a list of '10 Things About DC: UNIVERSE: REBIRTH You May or May Not Want to Know Before Wednesday'. I'll put what looks to be not yet leaked or at least not shown in photos/scans of the book in the box below. Again, don't look if you don't want some spoilers (or possibly a headache).
    1. Doctor Fate appears before either Jaime Reyes or Ted Kord or both and informs one or both that the Scarab really IS magic and not alien tech.
    2. Ray Palmer's gone missing and Ryan Choi finds a video message from him asking Ryan to go into the Microverse to find him, the message cutting off before it shows someone or something else at the same place Ray's at.
    3. Grail from the recent Darkseid War story discovers that Diana has a twin brother named Jason.
    4. A woman talking to the police claims to have seen the future and it'll be alright, showing a Legion flight-ring in her hand.
    5. The Justice Society hint comes from a shot of (presumably) the original Johnny Thunder in a psych ward, appearing mentally unstable and fighting with orderlies while trying to summon the Thunderbolt.
    6. Besides Batman finding the smiley pin from Watchmen, the mini-series' new tie-in to the DCU occurs when Pandora's killed in a similar fashion to Rorschach while the special ends with Dr. Manhattan's watch coming together on Mars while a line from the mini-series is dropped: Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends.

The more I think about it

The more I actually super love the narrative of
Wally West as the face of the real DC Universe ushering in the revelation that the arbiter of DC's grimmest and darkest bullshit ever is Doctor Manhattan.

Like obviously the real persons responsible for it are still in power in the real world so who knows if it will shake out at all

But the story of Wally and the old, fun, heroic DCU realizing they've been tricked and corrupted by the comic that started the whole downward spiral of grim nonsense is pretty dang entertaining to me

    Not necessarily

Manhattan left Watchmen knowing humanity is inherently flawed and that Adrian's plan, while effective in the short term, will fall apart.

He actually leaves Earth looking to make life of his own.

He is, at best, an impassionate experimental God. He could have made WatchmenEarth better if he wanted to, but he didn't really care because humans are so beneath him.

So if he made a new universe where things worked out like his old one I don't imagine he would be too upset.

    not necessarily
Manhattan as a character wasn't interested in "improving" things. he wouldn't even have helped Laurie stop Ozymandias had he not figured out her parentage and been fascinated by the implications of it

Manhattan was a curious being more than a benevolent one, especially by the end of the series, which is when he specifically says he's gonna try to create his own life

He does! And good Lord would I love that.

Or if Rorschach just gets immediately dismissed as a total psycho and sent to a mental health facility for proper treatment.

IGN's jumping on the spoiler-train, releasing what looks to be more or less a write-up on the special's story. Not much new though one thing's cleared up in relation to a pair of characters.
Pre-FP Wally sees N52 Wally and apparently realizes that they're distant cousins. The write-up doesn't make it clear if this is a pre-FP retcon or if it's meant to be the N52's rewrite-effect on Pre-FP Wally's memories starting to kick in.

You know what? Yeah, sure, this is where they might as well go. This is basically what the last 30 years have lead up to. DC has spent that time years learning the wrong lessons from Watchman, driving the tone of their books increasingly more grimdark. Might as well miss the point entirely and make them part of the DC universe.

    Well

Turns out Watchmen is explicitly why the DCU got so dark

Wally says that Manhattan is responsible for ripping 10 years away from the DCU, which means that even before the New 52 (which was 5 years I believe) he was messing with reality which would explain as far back as Infinite Crisis.
